LuciferXHades Cut Scene

Read this ONLY after you have read Chapter Twenty-Six of The Hybrid.

-----------

"Why are you doing this?" Lucifer demanded, watching Hades input countless numbers and programming data, all of which was pure gibberish to Lucifer.

Not that he cared for the silly numbers and codes.

What he cared about was the god who currently had his back to him in a very fuck you kind of way, one Lucifer should've been used to, one that Lucifer normally knew how to handle calmly, rationally, but today.... no, not today. He couldn't stand it. He couldn't stand being brushed off. Hades knew that and he was using it against Lucifer, not that the archangel held it against him. A sharp flicker of pain cut through him as he remembered the last time he and Hades had gotten into a fight, shortly after Hades had sent Hannibal in to be personally trained by Ares.

"You're blowing this out of proportion," Hades had chided him, watching Lucifer pace his office like a feral tiger, "Akin already explained the situation. He's a hysterical person. You should've seen the way he reacted the other night when Hannibal got a paper cut."

"There's a huge difference between a paper cut and being forced to have sex," Lucifer snapped imaptiently, turning to pin Hades with a glare that made the Greek god stiffen, "You of all people should know that." Hades clenched his teeth so hard, it was a miracle they didn't shatter. It was like a cold icy blade cut through him. Lucifer watched Hades's expression darken and a sharp pang of pain cut through his chest.

"Hades, I didn't--"

"I know there's a fucking difference," Hades said through grinding teeth, "I also know there's a difference between an unwanted kiss and an unwanted cock. What else are you gonna throw in my face today?" Lucifer took a deep breath, trying to calm his inner turmoil.

The last thing he wanted to do was take it out on Hades.

Lucifer had suffered enough heartbreak, over and over again. He'd hurt and killed a dozen or so lovers before Hades, and they had done the same to him. He had been so tired, so worn, so broken, when he met Hades. It was like the Greek god had stitched all his shattered remains back together again and made him whole. His heart bled and beat for Hades.

Nothing wounded him more than to see Hades in pain, and he'd just done the unthinkable by dredging up the god's own bitter past. He hadn't meant to, either. He was just infuriated, and it wasn't just the situation with Hannibal. It wasn't just the fact that Hades had brought one of his past lovers into the domain. It wasn't just the fact that there was a war leering over their heads, threatening to drop a noose around their throat and hang them where they stood.

It was Akin.

Another phantom pain erupted in Lucifer's chest as he continued to glare at Hades's back while the Greek god worked in angry silence to create a body for a Titan who didn't deserve to be brought back.

Lucifer was used to his children running to him for help, used to their presence always being right around the corner. He adored his children, loved them to death. He'd do anything for them. It was why, again his own personal feelings, that he allowed Akin's mother, Lillian, to leave him and take Akin.

"I can't stay here," Lillian had told him one morning, the golden sun illuminating her pretty blonde hair and glistening blue eyes, like the angel Lucifer had constantly told her she was, "Lucifer, I have to take Akin and leave." Those words pierce his heart like a blade. He felt the air leave his lungs in a rush, his gut drop like lead, and his world suddenly shattered to pieces on his head as he watched Lillian cry silently, looking at him expectantly.

"No," He managed, "Lillian, please." He couldn't manage more than that. He didn't trust himself.

"I can't let Akin grow up without a mother," Lillian whispered, and her fingers subconsciously brushed the puncture wounds on her throat from Lucifer's last feeding, "At this rate, I'll be dead before Akin hits puberty... Lucifer, I know what it's like to grow up without a mother. It's cold and it's painful and it's sad. Do you have any idea how many times I walk down the street and see mothers loving their children and I turn to mine and remember, oh, she's not there? I won't put Akin through that." Lucifer swallowed against the painful lump in his throat.

He'd sat through countless nights with Lillian while she wept over her mother's loss. Her mother had died in front of her at the age of twelve, murdered in a senseless gang war that left Lillian motherless, an orphan considering her father was just one of her mother's clients.

"He can't grow up without a father either." Lucifer tried. It was a low blow and he knew that, but he was desperate. He couldn't let Lillian leave, couldn't let her take Akin. The moment Lillian had shown him his precious little blonde baby, he wanted to weep. Jaques finally had a little brother to play with. He wound finally have another bubble of sunshine to look up at him with hope and love.

"Lucifer, please, this is hard enough as it is," Lillian said tearfully, "Lucifer, I love you. I do. I love you so much... But I have to do what's best for Akin."

