CHAPTER 1
————————————————————————

This is it, a new beginning - a new chapter in my life on which will shape my entire future. A new chapter that I can shape into my own without having the bullies drag me down and make me feel insignificant like a little sweet that will just be swallowed and forgotten straight away. I will not be that sweet ever again. I am going to become a woman in this town. I am going to become unstoppable....

"Macey, Macey, MACEY!" shouted Macey's older sister Brianna as she waved her hands in front of the younger Adam's eyes, awakening her from her daydream. The clear displeasure on Macey's face would make anyone feel regretful as she shook her head and put her ear buds in before pressing play on her IPod. Brianna sighed as she quickly retracted her hands into her cardigan pockets, clear concern imminent on her face.

Brianna was like any ordinary teen. Her olive skinned face was arched like a heart, her makeup strong and very noticeable but in a good way, her omnipresent eye colour shone brightly whenever a light shone upon it and her hair was as brown as the leaves in autumn.... She was as beautiful as an orchard. Her clothing was always with the time, never out of style but never to far into the future style. At this moment in time, she was wearing a grey sun-kissed tank top with dark blue skinny jeans and a brownish grey cardigan that hung and dropped until it reached her knee caps. On her feet there was these black and white isometric flats that wasn't supposed to fit with the outfit but yet it did. And that's all because of Brianna.

Macey however wasn't like her sister. Instead she had a straight and narrow face, her brownish red hair looked greasy and uncared for, her face was bare and spotty - her freckles covering her cheeks weren't even remotely cute anymore and her lips were chapped and uncared for like her hair in many ways -, her pale dull eyes had no light nor happiness unlike her sister..... She could be a zombie if she wanted to. Her fashion sense was dreadful, she always wore the same drab clothes that no one had thought to be appealing or even cool unless her sister picked her clothes. And at this moment in time, she was wearing a white tank top with a blue laced crop top that hung loosely - curtesy of Macey messing it up - and black leggings. On her feet were black mini boots that didn't fit Brianna anymore.

The two Adams girls were completely different to each other and were never talked about in the same conversation unless Brianna forced them to. Macey was the outsider while Brianna was the person that could join any clique she wants.

"Sooooo, you excited to move to Merton Cove girls." their mother, Mataya Adams, said casually as she turned her body to face the two teenagers. Mataya was very much like Brianna. Her heart shaped face was one of her proudest features as it literally embodied love. Maybe that's why their father, Wilson, got with Mataya. Who knows? Anyway, her dull blue and simple makeup complimented her face shape like there was nothing else in the world - like Mataya's face shape was a goddess. Her blood orange hair hung tightly around her face, hiding any imperfections that Mataya may have. Mataya's outfit was simple, she was wearing a loose sweatshirt with light blue jeans and mini pumps.

Brianna nodded excitedly while Macey just shrugged; her mind completely out of the car as she stared outside to see the sun reach it's apex in the bright blue sky. For Macey, this could be a new beginning for her but doubt shrouded her mind. What if it was like my old school? What if I don't fit in? What if I get murdered? So many questions - some irrational then others - travelled around her brain in constant hyper-speed; never stopping to take a break from travelling.

"Yeah, it's not like it's going to be any different then the last place we were at. What was it again..... Treble Isles or something. I knew the name spelt trouble and guess what, it did. I got bullied, yet again." Macey whispered sarcastically as she finally stepped back into the car, metaphorically speaking. Mataya sighed as she stared at her little baby who has been beaten and bruised one two many times.

"This place is going to be different though Macey. I promise you that Merton Cove isn't the same as Treble Isles." Mataya said as she grabbed her daughters hands and began to stroke them softly. "Anyway, blame your father for dragging us to Treble Isles."

This made the car erupt into a cloud of laughter. This laughter was filled with joy and happiness and for the first time in a while, Macey felt happy. So happy, in fact, that she could jump up and land the moon then jump back down to her car before repeating the process all over again. Wilson laughed as he playfully slapped his wife's hand before returning to driving; he didn't want to become a bad influence on his two daughters but he also didn't want to be pulled over by the police. "Don't listen to your mother. Blame my job."

Macey suddenly stopped laughing as she remembers that they were only there cause of her father's job as the Ambassador of the USA. And since he is the Ambassador of the USA, the Adams have to move a lot to keep up with Wilson's busy schedule but now since he is close to retirement (as he likes to call it), he is finally deciding that they should move to England which is where they have been for the past few days.

"Yeah, like we could forget father but thankfully you are 'retiring' so you can't use that excuse anymore." Brianna laughed before stopping once she noticed her sisters glum face. "Cheer up shortcake, everything will be better."

Macey smiled at her nickname, shortcake.

There is a big backstory to this nickname that Macey could never forget. How could she when it was one of her best memories from when she was younger and more free to be herself. Well, her four year old self. It all started when Macey was four and Brianna was five......

