CHAPTER TEN: NOT EDITED
After waking up around seven in the morning I thought it would be a semi-normal day in Beacon Hills, but of course it wasn't. Now I found myself standing in between Kira and Scott McCall while we walked down the hallways of our school. We were currently talking about how we could remember if the Dread Doctors did something to us.
"What if we need some kind of trigger?" I asked them.
"Wasn't Malia driving when she remembered the crash?" Kira asked, her eyes wide.
"Yeah, but how are we supposed to trigger a memory that we don't remember?" I questioned, folding my arms on my chest.
"Maybe it's a delayed thing," Scott suggested, "Maybe you have to wait a couple of hours to see what happens."
The lights flickered above us, making Scott and I turn to look at Kira who raised her hands defenselessly. "It wasn't me, I swear."
"We keep an eye on each other today, okay?" Scott said, looking at Kira and I.
"Yes, and keep an eye out for eight other potentially homicidal Chimeras," I snorted at the end of my comment.
"And keep an eye out for the Dread Doctors," Kira pointed out, "And if we start to the see the appeal of an third eye."

"So while introducing the African Cane Toad, sounded like a good way to deal with Australia's infestation of the Grey-backed beetle, unfortunately, the toad also decided to eat everything else in sight," Ms. Finch explained.
I looked towards the front, ignoring my brother as much as possible. When I saw movement out the corner of my eye, my brother pulled out his phone and started to message someone who I thought was probably Scott. I couldn't see the message because Theo was obviously trying to hide his phone from me. Looking up, I saw a girl named Sydney messing with the back of her head and when she moved her hand back, a handful of hair was in her hand.
"And everything that tried to eat the toad, from crocodiles to household pets, quickly died from the poison they secreted," Mr. Finch continued, "A perfect example of an invasive species. One-hundred and two toads introduced in 1935 became 1.5 billion by 2010. Once an invasive species is introduced, everything changes."
All of sudden Sydney grabbed her books, pulling her chair back and taking off out of the class. When I looked up in front, I saw a new paper on the desk and it made me assume that she dropped out of the class. A frown appeared on my lips when Lydia got out of her seat and said something to Ms. Finch before taking off. I didn't care if I got into trouble or not, I got out of my seat and ignored the calls from my teacher before running after Lydia.
"I was just looking for your mom," Sydney said when I walked into the room, "I mean Mrs. Martin."
"Are you okay?" I asked her softly.
"Does this look okay?" She retorted, showing us a handful of her hair that was placed on top of her hand.
"How long has it been happening?" Lydia asked her with a frown.
"Three years."
"Three?" I questioned in shock.
"It's stress," Sydney explained, "I've tried everything. Medication, acupuncture, hypnosis."
"Have you tried not taking the hardest classes in school?" Lydia said with a raised eyebrow.
Sydney laughed softly before shaking her head, "No, I haven't."
My phone buzzed, making me look down to see Mason was texting me about meeting him and Kira in the library. I excused myself from the room before grabbing my books and heading towards the place where I was supposed to meet them at. I didn't want to go back to class and possibly get detention but I'm already probably going to get it.
"Hey," I said when I spotted Mason and Kira sitting by a stack of books, "What are you guys talking about?"
"About the book that we were supposed to finish," Mason informed me, "But Kira said she couldn't read it."
"Why?" I asked her.
"I don't know," Kira sighed, "I don't know what's wrong with me."
"There is nothing wrong with you," I pointed out, giving her a smile.
"Thanks," she smiled in gratitude, "I can barely read it."
"Okay, uh, this is gonna sound weird," Mason said, "Do you speak Japanese?"
"No, I'm also half-Korean and I don't speak Korean," Kira explained, "And I'm pushing a C-average in English."
"You will get there," I promised her.
"Okay, well.." Mason's voice trailed off, "I've been doing some reading on Kitsunes."
"How come?" Kira asked her.
"Cause I met one," Mason pointed out to her.
"Oh, right," Kira nodded.
"Do you know why people in Japan answer the phone "moshi moshi"?" Mason asked.
"I don't think we do," I said, looking at Kira who nodded in agreement.
"Because according to Japanese folklore, fox spirits have difficulty with language. And the way that you prove that you're not a fox. When you answer the phone, say "moshi" twice."
"And the important part is?" I asked.
"Moshi moshi" confuses Kitsunes because it's a language trick," Mason clarified, "So is the book."
"That makes sense, what if it's just one long language trick?" I questioned.
"That's why I can't read it," Kira said in realization.
"It's affecting the fox part of you," Mason told her, "Confusing it."
---
After the meeting with Kira and Mason, I went with Theo, Scott, and Stiles to the hospital to look for some possible chimeras. A lot of eventful things happened this afternoon, right after I talked to Mason and Kira, Scott started to have a panic attack when I was on the field with Liam and Brett Talbot, who I met a couple days ago.
"Stiles, go ahead of us, I need to talk to Scott privately," Theo said before looking at me, "And you to Carter."
Stiles was about to protest before I grabbed his arm and started to drag him away before he could make a sarcastic comment. "How about we make ourselves useful and look for some possible chimeras?"
Stiles huffed, "Could you please let me go? You don't need to drag me on a leash?"
I let him go before retorting, "Oh? Like the time you did it to me?"
"That was because I just found out who you were related too!" Stiles said, throwing his hands up in the air in exaggeration.
"Who cares that I'm related to Theo!"
"I do!" Stiles cried out.
"Why? Why do you care so much about him?" I asked bitterly.
"Because he is evil."
"Just because you might think he is evil doesn't mean I am," I snapped at him.
"You're a Raeken, of course you are."
That's what made me snap, I lunged at him, knocking him to the ground before punching him in the nose. I kept on punching him until I felt someone pull me off of him. When I turned around I saw it was Scott who pulled me off of his best friend with his eyes narrowed. Looking past Scott's shoulder I saw Theo looking at me as he tried to contain his laugher on how I was beating up Stiles. Figures.
"Stop it, both of you," Scott snapped, looking at both of us sternly, "Stiles, please go up to the roof and look at the wires to make sure it wasn't a chimera that is causing the flickering lights."
Stiles huffed, but didn't object to his request. He turned on his heels and headed towards the stairs that led to the hospital's roof where the wires would be. I watched Scott whisper something to Theo before he took in a different direction. A few minutes passed before Theo was going to open his mouth to say something but a sudden crash caught us off guard.
"What was that?" I frowned in Theo's direction, realizing that I could hear it as well.
"On the roof," Theo said in realization before he took off, "Stay here."
I stood there for a couple of moments before yelling was heard. I huffed, running to the stairs and going up them until I was on the roof. I glanced around, looking for Stiles and my brother only to see a random body on the ground with Theo on top of him. My eyes were wide in shock, making me run over to my brother to look at him with question.
"What did you do?" I screamed at him.
"Stiles, you can't say anything," Theo ignored me, "Please don't say anything."
"Why not?"
"Because I never said anything about Donovan."
And that was my breaking point.