"I can control it." Lucifer pleaded. Lillian just gave him a sad stare. They both knew he couldn't control the curse Michael had placed on him; the curse that drove him to crave his lover's blood on a near daily basis. He'd already killed Jaques's mother, and two other lovers. If Lillian were to die... Lucifer choked on a sob and Lillian grabbed him in her arms, cradling him against her, letting the archangel rest his head on her shoulder as she stroked his blonde curls, her tears soaking his tunic.

"I'm so sorry." Lillian whispered helplessly. Lucifer embraced her tightly in return, kissing the top of her head before tilting her head back so he could wipe the tears from her cheeks with his thumbs.

"Never apologize for loving our son." He replied in barely a whisper. It was the last time he held Lillian in his arms, the last time he kissed her, the last time he heard her soft lilting accent.

After that, he was sure he would never see Akin again, until he had gotten a hit from one of his spies in Hades, informing him Akin's mother was dying, that they were together in a tiny dirty hovel in the slums. Despite, Lucifer had poured money into their accounts... but all of Lillian's money had went to Akin, as she had died only a few days after the money transfer. Every instinct told Lucifer to hunt his son down and get him back, but he couldn't. It was more than just Lillian's plea that kept him at bay, more than just his personal fears of meeting him for the first time.

It was the shaky treaty he held with Hades. If he so much as stepped one foot in Hades, Hades would have launched an attack on him and killed his son without remorse.

Or so he thought. The god had put up a facade about himself, one Lucifer thought he'd broken down for good when they began to date.

Now it was back, that thick wall of ice stood between Lucifer and Hades, who continued to type away on his stupid computers, trying to pretend he was engrossed in the project.

"Hades, answer me." Lucifer said, voice cracking. He was terrified, but he wasn't going to say it out loud. He was terrified Hades was going to take his things and leave. He was terrified Hades would leave that wall between them forever, because of his stupid mistakes, his words said in anger. He wanted to argue logically, but if there was one thing that wasn't logical, it was emotions.

"And say what," Hades said in a low, menacing voice without turning around, "What do you want me to say?" Lucifer ground his teeth together for a moment. He wanted to grab Hades and force him to look at him, but he knew better than to get rough with Hades.

"I want to know why you're defending the hybrid. Why you're bringing back a Titan for him. And why you brought Tsukuyomi here." He demanded in frustration. Hades stopped clicking buttons to rest his hands on the edge of the control panel, looking up to glare at the giant test tube in front of him that bubbled and flickered with activity. His blue eyes narrowed before he turned around slowly.

"I'm not defending the hybrid," Hades started heatedly, "In case you're forgetting, I have my own beef with the little shit. But I recognize when you have to put your personal shit aside for the greater good." That particular jab made Lucifer flinch. Hades definitely knew what it was like to sacrifice everything for the greater good, and his heart clenched as he remembered what Hades had been willing to give up in order to keep his family, and his people, safe.

"And I'm bringing back the Titan because the hybrid has a point," Hades responded bitterly, "You think I want to bring that son of a bitch back? You think I like it? I'd rather take a dip in the Acheron, but I have no choice. The hybrid needs someone who can back him up, someone who can keep him under control on the field and while Akin does a pretty good job of it, he's too soft on him. The hybrid needs someone with an iron fist and Menoetius is that iron fist." Lucifer understood that, but he still couldn't believe they were doing this. The idea of another Titan being freed made his skin crawl.

"And for your information, Tsukuyomi is risking a lot more than you could ever know by being here. So why don't you just back the fuck off?" Hades demanded. Lucifer glared at him.

"I want to know who he is to you."

"He's a friend."

"You said you don't have any friends."

"I don't. Tsukuyomi is different."

"Why, because you slept together? Is that it?" Lucifer demanded. Hades tensed.

"Watch it, angel, or I might actually consider seriously hurting you." He warned. Lucifer didn't give a shit about Hades's warning. It wasn't even really Tsukuyomi he was angry at, but his already thinning temper gave way to emotions he'd been bottling up this whole time. A wave of icy hot jealousy plagued him at the idea of one of Hades's old lovers.

Hades's heart was not an easy thing to win over. The Greek god was very picky about who he let past his defenses, and even Lucifer sometimes found himself unable to break into certain parts of the god's heart, but Tsukuyomi seemed to have won over more places than Lucifer had and that made him tense.

He could already feel Akin slipping through his fingers and now he was watching Hades do the same and he was terrified and nervous and sick to his stomach and his heart was beginning to ache, like it was preparing for another long spell of heartbreak that he just was not ready for.

"Hades, please." Lucifer said at last. Hades glared at him, studied him, then threw up his hands in exasperation and turned away from him to poke at his control panel buttons, causing the test tube to light up and bubble and growl. He input information from the vial that was currently shoved into a slot on the panel, a vial that contained the Titan's blood that Zeus had sent him a couple weeks ago.

