CHAPTER ELEVEN: NOT EDITED

I stood there for a couple of moments before yelling was heard. I huffed, running to the stairs and going up them until I was on the roof. I glanced around, looking for Stiles and my brother only to see a random body on the ground with Theo on top of him. My eyes were wide in shock, making me run over to my brother to look at him with question.

"What did you do?" I screamed at him.

"Stiles, you can't say anything," Theo ignored me, "Please don't say anything."

"Why not?"

"Because I never said anything about Donovan."

"I know what happened to Donovan."

That's what made Stiles snap. I watched the pale boy push my brother into the steel gates with pure anger and shock presented on his facial expression. I could understand why Stiles was mad because my brother was there, watching it all and he could have told Scott already.

"I know everything."

"How?" I asked Theo.

Theo groaned when Stiles pushed back against the gate, "I was there Stiles.

"Where?" I asked another question.

"I was at the library," Theo explained, "Malia found the book. She was texting us to see where you were. She said she left you at the library."

"You were close," I said in realization.

"When I got there, I heard the scaffolding come down," Theo continued.

"You saw him?" Stiles asked him.

"Just the body," Theo said, "I watched you come out and I was going to say something, but then I saw the cop car. And the body was gone but I don't know who took him. I only saw what you saw, and I didn't say anything because you didn't."

In the distance sirens were wailing and it came to my conclusion that it wasn't an ambulance on it's way. It was the police on it's way to the hospital because someone probably called them about the noises that were made up here.

"That's not an ambulance, is it?" Theo voiced my thoughts, "We should get out of here."

"We can't just leave him," Stiles pointed out.

"He's right Theo," I agreed with Stiles on this one.

"Fine," Theo said, "All right, let's take him. Someone's stealing the bodies anyway, right?"

"Correct," I nodded, swallowing hard, "And now here's our chance to find out who."

"Stiles, come on," Theo said to him, walking away, "We gotta do something."

"You killed him," Stiles deadpanned.

"In self-defense," I said with a sigh.

"He was going to kill you and me," Theo pointed out, "If we stay, we're either going to have to tell the truth or we're going to need a pretty convincing story. It's your choice in the end."

"We're not going to ask you to lie to your dad," I told him.

"Don't worry. I've had plenty of practice."

And with that, we headed off the roof, grabbing the boy's body before anything else could happen.

--

And now they found themselves talking to Scott about who killed the innocent boy on the roof. It was hard to lie to him, even for me it was, but not for Theo. I looked over at Stiles who looked like he was in pain because of the lies he was feeding his best friend. I felt bad but I knew this was for his own good in the end.

"Do you know him?" I asked Scott when he looked down at the boy.

"His name was Josh," Scott said sadly, "He was a junior. Which one did it? The one with the cane?"

"Yeah," Stiles breathed out.

"What are we going to do with him?" I asked Scott.

"We can't just set the alarm and leave," Scott replied, "That's how Tracy disappeared."

"All right, someone's got to stay here with him," Stiles said.

"I'll do it," I sighed, "It's not like I had a big Saturday night planned."

"I'll stay with you," Theo said to me.

Before anyone else could be said, Scott's phone started to ring loudly throughout the whole animal clinic. A frown appeared on my lips when the True Alpha mirrored my facial expression. I wondered what it could be, maybe another chimera was found? Who really knows in this town.

"What is it?" Stiles asked Scott.

"Another one," Scott sighed, "Another chimera."

"I'll come with you," I said to them, "Then I will come back and stand watch to make sure no one steals the body."

I followed Stiles out to his jeep with Scott on our tail. Theo decided he would stay at the animal clinic to keep watch but I knew that he wanted to talk to Dread Doctors about keeping him in the loop about everything. When we got to Scott's house, we all ran upstairs to see Liam standing outside of the bathroom door.

"Hayden? It's Scott," Scott said outside of the bathroom door, "I know that you're scared, but we just want to help.

