Chapter 39 - Stalked By Shadows
"God dang it, where is that generator?" Gabriel grumbled under his breath as he turned right down yet another hallway. It felt like he had been searching for an eternity. He wasn't even sure what part of the school he was in anymore. He swore to God it wasn't that big on the outside. Why were schools built to be a maze?
"Maybe Ollie will be able to help here..." Gabriel murmured. Pulling the company phone out of his bag, he suddenly realized that he didn't know the number to call Ollie. Desperate, the middle aged man dialed a random combination of numbers. Surprise surprise, nothing but static came through from the other side.
Dropping the phone back into his bag, Gabriel clutched his head in between his hands. "Okay, come on Gabriel. Think," he whispered to himself, "If you designed a schoolhouse, where would you put the generator?" His first thought was the basement but he quickly dismissed that. He didn't think the school had a basement. The next best place would be somewhere in the back of the building. That's where it had to be. Now he just needed to find his way there.
"Well, here goes nothing," Gabriel murmured as he lightly jogged down the hall. He took a left there and continued down yet another hallway. Seriously, how big was this school?! Passing by the lockers, Gabriel hated how the posters on the walls made him feel like he was being watched constantly. He could feel eyes burning into the back of his skull-
A small noise made Gabriel halt in his tracks. Whirling around, he saw nothing but flickering lights. But he could feel someone or something watching him from the shadows. Backing away slowly, the man rounded another corner and found himself in another hallway. He needed to get out of here, fast. He started running again.
"Students!" a crisp feminine voice crackled over the PA system, "No running in the halls!"
