CHAPTER SIXTEEN: NOT EDITED
Scott and I watched Stiles hit the ground with a thud, making me wince at how much pain he was truly in. Looking over at Scott, he nodded and that's when we walked out of the hallway and down the stairs to our best friend. A frown was plastered on my face when I saw that Stiles wouldn't wake up, causing both Scott and I to go in panic mode.
"Stiles?" I asked, bending down to examine him, "Stiles, please wake up!"
Scott copied my actions and started to shake his best friend in attempt to wake him up before the situation could get any worse. I couldn't blame him, even though Stiles and I aren't the greatest friends, I still care about him in a way. I'm not sure if Scott considers me apart of his pack or not, but I will always care about them.
"Are you okay?" Scott asked once Stiles started to stir awake, "Are you hurt?"
"I'm fine," Stiles groaned when he got into a sitting position, "What happened?"
"You blacked out," I said, swallowing hard, "Are you sure you're fine, Stiles?"
"I'm okay," Stiles nodded in my direction, "Did you get anything from him?"
"I didn't," I shook my head, making Stiles look at me in confusion.
"What do you mean-"
"Nothing," Scott said, interrupting Stiles before he could ask the question on his mind, "He was calm the entire time."
"What about his heart?" Stiles asked them both.
"I heard it jump," I said, thinking about the moment when it happened.
"I did too," Scott agreed, "But only once, and only for a second."
"That doesn't mean he was lying," I explained to him, "Theo knows how to steady his heartbeat."
"But the rest of the time it was steady, right?" Stiles questioned, "When did it jump? What was I talking about?"
"It was when you said that your dad dad was poisoned," Scott said, thinking back to what was said.
"That could be something," I asked Scott, "A jump could mean surprise, right?"
"Yeah, yeah I think so," Scott nodded.
"So why would he be surprised that my dad's still dying?"
"Wait," I paused before speaking, "He didn't say that he was the one who attacked your dad, did he?"
"No," Stiles shook his head.
"Well, then this means it was probably someone else," Scott said in realization, "Another chimera."
I watched Stiles take off out of the house, not caring if Scott and I caught up. I ran after Stiles with Scott by myself and when we caught up with him, he was inside his rental care while his jeep was in the shop getting repairs. I stood a couple steps behind Scott, not wanting to be in the middle because this was something that they needed to work out between each other.
"Stiles?"
"Yeah, I can do the rest myself," Stiles stated, looking away from Scott, "All we know that it's another chimera."
"Do you even know where you're headed?" Scott asked when Stiles started the car's engine, "Come on, let me help. I can find the clues that you can't."
"Stiles, you can't do this alone," I commented, walking up to them, "You need Scott by your side."
"You need all of us," Scott looked at me before resting his eyes on Stiles, "I can get more help. I can text Liam."
"Liam, just tried to kill you," Stiles pointed out, "And he killed Carter."
"You really had to bring that up," I said bitterly.
"But you believed him," Stiles ignored my comment, "You trusted him, too."
"Theo got to all of us," Scott pointed out to Stiles.
"You know, you don't even know the real story," Stiles said, swallowing hard, "And you don't even know Carter's full story as well."
"I want to tell you guys what really happened, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to face it yet," I said, wincing at the memory.
"You can tell us when you're ready, Carter," Scott said softly, "And I don't need to know both of your stories because I realized that it was self-defense, for both of you."
"I think," I said, pausing before speaking again, "All that matters right now is your dad."
"Come on, Stiles," Scott sighed, "We survived an Alpha pack, a Dark Druid, professional assassins. We can survive Dread Doctors and Chimeras, too."
"And we can survive being around my brother."
"I know we can," Stiles sighed, cracking a small smile, "And we're not looking for a missing chimera. We're looking for a missing teenager."
---
A few hours later we got everything sorted out. Scott went back to school to figure out who this missing teenager could be and where was he last found. As of now, I was walking into the tunnels where Scott and Stiles had been before. Shaking my head, I approached Scott and Stiles and shoved my hands inside of my pockets while we waited for who knows what.
"Now we can catch his scent," Scott said after a few minutes, looking behind them.
I turned around to see Malia approaching us, "You called her? Scott, she is still mad at me, you know?"
