The day after our Anniversary
"So team, there's no new case for today. So,..", Sameer was saying but was immediately interrupted by the excited voice of Shree.
"So, day off ?".
Everyone looked surprised at his comment.
"Day off! It has been only 30mins since the day begun and you want a day off! Not to mention that you just returned after your 2 week vacation.", Arjun commented dryly.
Shree sulked at this comment while others tried to control their outcoming smirks.
"May be he has some plans or may be he promised someone. Not everyone will be interested in missing their important days and important ocassions.", it was Sakshi who gave a mocking reply to Arjun, not trying to hide the dripping sarcasm even a bit.
Arjun shot a death glare to Sakshi in response and now everyone's attention shifted towards these both.
They all let out a silent sigh, clearly knowing the reason for that staring contest between the wife and husband.
It was Sameer, who finally tried to break the building tension in the room.
"Ok guys! Enough! There's no day off( eyeing Shree seriously). There are many paper works in pending. Finish them. If there's any problem, I will be in my cabin, come to me.", everyone nodded in response and Sameer got up to leave.
"Fine!", saying so Sakshi also got up taking her bag and other stuff.
"Where are you going?", Arjun asked, seeing her pack her stuff.
"It's not just you who has work, always enough to skip the important events. There are some people who also expect me to work.", Sakshi spoke angrily and stormed out of the room shortly followed by Arjun who headed towards his cabin.
.........................................................................................
She drove past the other vehicles on the road. Though her eyes were fixed on the road and hands over the steering, her mind is still wandering over yesterday's issue.
Sakshi's POV
"Did I just over react in the office? May be I should have remained silent instead!...
But still, there's no wrong in what I have said. No one would really dare to skip their Marriage day ocassion, except Arjun. I had many dreams about yesterday. But what had happened? Firstly, he ran to office in the morning, didn't atleast come home for lunch and also skipped the dinner, of which he had promised. Okay, he has come home, but at what time? Our marriage day would have been ended if it was an hour later.
I don't know what is his problem, whenever I talk of making some moment special or memorable, he becomes lame, as if I am asking to wash his car on an early Sunday morning. I know he becomes tired at the end of the day, but all I ask is for one single day in the whole year. He never gets that.
He still treats me the same way he used to before our marriage.
But it's not that he's not loving or affectionate. He loves me a lot. I can sense it through his eyes. But when it comes to expressing it, he turns cold.".
By then she parked her car and entered the mart.
Of course, she has gone to her channel but her manager's gone out of station and would only return in the evening.
She could go back to ETF office if she wants, but at that point she clearly wasn't ready for another slot of bickering. So she dropped that idea and reached the mart to buy some groceries.
POV continues,
"Many times I adjust and convince myself saying that being an ACP this attitude is his second skin, but seriously thinking, do all men in such professions be like that?( She took a Monaco medium pack and kept in the cart. But still, that small lucid pout didn't leave her face.)
Why think of someone else, consider Dular. He works for the Army, but still how happy he keeps Anu!
They were married 3 months later to our marriage. That too without the consent of their families. But still, I never heard her complain, even once till now. That smile and that joy never leaves her face, even though he is miles away since 4 months of their marriage.
Not that I am not happy in my marriage. I am very very happy.
But yesterday his attitude hurt me. Very much. When and how will I become normal, I don't know."
End of POV.
.....................................................................................
He sat staring at the file on his desk. His eyelids were not blinking. He was hardly noticing the file contents. His mind neither concentrated on the file nor on the fipping pen in his hand. It still stood at yesterday's events.
Arjun's POV
"Arghh! Sakshi is angry with me once again. I really don't know how I should convince her. Pchhh! I am always trapped when such important days come. Though there wouldn't be much formalities in our celebrations, I don't know why, I never get interest for such dinners and all. Also, what does she feel, is it okay when your partner gives all the love on that one day and tortures you for the rest of the year?
Okay, she is upset. I get that. But why should she have to burst in front of everyone? She's always ready to make me a laughing stock in front of everyone.
And whatever I say, I do, she straightly goes into comparing it with that Dular. Dular did that, did this. Dular threw a party last night. These many people came to their house that night and every blah else. Phew! I am fed up with this man. Now that he comes home once in a blue moon, he should obviously do all that show off.
But me? I always stay in that our very own cubhole!
And moreover, if I ever speak of a transfer by mistake, she creates a havoc.
And why should she always take their example? She can also look up to Sam and Ayesha. Even they get a lot of problems in their lives. I know many instances when Sam couldn't fulfil his promises to Ayesha. But I never heard Ayesha complain about him. Not that Sakshi doesn't understand me, but at times she becomes really tough to handle. Now what should I do?"
End of POV.
..............................................................................................
Sakshi's POV
"Arghh! How many more stairs should I climb! This apartment will defnitely kill me someday. Shh!!!
(She complained as she was climbing the stairs with two heavy grocery bags in her hands. She was panting. Her face turned red and sweat droplets trickled down.)