There was pause before Scott spoke again, directing his attention to Liam.

"I can hear her heart beating," Scott said to Liam, "She's really freaked out. What happened?

"She was okay when we got here," Liam replied, "I went to text you for two seconds and she locked herself in."

"Why?" I asked him.

"I don't know."

"She's definitely a Chimera?" Stiles asked.

"She said she heard a voice saying, "Your condition improves."

"Okay, that's unsettling," Stiles said, before walking up to the door, "Hayden, this is Stiles. Your sister works for my dad down at the station. Look, just open the door, okay? You can trust us."

"We just need to tell you the truth, Hayden," Scott added on Stiles's statement, "Listen, either you're gonna unlock the door or I'm gonna have to break it open. It's okay if you don't want to talk, or if you're not ready to believe us."

"But we need to know if you're okay in there," I said to Hayden."

The door opened, revealing Hayden.

"I believe you."

Stiles and I headed to the animal clinic to wait outside of the building to make sure no one was stealing to body tonight. When we got there, Theo was already waiting outside and quickly got into the jeep to help us keep watch. I knew there was tension in the air, but I decided not to say anything because I didn't want to make it worse.

"You still wondering why I haven't said anything to Scott?" Theo asked Stiles after an hour silence.

"Maybe," Stiles retorted.

"You think I've got some kind of ulterior motive," Theo sighed.

"More than likely."

"Would you believe me if I said all I want," Theo paused before speaking, "All I've ever wanted is for you guys to trust me?"

"Nope," Stiles said, "But I trust your brother more than you."

Theo glanced at me before speaking up, "So you're here because you're never going to trust me."

"Yep," Stiles said bitterly, "Glad we had this talk."

"You know who you remind me of Stiles?" I said out of the blue, catching their attention.

"Carter, I don't care."

"Theo's and I sister," I said, making Theo stiffen at the mention of her, "She was smarter than everyone too."

"And a pain in the ass like you," Theo added on, chuckling, "But she always looked out for me. The same way you look out for Scott. You know, Carter and I were the one that found her body. She'd fallen into a creek, broken her leg."

"They told us she would've been okay if it wasn't one of the coldest nights of the year," I said softly, remembering the night we found her in the water, "If it wasn't for the hypothermia. And when I found her, all I could think was that I should've known"

"That we should've been looking out for her," Theo said, ending the statement with a sigh.

Stiles looked at us before asking, "Why are you telling me this?"

"I'm telling you because even if you don't trust me and even if you don't like me, I'm still going to be looking out for you," Theo told him, "The way I should have been looking out for her."

It was silent before Theo said something that rubbed me the wrong way, "If Scott really gave up on you for some piece of crap like Donovan, then he wouldn't be a True Alpha, would he?"

"Or maybe that's the definition of one, someone who doesn't put up with murder."

"It sounds like you guys need to look up justifiable homicide," I chuckled.

Stiles looked at me in the rear view mirror, raising one of his eyebrows, "Did you seriously just say that to the son of a cop?"

"Possibly."

"A werewolf's eyes are supposed to change color when you take an innocent life," Theo informed me, letting his eyes shift to his werewolf form, "Do these look blue to you? It was self-defense. For me and for you."

"Or maybe you just don't feel all that bad about it," Stiles said, "You can't say one life is objectively less innocent than another one. What if they turn blue 'cause you feel guilty?"

"So it's up to interpretation?" I asked Stiles.

"Yeah, maybe."

"Okay," Theo said, swallowing hard, "Then here's my interpretation of what happened with you and Donovan. Not guilty. Did you feel bad about it?"

"Not now. I mean right then."

"What were you thinking the moment you knew he was dead and there was no saving him?" I asked, unsure of the answer that Theo and I would hear.

"One word," Stiles said, "Good."

Theo sniffed the air, "I smell smoke."

"Where? How?"

All of sudden, a bolt of fire hit the side of Theo's face, knocking the jeep over, and causing me to go unconscious.