"I'm sorry Carter," Scott sighed loudly, "I should be calling everyone."
"And I know what this kid looks like," Malia said when she reached us.
I walked away in my own thoughts, not caring if they needed me or not. At this moment of time, I was upset at Scott. Malia and I haven't spoken since I told her the whole truth and I couldn't blame her. If I was in her position I would've done the same thing to anyone. My ears perked up when Malia started to talk, her voice was audible and I knew that they were talking about me.
"He didn't want you to call me, did he?"
"No," Scott sighed, "He didn't even know that I called you in the first place."
"Was it that bad?" Stiles asked her.
"Yeah, yeah it was," Malia said, "I guess our friendship kind of broken up."
"So has ours," Scott said, looking at Stiles who walked away from them, "Hey, you can tell me what's going on with you. I mean besides Stiles. You can talk to me."
"And me too," I said, walking over to them with my hands inside my jean pockets, "Malia, you know that I'm here for you, right?"
"I said I'd help find this kid and I'm doing it to save Stiles' dad," Malia said, ignoring what I said, "Don't ask me to talk."
"We're not asking," I said, looking at Scott, "We're simply offering."
"I'm just saying it's okay if you want to."
"I know," Malia sighed, then her posture straightened, "I got it. I got his scent."
We all walked together, not saying another word to each other. I didn't mind the silence because sometimes that's better than nothing. When we reached deeper inside of the tunnel, I realized it was creepy down here, making me shudder at the thought. A scent stood out to me, making me realize it was the missing teenager, Noah.
"This is Noah," I said, making the three of then stop in their tracks, "I think he's close."
"Guys," Scott said quickly, "I think we've been down tunnels like this before like when we were trying to find Liam and Hayden."
"Okay, so what?" Stiles looked at us, "Maybe, it means we're closer than we think."
"Maybe there's something else down here," Malia suggested, "Something that we haven't found yet."
"Yeah, nothing that helps my dad-"
All of sudden something, or someone knocked Stiles to the ground, making us look up to see a teenager standing over him. Anger washed over me, making me lose control when I lunged at him, my eyes glowing red and my teeth bared at him. A couple of hands grabbed me, restraining me from attacking Noah.
"Calm down Carter," Malia's soothing voice was heard, making my fangs retract and my eyes to return to their normal color.
"Thanks," I sighed when I saw Stiles getting back up.
Growling was heard, making me look up to see that Malia was baring her fangs at Noah. All of sudden, she lunged at him, pinning him to the wall as she growled. That sent red flags off in my head when I ran over to her, grabbing her shoulders and pulling her off of the trembling teenager that was on the ground now.
"They're coming," Noah said, whimpering.
A cackling was heard and when I turned around I saw nothing. The sound was familiar and I knew that I heard it from some where. Then it dawned on me what it was in the end. The Dread Doctors were coming for Noah because he was a failed chimera. I turned to look at Scott and Malia in alarm.
"You're not going anywhere," Stiles said when Noah was trying to run from them, "What happened to my Dad?"
"I don't remember," Noah said frantically, "I said I don't remember."
"You don't remember anything," I asked, looking back in the direction of the cackling.
"No," Noah shook his head, "Not when it happens. Not when I change."
"You clawed my dad half to death, okay, and now it's poisoning him," Stiles snapped, narrowing his eyes, "You're gonna start remembering every detail right now."
"Scott, I heard them," I warned him.
"Yeah, I do, too," Scott said, worry plastered on his face, "Hey, Stiles, get him out of here. Go to the hospital. Figure out a way to save your dad."
"We're not gonna be able to stop them," Malia said.
"But we can slow them down," I told her before looking at Stiles, "Stiles, go!"
Stiles ran off, his arms wrapped around Noah's bicep when they ran off. I didn't have control over my shift and I still didn't know what I was in the end. I looked over at Scott who was looked at me in worry, having the same thought. Malia must have been thinking the same thing because she pushed me behind her and Scott, to protect me.
"We're gonna be okay," Scott reassured us.
"Scott, we're gonna die down here," I said, scared out of my mind.
"No, we're not."
"How can you be so sure?" Malia asked him.
"Because you're not the only one that I called," Scott said.
Then a familiar voice was heard, "Get down!"
And with that, the fight started as soon as Chris Argent shown up.
