E x M #10 (Cookie Dough)
NEVADA: Hey girl! Anyway the four of us could hang out tonight?
ELAINE: I'm down. Tinus says he can come too.
NEVADA: Sweet! Could u make sure Marcus is good as well?
ELAINE: Sure we can watch a movie if u want to
NEVADA: That'd be great!
Elaine shifted the phone in her hands and drew her knees up to her chest. She stared silently at the screen before she asked, "Why do you think Nev wants to hang out tonight?"
"Maybe she just wants to be with her friends," Martinus suggested, not moving his eyes from the television.
"I have a feeling it's more than that," she said.
"Maybe she wants to hang out with this amazing being," Marcus joked, stepping out of the kitchen just to motion to himself.
"Actually, Mac, that's probably partly true," Elaine said. "You know what, nevermind. It doesn't matter."
She turned back to her cell phone.
"This is a great chance to finish those cookies you've been meaning to make," Martinus commented, still watching the news on the tv.
ELAINE: So is there a reason you wanna come over or do u just wanna hang out?
NEVADA: I'm bored and lonely
ELAINE: . . .And you wanna see Marcus
NEVADA: And you and Tinus
ELAINE: And Marcus
NEVADA: Sure okay fine. I wanna see Marcus. GTG see you tonite.
ELAINE: Kk. Six o'clock sound good?
NEVADA: Yup. Can I bring Shasta?
ELAINE: Sure
NEVADA: Great. Tis a date.

"Honey, I'm hooooooome!" Nevada called out jokingly.
Elaine smiled and shook her head.
"I'm in the kitchen, Nev!" Elaine called back. "I'm trying to make cookies, and my hands are kind of covered in dough."
Nevada leaned down and unleashed her dog, then turned and went straight to the kitchen. She saw Elaine mixing the dough and chocolate chips together with her bare hands.
"Oh! Cookie dough!" Nevada smiled, going to Elaine's side.
She reached down and took a fingerful of dough while Elaine was glancing at the recipe.
"Nevada!" Elaine growled, nudging her friend with her shoulder.
Nevada giggled and retreated to the bar. She hoisted herself up to sit on the counter as she enjoyed the tiny bit of dough.
"Where are the boys?" Nevada asked.
"They went to grab some milk to go with the cookies. They should be back soon."
"Okay," Nevada replied, hopping off the counter and going back to the living room. "Can I pick out a movie on Netflix to watch?"
"Go for it,"
When the twins came into the house a few minutes later, Nevada was already watching something on the television, snuggled up with Shasta. Martinus took the milk to the kitchen and Marcus headed straight for the dog.
"Hey, Marcus," Nevada greeted, watching as he kneeled on the floor to get level with Shasta's face. He gently patted the dog's head and smiled.
"Hey, Nevada," he said after he was finished greeting the dog.
"You look nice today," she told him with a small smile.
He didn't get the chance to reply, because right then they heard Elaine call out, "Martinus! You're just like Nevada, get outta my cookie dough!"
Nevada laughed and watched as Martinus slunk into the living room, licking his fingers.
"Let's watch a movie and then we can eat her cookies, 'kay Tinus?" Nevada suggested.
He nodded and sunk onto the couch, a grin still on his lips. However, it didn't take long for the three of them to get restless from watching the movie they'd already seen many times before. Finally, Nevada leaned over to Martinus and said, "You need to go in there and make your girlfriend hurry up or steal the cookie dough from her because I've been waiting too long."
Martinus laughed, "You want me to steal it?"
"Yes!" Marcus and Nevada said in unison.
Martinus smiled at them.
"How?"
"It's really simple," Marcus replied. "All you have to do is distract her, and while she's busy with you, I can steal the whole bowl."
Nevada giggled at the thought.
"How am I supposed to distract her?" Martinus asked.
"I have faith that you'll think of something," Nevada 'assured' him.
Martinus gave her a look before he slowly stood up and made his way to the kitchen, Marcus following close behind.
The twins entered the kitchen, Marcus stitting at the bar and Martinus slowly sauntering up to Elaine. Martinus hugged her from behind and felt her tense up.
"Tinus, you better keep your hands off this bowl of you want to live." Elaine immediately told him, pulling the bowl of dough closer to her.
"You think I wandered into this room just to steal your cookie dough?"
"Yes,"
"Unbelievable," he said, shaking his head.
Elaine continued to mold the dough into little balls and place them on a baking sheet while Martinus stood behind her and Marcus burried his nose in his phone. Marcus was actually just pretending, as he was really waiting to grab the bowl.
"Imma change this boring movie and watch the Pentatonix documentary instead!" Nevada called from the living room.
"Nevada, you picked the first movie!" Marcus argued. "And you've seen the documentary already!"
"So?" She asked. "I'm the only one watching it anyway!"
"Nevada!" Marcus called. "Don't you dare, it's my turn to pick!"
"Too bad, you're not here so you forfeit!" She replied.
Marcus lept out of his chair and dashed for the living room.
"Marcus!" Martinus scolded, knowing his efforts were going to fail with no one to grab the bowl.
"I'll be back!" Marcus told his brother.
Martinus rolled his eyes.
"Those two are the oldest, but I swear they act like children!" Elaine giggled.
The oven dinged.
"Could you get that batch out for me?" Elaine asked.
Martinus sighed and reluctantly stepped away from her and grabbed a potholder. The two of them could hear Nevada's protests as Marcus rook the remote from her and changed the television.
"You better give that remote back to me before I wreck your career!" Nevada cried.
Her statment was followed by a lot of foul words too horrible to repeat in this PG book.
"I can't believe she cares so much about the remote." Martinus shook his head, placing the tray of cookies on the stove top.
"She doesn't," Elaine replied. "She gets that way around people she really likes."
"Angry?"
"Playfully angry,"
They heard Nevada spew out more swear words.
"That doesn't sound playful to me," Martinus said, going back to stand by Elaine.
"You're forgetting that she was watching Pentatonix." Elaine replied.
The next thing they saw was Nevada emerging from the living room with a dark look in her eyes. Elaine glanced at her.
"Why didn't you just tackle him?" Elaine laughed.
"He's like, way bigger than me!" Nevada exclaimed.
"Some how, I don't think you would've minded."
"Shut up," Nevada spat, taking a seat at the bar.
Elaine fought to contain her laugh as she turned away to check on the fresh baked cookies. Martinus exchanged a glance with Nevada, trying to remind her of the cookie dough. Something lit up on her face when she remembered the plan.
Elaine went back to the bowl and stirred in a few more chocolate chips with her spoon. Martinus took a deep breath to hide his amusement.
"I think the last cookies might have burned," Martinus said, watching Elaine's confused face.
She turned, the mixing spoon still in her hand, and glanced at the batch sitting on the stove top. All the sudden, Nevada snatched the bowl of dough with lightening speed and darted into the living room. Elaine gasped when she realized what had happened.
"You little rascal!" She exclaimed, gaping at Martinus. "How could you betray me?"
But Martinus was doubled over with laughter, and could barely hear what she was saying.
"Victory!" Nevada exclaimed from the living room.
Elaine growled, a grin crossing her lips.
"Laugh at this, Martinus!" Elaine called suddenly, when he had almost regained his breath.
She took the leftover dough on her mixing spoon and shoved it into his face.