They stood in silence for a while. Hades shut his eyes tightly, frustration burning inside him. He didn't want to divulge the special month he spent with Tsukuyomi. It had been a dark time in his life and he'd just returned from yet another unpleasant visit from Zeus, and that one had been particularly bad as Zeus had just discovered Hades's collection of sons. To be precise, the god king had been furious over the conception of Cain and Abel, which had required Hades to slip away to the mortal realm.

Zeus had punished him thoroughly for that mishap.

And he'd returned home, aching, furious, abused, and wanting to take it out on the first person on his list, of which was Tsukuyomi.

"Tsukuyomi was fleeing Japan," Hades said aloud, making Lucifer frown and look at him, curious and surprised that Hades had finally given in after only a few moments of silence, "He never told me what he was running away from, just that he had to get away or he was going to do something stupid, so I told him he could stay here. One thing led to another, and before I knew it, Tsukuyomi and I were sharing a bedroom. It was late July, so Persephone was visiting her mother and I don't know, call it a momentary lapse of judgment, but I needed someone to occupy the space around me."

I didn't want to be alone.

He didn't say it, but Lucifer heard it. His heart broke for his lover.

Hades raked a hand through his long hair and turned to lean on the control panel, eyes studying the black tiles on the floor as he dropped his hand to rub his arm.

"Tsukuyomi stayed for a month before he told me he needed to go back. I wasn't sure why. He just looked... different than when he first came. Anyway, Tsukuyomi was a pretty decent time in my life, but it's done and over with and I already have someone else, someone I was willing to divorce Persephone over, so you should be really fucking grateful, all right?" Hades demanded. Lucifer frowned, unsure what to say.

It was obvious Hades felt something for Tsukuyomi, but he had a point. It wasn't enough for Hades to break off their current relationship, his and Lucifer's.

"Besides," Hades tacked on dryly, "He's the only moon god that doesn't hate me."

"Artemis hates you?"

"Like an insurance commercial in the middle of a Dexter marathon."

"And Selene?"

"Is a cunt and I hate her more than she hates me. I guarentee it." Hades responded. Lucifer said nothing more. He wasn't sure why he felt jealous before, when Hades had a point. This was the longest relationship either of them had had. It meant something. It was important. Special.

"I'm sorry," Lucifer said at last, making Hades frown, "This wasn't about Tsukuyomi. Or Menoetius. Or Hannibal. Not really." Hades studied him for the longest time, then averted his eyes.

"It's Akin." He realized. He probably would've known sooner, had he been able to read Lucifer's mind like he could with everyone else, but those who wormed their way into his heart were opted out of his mind-reading experience. Even so, he noticed recently that Lucifer had been particularly desperate to get Akin's attention, even cancelling several dates so he could run to Akin, who only agreed because he was afraid of hurting his father's feelings... or so Hades assumed.

"He hates me," Lucifer confessed at last in frustration, coming over to lean on the control panel beside Hades, who watched him with a frown, "I know he does. At first, when Akin came to live with me, it was great, but, Hades, I'm not used to a son that doesn't want my attention, at least every so often. Even Thorn, who lives in a completely different realm, will call me for help or simply to converse. But Akin doesn't want anything to do with me. And when I tried to talk to him about the incident with Hannibal, he refused to speak to me. He told me it was none of my business and I should let him handle it. I've seen him speak to Hannibal like that, but not me. I'm his father. Shouldn't he want to talk to me about these kinds of things?"

Hades was almost amused with the archangel's predicament. He had experience with children ignoring him-- because he was Hades. No one wanted to have a heart-to-heart with him, of all people. Even Theo, the big mouthed brat he was, tended to steer away from certain conversation topics. Theo refused to discuss his cutting with Hades, and Sept for that matter. He refused to speak of his mother, unless Hades found himself badmouthing her, Theo would take it upon himself to defend the worthless bitch's soul. Something he never understood.

"He's independent," Hades replied slowly, choosing his words carefully, not to spare the archangel's feelings, but to spare the relationship another argument, "He's an adult. He's used to living on his own, doing his own thing. Now he's suddenly got a father and he probably doesn't know what the hell he's doing. I know I'd be pretty fucking freaked out."

"Because your father was a worthless bastard." Lucifer muttered. Hades almost laughed. If he pointed out the archangel was pouting, though, he was sure Lucifer would take his head off and the purpose of this conversation was to repair damage before it was too late.

And that thought caused the Greek to sober quickly.