"Mama, can we make a strawberry shortcake please." little
Macey shouted as she ran to her mother; wobbling every so often making Mataya laugh a little.

Macey's outfit was a typical girly outfit; simple laced panel swing top and candy couture utility denim shorts. On her feet were these cute white plimsolls that was newly bought but already had mud on them which made Mataya once again laugh but this time, shaking her head. Her hair was put into a simple braid the fell onto her shoulder blade like Elsa from the film Frozen.

"Wait for me Macey!" little Brianna shouted as she ran after her sister, wobbling with every step. Brianna hated being alone when playing, you could say that was her big sister side kicking in or something but to Brianna, it was her selfishness.

Brianna was also wearing a typical girly outfit; blue and pink flowered frill play-suit with white tights that hugged her skin but was too tight to take off. She was also wearing plimsolls but hers were black so getting them dirty was alright as they were easily washable. Her hair was put into two big bunches that fell down her back creating little pig-tails which jumped whenever she took a step forward or backwards.

Soon Brianna caught up to her little sister - who slowed down after running at full speed - and they ran together to their parents. Mataya and Wilson looked at each other; love and passion clear on their faces. There girls were growing up so fast; the more they grew, the closer they got together. But for Mataya, she knew that the girls would separate one day; Macey was much different to Brianna - who was never able to fully be alone - which was already foreshadowing the younger Adams' girl. Macey was becoming more independent then ever before and was able to keep herself occupied even when she was alone with no one to play with her.

"Sure sugarplums." Wilson whispered as he grabbed Brianna and lift her up. Mataya did the same with Macey but for some odd reason, Macey didn't giggle. Instead she had a face of stone - no emotion shown at all - which frightened the female Adams.

"Wilson, she isn't smiling. What should I do?" Mataya rambled as she glanced up to her husband who just stared at his daughter. She wasn't the same as Brianna; she was different then anything they had ever seen since becoming parents. Suddenly, a lightbulb clicked inside the male's head.

"I have an idea, why don't we just make the cake."

This made the once stone cold face of Macey become full of life and happiness once again. Mataya sighed as she quickly rushed into the house with her little baby in her arms. She then quickly plopped Macey down to the ground before rushing to her apron. Mataya quickly put it on before passing Macey her own which made the younger Adams giggle.

They then began to bake, they baked and baked multiples of shortcakes on which Macey ate without hesitation. The sweetness of the cakes and shortness of the shape fitted Macey perfectly.

That was how Macey was nicknamed Shortcake; it was because she ate shortcakes without unprecedented fear of becoming fat nor unhealthy. Now every time the Adam's family decide to have a baking day, they always created shortcakes specially made for Macey.

"Mother, can we not talk about Father's job for just a couple of hours -" Macey whispered as she glanced at her mother. "I.... I want.... You know.... Just some time where we don't worry about jobs; where we just talk about our new home.... Like a family." She murmured, twiddling her fingers together.

Mataya and Wilson glanced at each other, not knowing what to really say to their little girl other then that it will soon be all over. "I'm..... I'm sorry sweetie..... We didn't mean to bring it up." Wilson whispered as he stroked his daughters knees before putting his hand back in the steering wheel.

The rest of the journey was in silence; there was only a few short lived conversations that only lasted for a few minutes. For Macey, it was a time to think - a time where she can think about what this new place was going to be like. Will it be like Treble Isles? Will I meet new people and become friends with them? All these question rang through her brain like a clock ticking it's was to the end.

After twenty minutes of thinking, Macey began to feel her eyes droop and soon fell asleep and the most uncomfortable position possible.

————————————————————————

"Mace, we're here." Brianna whispered as Macey opened her eyes; wiping them as she arose from her uncomfortable slouched position.

Indeed they had arrived at there new home. It was a spacious three bedroom detached terrace with old brick work and nineteenth century period features that hugged the building like it had nothing else to hold onto. An old picket fence was placed against one of the walls with bushes and plants climbing up it. The building was a beauty in Macey's eyes compared to what she had imagined before; it was a place that she could proudly say home.

"Look whose finally awake." Wilson laughed as he walked over to his little girl and ruffled her hair through the car window. Macey scoffed and moved her dad's hand away from her hair making the Adams family laugh.

"Do you want to come inside?" Mataya questioned as she opened the door for her daughter who quickly got put the car, nodding ferociously.

"Well welcome home girls." Wilson said before quickly jogging to the bonnet to grab some more bags.

    She was indeed home.

Here is my brand new chapter for my brand new story. I enjoyed writing this and am glad that I was able to write this in the amount of time given - I was given two weeks - which wasn't long in my personal opinion.

This will be updated slowly as I have other books to write and I do have a life outside of Wattpad that I must go to. This sounds like deja vu but oh well.

Anyway I hope that you enjoy this.
