Chapter 50 - The Counselor's Office

Gabriel had just stepped outside of Playhouse when the company phone in his pocket started ringing off the hook. Picking it up, the middle aged man answered, "Hey Ollie, long time no see. How's it going?"

"Are you okay? No ouchies or anything?" Ollie asked, concern evident in his voice. Walking towards the statue in the middle of Playcare, Gabriel replied, "Eh, no new ones if that's what you mean. My leg still hurts and my hands are pretty sore." That part was true. His leg would not stop screaming in pain after that risky jump he made and the palms of his hands felt itchy. Resisting the urge to scratch at them, he murmured, "Sorry I couldn't get power from the school."

"That's okay, we have other buildings. But hey! Did you see the shrine?" Ollie quipped. Gabriel shuddered when he remembered that. "Sure did. Catnap made that for the Prototype, correct?" the man replied. Ollie answered a moment later, "He did! Catnap is so weird, he truly thinks that the Prototype is some kind of superhero just because he saved his life one time." Gabriel listened to the little boy ramble on. He had already heard the story from Mommy but he couldn't give away the idea that he knew. Waiting for Ollie to finish talking, the middle aged man asked, "Where are you sending me next?"

"Well, the counselor's office building is the only building left with a generator and a power chord to connect," Ollie responded. He sounded a little nervous. But nevertheless, a key was shot down the pipe. Snatching it, Gabriel left the room under the statue. "Will it provide enough power for the Gas Production Zone?" he questioned. Ollie replied immediately, "It will be plenty. But heed my warning, it's gonna be dangerous. The counselor's office is another one of Catnap's hunting grounds. Be careful, okay?"

"I will Ollie, take care now," Gabriel replied. Tucking the phone away back in his pocket, he approached the door to the counselor's office building and unlocked it. Entering, he walked through the lobby and turned right into the hallway. Noticing a familiar red gas up ahead, he whipped out the gas mask and put it on. Safe from the Red Smoke now, he approached the door at the end of the hallway and tried to open it. It was locked. Peering through the window next to the door, Gabriel saw that the room was full of Red Smoke. A small Bunzo Bunny toy stumbled around coughing before collapsing. A split second later, something huge and purple darted by, grabbing the poor toy while it passed.

Catnap.

Backing away from the door, Gabriel could feel his heart racing. He was in some serious danger now. Noticing the vent down near the floor, he popped the cover off and climbed inside. Catnap would never be able to reach him while he was in here. Crawling on his hands and knees, the middle aged man eventually reached a point where he could no longer continue his travels in the ventilation shaft. There was nowhere else for him to go but out. And so he got out of the vents.

Gabriel was in a counselor's office space. It was in utter mess with papers and office supplies scattered about. Stepping over a fallen filing cabinet, the middle aged man opened the door and entered the hallway. The whole place was a mess. It was like a tornado had passed through or something. But the thing that caught Gabriel's attention was the writing on the walls. With how dark red it was, he assumed it was written in blood. There was a lot of writing too, mostly just repeated sayings such as 'rejoice in him' and 'I serve our angel of salvation', stuff like that. But there was only one that sent shivers down his spine.

'The Hour of Joy'

"The Hour of Joy? What the heck is that?" Gabriel wondered. He stepped up to the wall, running his hand across the writing. Based on everything he had seen so far, he knew Catnap was the one who wrote all of these. Probably as a part of his religious worship to the Prototype. But what did any of it really mean? And again, what was the Hour of Joy? Confused by all of this information he was trying to process in his head, Gabriel turned around to come face to face with Catnap.

There was no time to react. Slapping the human across the face, Catnap knocked the gas mask off of Gabriel and shoved him back into the office he had come out of. Quickly filling up the small room with the Red Smoke, the purple cat slammed the door shut. Coughing uncontrollably, Gabriel tried to get the door open. However, the gas was too much and he crumbled to the floor, fading into the black beyond...
