6 - Nightmares

CHAPTER SIX: NOT EDITED

I shuffled around my entire room to distract myself from last night's events that kept replaying in my head. The events were horrifying to witness, especially since one of my family members got in the crossfire. My brother was even more dangerous than I thought because now my dad has a broken wrist because of a hammer cracking the bones to pieces.

Theo and I arrived home late after being at Tara's grave and having Liam and Stiles stop us in our tracks when we found them spying on us. I knew that Theo was livid deep down but he failed to show it in front of the pair because he needed them to trust him.

"Theo?" I asked, looking at my brother with concern, "Are you okay?"

"What makes you think I'm not okay?" Theo said, gripping the wheel tighter.

I glanced at the way he was holding the steering wheel, "Well for starters your knuckles look like they're going white from how hard you're gripping the wheel."

Theo didn't respond to my accusation, and I knew something was up with him. I could tell that he was angry at Stiles for bringing up the tickets with our dad's signature, and at our parents for the whole thing. Someone was going to be in trouble when we got home, and knowing my brother, their punishment would be horrifying.

"Get your asses to the table, now!" Theo shouted when we walked into the house, "Carter go upstairs."

I was about to protest but the look on his face told me to not argue with him. Shaking my head, I looked at my parents who looked scared out of their mind and I couldn't blame them in the end.

The screams from downstairs was loud and unbearable to the point that I had to grab my headphones to drown out the noises from below my room last night. Shaking my head, I grabbed my things and went downstairs where a certain strawberry blonde was waiting for me. I was surprised to see her at my house after finding out that Theo was my brother but I guess she saw the differences between us.

"Hey Lydia," I smiled in her direction, "What are you doing here? I mean, I don't mind you being here but-"

"Carter, you're rambling again," Lydia said to me.

"Sorry, it's a habit."

"I'm here because Malia needs some assistance," Lydia explained, walking out of the house with me walking slowly behind.

"Assistance with what?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows in confusion.

"Driving," she responded, "She asked me to come get you."

When she opened the door there was Malia sitting in the driver's seat with Scott's girlfriend sitting in the backseat with wide eyes. I knew this was a good opportunity for me to get to know everyone in the True Alpha's pack, unlike my brother who just wants to gain their trust rather than getting to know them as a person.

"Hey Malia," I smiled in her direction before turning to the kitsune that was sitting next to me, "And Kira."

"Hey," Kira smiled awkwardly while she gripped the seats in nervousness.

We started driving to the main roads after Lydia suggested going to the school's parking lot for Malia to drive in. According to the strawberry blonde, Malia almost knocked out a student today at driver's training, making me almost choke on my spit in laugher at the werecoyote's glare at the banshee.

"You need to have faith in me," Malia said, glancing one more time at Lydia before looking back at the road.

"I have faith in you if that counts Malia," I found myself saying from the back seats.

"See, why can't you be like Carter?" Malia asked Lydia.

"When you learn how to drive without me thinking this is my death wish, then maybe I will have some faith in you," Lydia said sarcastically.

"Hey, I know that I haven't seen all of her driving yet, but she is still learning," I defended the brunette who smiled at me in gratitude.

"This is why I like you Carter," she said to me.

I felt my cheeks burning when those words left her mouth. Something about her words made me all fuzzy inside and I knew that she was special to me. Even though Malia and I haven't known each other for long, I feel some sort of connection to her that I've never felt before in my life.

"Malia, pull over," Lydia said finally after a few minutes of silence.

"Why?" Kira spoke up for the first time since they started driving.

"She isn't holding the wheel right."

"Oh, yeah, Malia put your hands on the wheel, at 10:00 and 2:00," Kira advised the werecoyote.

"Actually, the recommended position is now 9:00 and 3:00," Lydia pointed out to Kira, "At 10:00 and 2:00, a deployed airbag could break your thumbs."

"Mine would heal," Malia said, looking at the girl before moving her eyes back on the road.

"Save your strength," I advised her, "And try not to hurt your car."

"Her beautiful new car," Kira said with an awkward glance at me and then back to Malia.

I watched Malia mumble something under her breath before starting the car once more. I zoned Kira out when she kept saying things to the brunette only for her to snap back, in attempt to say stop talking to her. I looked out the window and noticed that we were heading off the road now and on the grass.

"Uh, Malia?" I asked, concern lacing in my voice when I realized we were in the grass now, "Please go back on the road, you're scaring me to death."

"Other way," Lydia advised her.

"Malia, please go the other way," Kira said in a frightened voice and I couldn't blame her.

A loud noise started to beep in front of the car and that made me furrow my eyebrows in confusion on what it was making that sound. I glanced at Kira who looked at me with a shrug in attempt to tell me she didn't know what was going on at the moment. Malia seemed to have the same idea because she looked at me in the mirror before looking at the strawberry blonde next to her.

"What is that?" Malia asked, furrowing her eyebrows, "What is that beeping?"

"The car's telling you not to run into the tree," Lydia pointed out to her.

"Malia," I called out to her when a tree came into the main focus of the car, "Turn the wheel, please."

"Malia!" We all shouted when she didn't listen to me the first time.

Malia yanked on the wheel, making me hit my head on the back of her seat. I let out a groan before glancing out the window to see us back on the main road, but we were going in circles over and over again.

"Malia, if you don't stop you're going to get me car sick," I retorted, feeling my stomach churn.

"Okay, sure," Malia nodded, ignoring what I fully said.

"This is called a U-turn," Lydia commented.

"You said, "turn the wheel," Malia pointed out to the strawberry blonde.

I ignored the rest of their conversation because my stomach was churning in different ways. I felt sick to my stomach and I knew that if we didn't stop turning in circles I would get sick in the car. Someone put their hand on my back, rubbing comforting circles until I could feel better. When I finally felt my stomach relaxing, I glanced over at Kira and gave her a smile in thanks for looking out for me.

"Anybody want to tell me where we're going?" Malia asked.

"The school," I suggested, "Malia, you can practice driving in the school's parking lot. I would fee better there than on the main road where we could hit a tree or something."

Lydia shook her head, "This isn't the way to the school."

"What?"

"We're actually heading downtown."

I furrowed my eyebrows when Lydia told Malia to keep going in a weird monotone voice. Her voice sounded different, like she was in a weird start of mind or something, then it clicked. Theo told me that she was a banshee, and that she would have these senses when someone is either dying or soon to be dead.  When we finally arrived, Malia slammed on the brakes, earning a groan from me, but before I could say anything I heard the doors slam shut.

"Call 911," I heard Lydia shout loudly.
