The Sunflower Mystery - A Short Story That Ambria Wrote For Class Last Year
THE SUNFLOWER MYSTERY
The boy shifted nervously and looked at the police officer.
"Well, the reason why I'm actually here....."
"Of course they wouldn't believe what I say," thought a boy named Kevin.
After what he had seen, he couldn't really explain what had happened. It all had happened so fast that he couldn't really register it. Moreover, tell the police what had happened. All he could remember was that the police came over after he called 911. And they were looking for clues as to who had killed his dad and his baby sister. Then they were all over him like dogs with a piece of mutton. They asked the questions. They had asked Kevin if he had killed his family.
After all, the knife that killed his baby sister was used for chopping vegetables. That knife, the pretty knife with big sunflowers that his mother had bought for cooking had killed his sister.
"WELL!" barked Mr. Shepard, one of the police officers.
"I didn't kill them! I promise!" Kevin replied, glancing at Mr. Shepard with an innocent expression.
Mr. Shepard didn't seem to believe that. "DO YOU THINK WE ARE FOOLS?" he roared back.
Kevin did not flinch.
"Okay," Kevin fidgeted with the hem of his shirt. "That may not sound convincing, but I am an A+ student and I love my parents and my baby sister."
Mr. Shepard snorted. And it was very hard for Kevin to not punch him.
"Look at how much time I spent with my sister and my Dad!" Kevin said, showing him some pictures of his little sister and his dad at a picnic. "And if you still don't believe this, ask my mother!"
His mother was lucky to be alive. She was currently being interrogated in the next room. Kevin could barely resist the urge to run out of this room and join his mother so he could give her a big hug. A large one.
But he resisted it just as he resisted the urge to cry.
"LIARS!" another police officer roared.
Mr. Shepard turned to the police officer and yelled, "I WILL DO THE TALKING!"
Then he turned back to Kevin.
"ADMIT IT OR YOUR UNDER ARREST!"
Kevin glared at him. "You can't arrest someone without proof!" he shouted.
It was the last straw now. He should be feeling sorry for himself and his mother instead of acting like a fool. But then again some fools just can't stop themselves.
"Fine, you want evidence?" Kevin gritted his teeth, "just tell your beagle to sniff the knife! If the dog sniffs the knife, he'll track down the person who killed them!"
"That's a good idea," whispered another officer.
Mr. Shepard slapped him and told him to do what the boy said. The room was locked and when the beagle sniffed the knife, it started to go to the door.
"HA!" Kevin shouted.
"This is a trick I tell you!" Mr. Shepard shouted when the police officers inside the room started to whisper.
"You can go NOW!" he shouted to Kevin.
As Kevin went to the main room of the police office. When he entered the room, he immediately saw his mother.
"Have they checked the security footage yet?" Kevin asked, after hugging his mom.
His mom shook her head.
"They are checking it now."
Just at that moment, a police officer came up to them and said, "Most of the footage is blocked but it seems as though the baby girl killed herself by playing with the knife.
"What?" Kevin gasped, holding his mother tight to stop her from collapsing. He himself had gone pale too.
"It's true. Your dad came in to check on her and saw her dead ..."
"He died from shock Trauma, specifically." Kevin muttered.
"But who could have given her the knife? She can't even walk yet!" his mother wondered aloud.
"Exactly. Someone must have given it to her." Kevin said.