He didn't want to lose Lucifer. For some reason, the idea made him physically ill. And even though they argued in the past, they both knew this one was different. If they didn't fix it, something could happen to it very soon.

"Look," Hades said, trying again, "I'm not a very good person to talk to about this, but I'm listening, all right? All I'm saying is that you need to accept the fact that Akin's not a little kid. He's got his own thing and right now, he's freaking out about the hybrid. He'll worry about his daddy issues later, and you should too." Lucifer frowned.

"That's not helpful."

"I never said I was helpful. I'm just telling you to quit climbing all over the guy. He'll come to you when he needs you, trust me. Malachi ignored me for nearly six centuries before he finally said something to me."

"I don't want to wait six centuries."

"Knowing Akin and his big mouth, he won't wait six centuries. Probably six weeks, but not centuries." Hades scoffed. Lucifer sighed, pushing his hand through his hair before looking at Hades, who was frowning at him. His heart ached at the sight of those beautiful glowing blue eyes watching him intensely, as if waiting for him to snap again, and to be honest, Lucifer was still tense. He still wanted to pull Akin aside, still wanted to hit the hybrid, and still wanted to keep an eye on Tsukuyomi.

And none of it was Hades's fault.

So there was no point in taking it out on the one person who was always, always, going to be there for him.

He pushed off the control panel and stood in front of Hades, who cocked his head and arched a brow as if challenging him. Lucifer stared at him, their gaze holding for several seconds of silence before Hades dipped his head down and captured the archangel's lips in a deep, hungry kiss filled with clicking fangs and nipped lips.

Lucifer groaned low in his throat, stepping closer. Hades lifted himself up slowly to sit on the control panel, his legs parted so Lucifer could stand between them, the archangel's hands wandering up that tight black shirt, feeling across bulging abs and narrow waist. Hades growled as Lucifer's thumb passed over his nipple. He snatched Lucifer's hand and rubbed harder, breathing heavily.

"Fucking finally," Hades seethed against his mouth, "I'm starving." Lucifer laughed quietly against his lips, kissing them gently before trailing chaste little kisses all the way to Hades's ear.

"Then allow me to serve you." He responded softly. Hades sighed, one of relief and comfort as Lucifer buried his lips against the Greek's throat, his fangs grazing his skin, tickling it. He shivered, goosebumps creeping over his skin at the sensation, more pleasure rushing through his veins when Lucifer started to grind himself against Hades's groin. Breathless, their lips met again in a hungry kiss before Hades's cell phone started to play Papa Roach's Last Resort.

"Damn it." Lucifer cursed, breaking their kiss to step back. Hades rolled his eyes, grabbed him close again while reaching for the cell phone.

"Who said you could stop?" He demanded. Lucifer raised an eyebrow, but Hades dipped his head down to give him a biting kiss before he hooked the cell phone over his ear, pulling Lucifer to him so the archangel could kiss a hot path down his throat.

"Yeah, Hades." Hades greeted with a growl.

"Yeah, Hades, we have a problem, huge problem," Akin's voice came in through the speakers, making both him and Lucifer pause, "We're fighting one of the Khalian, Drak. It's bad, really bad. We need back up, and fast. Hannibal's hurt and I think he's scared, but he won't say it." Hades sighed in frustration, pinching the bridge of his nose as Lucifer stepped back to give him a look of alarm. Hades waved his hand at him to indicate that he calm down, to which Lucifer gave him a glare and Hades shrugged innocently.

"All right," Hades said, interrupting Akin's nervous chatter, "Calm down, the process is almost complete. The physical body is still forming, but it's getting there. I already called Zelios and he's having Noe deliver Menoetius's soul. You have about... an hour."

"Make it half an hour."

"Excuse me, I don't think--"

"Hades, I love you, but you will not tell me to wait while my baby is freaking the hell out. So do your job and quit making out with my dad, seriously, not okay right now. Do that after we make it out alive." Click. Hades scowled as he unhooked the cell phone from his ear.

"Well, that was fuckin' rude," He said, then looked up at Lucifer, who frowned, "So are we good or are you gonna keep sulking and ditching me?" Lucifer's expression relaxed.

"We're good." he answered. Hades instantly brightened.

"Good. Now shut the fuck up and give me that stack of papers. Time to make this body compatible with the soul."

----------

A/N: A lot of people were curious about the situation with these two, so I figured I'd shed some light. It all came right down to Lucifer coping with a weird version of empty nest syndrome... Akin's new to his life. He's not sure how to handle it. And on the bright side, Hades has perfected his artificial creations, so hopefully Menoetius won't have an Alaric meltdown! Woo!