How many times I had told that secretary about the lift! Still no use. This time I will have to send Arjun.
(Thinking so she crossed two more floors and at some point she couldn't do it anymore. So she placed the bags down and stood there trying to get some air.
As she stood there, her eyes fell on the nameplate of the nearby flat.)
"Anamika and Dular's"
(A mischievious glint appeared in her eyes as she read that. These days observing them both, especially Anu became a hobby for her. So she immediately took her bags and reached their flat and knocked the door. No response came for sometime.)
Why is no one answering the door? May be no one's at home.
(But meanwhile,)
"Who's that?"
That's Anu's voice, so she is at home.
"Er.., Anu! This is me, Sakshi.", I said.
The door opened in next few seconds and Anu appeared.
"Hi, Sakshi. Whats up?", Anu said giving her a friendly smile.
I told you right, joyful and happy. Lucky she!
"H..Hi, Anu.", I said and she smiled in response.
She is still standing at the door and smiling. Even I complied. But still the smile didn't go. Neither did she let me in. Okay, now this is being awkward! Should I leave?
"Er.., actually I was returning from my office and stopped over to get some groceries. And then these stairs, Phew! Meanwhile I thought I would meet you. It has been a while, so..., okay I think I will leave now.", I said and turned to leave.
"Er.., what? Wait! Sakshi!", I heard her call. I turned back.
"What has come into me today? You were standing here so long and I didn't even call you inside. I am so sorry. Come in.", Anu said embarrsingly giving way in.
But I still think she is busy. May be I should go.
"Ah! It's okay, Anu. I will come some other time.", I said but she didn't listen. She immediately dragged me inside saying that she is also bored.
Okay, Sakshi. This should be for you. Can't you just mind your way? Arjun's right. I should reduce this act of poking my nose into other's business.
So I finally entered inside but not before smacking myself mentally.
"So, what will you like to have?", she asked as I settled on the sofa.
"No! It's completely alright! I just came to say a 'Hi'.", I said not trying to make the situation more awkward.
"Okay! That's fine. You can do that by having some coffee also.", saying so she went into the kitchen.
Phew! Sakshi! Control yourself. Stay strong. She's not gonna eat you.
Slowly I began comforting myself. I started observing my surroundings. Meanwhile, my phone began ringing and unexpectedly it is from Arjun! What the hell! A call from Arjun, that too during work hours. I hope Mumbai's fine.
But I am now in no mood to answer his call. I cut it.
Anu is still in the kitchen.
By the way, Why did I come here? Now that I have come what should I speak to her?
And once again a call from Arjun. Hush!!! He's not going to spare me.
"Hello, Sakshi!", he said as I lifted my phone. Once again yesterday's anger took over me. So I decided to remain silent.
"Hello! Hello! Hello Sakshi, are you there?", he continued but I decided to stay shut. By the way, it's very difficult for me.
"Sakshi, now enough of your drama. You were toh full of taunts and mocks today morning, now why are you silent?", he said frustated.
Drama! Now this is too much. I must speak up now.
"I didn't run short of them now either, do you want to listen?", I said trying to keep my voice as low as possible.
"Why are you whispering? Where are you?", he asked.
Huff! He noticed.
"Why does that bother you?", I asked coldly, trying to raise my voice a bit.
"Cause I am afraid, if you are upto some stupid act.", Arjun stated.
"I am not stupid. You are stupid. Stupid enough to miss your marriage day ocassion.", I said venting out my anger.
How dare he call me stupid!
"Not again Sakshi. It's just one marriage day Sakshi.", he said in an exhausted tone.
"Marriage days are meant to come once a year Arjun and you are the only person in this world who dared to skip it.", I stated back, in between checking if I am being heard by Anu.
"Arghh! I can't explain you. Okay, first tell me this, where the hell are you?", he asked.
"At Anu's place.", I said.
"What?? Are you crazy? What are you doing there? There should be some limit. Is this your that important work?", he asked angrily.
"You don't get to decide that Arjun. I can come and go where ever I want, whenever I want. By the way, how come you got freedom from your work? Go, carry on with your work. The city's saviour afterall!", I said in order to irritate him.
"Oh Yeah, the queen afterall. You keep going to everywhere you want. I will also take a transfer and go away somewhere far and will visit you some once for a year or two years.", he said trying to blackmail me.
Haha! Very funny Arjun! I am defnitely not one who will be dancing at your wishes.
"Well, good for you Mr.Arjun! You better get a transfer for yourself. Atleast then I will be at peace. By the way, I can help you if you want me to put a word with Sameer.", I said in a 'as if I care' tone.
"Go to hell, Ms.Sakshi", he said and cut the call
I couldn't help but smirk at this plight of Arjun. I feel him so cute when he tries to convince me when I am angry.
But, is he really going to take a transfer?
Eww! This thought scares me.
Did I just blabber a lot?
Phew! There's no mistake of mine. If there's someone at fault, it's only him. He deserves this.
