3 - Other Raeken
CHAPTER THREE: NOT EDITED
My alarm clock went off around seven in the morning, making me groan out loud. I was sore, the events from last night were fresh in my mind and I still was scared to go outside of my bedroom, fearing that Theo would beat me up again.
With all of the strength I had left, I pushed my covers back and got out of my bed silently. I walked slowly to my closet and pulled out a couple of shirts to decide from. After I picked the shirt I wanted, I silently got undressed and put my shirt on and a pair of skinny jeans in front of the mirror.
"Oh for fuck sakes," I muttered when I saw a black circle around my left eye.
When I got home last night, I was surprised to see Theo still angry at me. When I opened the door, he was there already, waiting for me. He pushed me against the wall and punched me straight in the left eye, leaving a horrible bruise right at instance. It shocked me to the core that Theo, my own brother attacked me over something that happened in the past. A knock was heard at my door, making me grip the end of my shirt until my knuckles turned white when I heard my brother's voice coming from behind it.
"Carter? Are you up yet?"
"Yeah, I am," I shouted back, a sigh of relief leaving the back of my throat when Theo left me alone. I couldn't stand to get hurt anymore, I didn't need that in my life.
I quickly got ready and walked out of my room with my book bag on my right shoulder. I made my way down the hallway and saw my brother walking out of the front door with his car keys in his hands. I followed my brother into the car and I refused to look at him in the eye after what he done last night.
"Carter?"
I ignored my brother's pleading look because I wasn't going to give him the benefit of knowing that I would forgive him after he punched me last night in the eye. It hurt like a bitch and I couldn't understand why Theo punched me in the first place. I'm pretty sure he isn't the boss of me, even though he says he is, he is not.
"Please say something," he gave me the puppy dog eyes.
"If I was talking to you, I would say fuck off, but I'm not talking to you," I retorted sarcastically."
"Car-"
"Nope, still not talking to you."
I heard Theo sigh, ending the conversation. The rest of the car ride was in complete silence, something that I've loved the most. Ever since we were little, I loved the silence while Theo loved the activity side of things, making us the polar opposites in certain situations. I tapped my fingers on top of my legs while we headed to school.
"Look Carter, I didn't mean to take my anger out on you," Theo said, "I just worked hard getting us to this point and I didn't want anything to screw it up."
"Screwing what up? Theo, you worry me sometimes, not only because you want to hurt others, but you hurt me the most," I said, glancing at him briefly before turning my attention back to the window.
"I don't mean-"
"You didn't mean to, Theo? Really? You're pathetic," I snapped at him.
My breath hitched in the back of my throat when Theo drew his arm back and punched me right in my left eye, the same one he punched last night. Tears were threatening to come out of my eyes when my brother's eyes widened at what he done. I slammed my door open and realized that we arrived to school.
"Carter, wait!"
I ignored him, walking straight to the school when I accidentally collided with someone. A pair of arms caught me before I could totally fall on the floor, making me look up to see Malia holding on to me. I went to splutter out an apology when she spoke up before I could.
"Are you alright?" she asked, holding me in place before letting go softly.
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine," I stuttered out, hiding my face so she wouldn't see my black eye.
"Malia!"
Stiles's voice was heard, making the pair look up to see the pale boy running towards them. He stopped in front of them, panting heavily as he tried to catch his breath. Before I could open my mouth, my mouth closed when I saw Malia looking over my shoulder at something. When I turned around, I saw her looking at my brother who was waving in her direction.
"What is it Stiles?" Malia turned to look at Stiles, "Is this about the background check you did on Theo again?"
"Yeah-"
"And the only thing you found was a speeding ticket, right?"
"Correct."
I scoffed at their conversation, catching Stiles's attention. I could tell he was examining me, debating if he should say anything to me. I hoped it was the opposite, I don't need Theo punching me anymore- twice is enough for me.
"Who are you-"
"What happened to your eye?" Malia asked, cutting Stiles off.
"W-What?"
"What happened to your eye?" Malia repeated the question.
"N-Nothing," I stuttered, "I fell down the stairs, that's all."
Malia narrowed her eyes but didn't say anything about it. I was kind of happy that she didn't say anything about it. I didn't want them to know that Theo was my fraternal twin brother because I knew that Stiles didn't trust him, but neither did I. A hand grabbed my wrist, and I realized it was Malia who was pulling me to the entrance of the school.
"Um, Malia?" I asked her, "Where are you taking me?"
"Lydia," she responded, "I'm taking you to Lydia Martin."
I sighed, giving into her because I actually wanted to make friends in high school, unlike my brother who wanted to do the total opposite. When we reached the strawberry blonde, she was standing in front of her locker, applying make up to her face.
"Lydia," Malia called out to her friend, making Lydia turn to see Malia and I.
"Malia," she nodded, then turned in my direction with narrowed eyes, "Who is this Malia? And why do you have him on a tight leash."
"Carter," I introduced myself, "My name is Carter."
"And I have him on a lease because he needs some make up to cover up his black eye," Malia said bluntly.
I looked down at the floor in embarrassment before a hand was placed under my chin, lifting it up to meet Lydia's eyes. She frowned in my direction before carefully applying some foundation under my eye, in attempt to cover up the black lines under my left eye. Soon, Malia left us alone to my disappointment. She seems so carefree and that's why I felt calm around the brunette because our personalities seemed to connect easier than others.
"Are you new here?" Lydia started a conversation.
"Yes, I just moved from San Francisco with my brother back to Beacon Hills," I explained, "We used to live here back in the day."
"Who is your brother?"
I inwardly debated on if I should tell her or not, but I soon found the words leaving my mouth, "Um, my brother is Theo, we're fraternal twins."
"Theo? As in Theo Raeken?"
"Yeah, but don't worry, I'm not like him," I quickly said, "I'm just the other Raeken that no one knows about."
It was silent for a few minutes, both of them not saying anything. I could understand why she didn't say anything else after learning that I was Theo's brother. I silently prayed that she wouldn't go off and tell Scott and Stiles because I couldn't bare to be beat up again by my brother.
"There, you're done," Lydia smiled, pleased by her work, "Try not to rub under your eye for a little bit. I don't want the make up to rub off before it dries completely."
I looked in the mirror, smiling at her work, "Thank you Lydia."
"No problem," she said, "What is your next class?"
"AP Biology," I said, looking down at my class schedule that I took out of my pocket when she asked me.
"Great, me too," Lydia nodded before linking her arm into mine, "I will take you there."
I laughed at her actions, "I can see us having a beautiful friendship."
They walked down the hallway, arm to arm while heading to class. I knew that this day was getting better, but who knew that would change when a certain boy named Stiles decides to question me and my brother in a few hours.
