The First Hero

Wrote it when I was in a bus journey. So pardon my mistakes.

It will be hard to digest for a few of you. You can stop reading if you are not okay.

************

Advay Singh Raizada and Shalini Singh Raizada stood near door looking at the bride sitting in front of them. Their daughter looked so beautiful in the white gown. Today they have to let go off their dear princess to start a new journey. Amitha smiled at her parents and moved next to them.

"I love you both a lot. Thanks for being the best parents in the world." She said hugging her father and mother.

"We too love you a lot." They both said placing kisses on forehead.

"Come your love is impatiently waiting for you in the mandap." Saying this Advay they took their daughter towards the mandap. Advay recalled how it's all started.

Flashback

Advay Singh Raizada moved to the kitchen to get a glass of water as he don't want to disturb his wife's sleep. On returning back he saw lights in his daughter's room. Something stopped him from going to his room and he went towards his daughter, Amitha's room. He could hear faint sob as he reached next to the door. He heard the sound of chairs being moved. He moved the window a little and peeked in. What he saw in front of him took his breath away. Amitha is standing on a chair holding a rope hanging from the celing. He rushed inside and pushed his daughter down to the bed before she could hang herself.

Amitha looked at her father with fear and uncertainty.
"Papa, I..." She couldn't complete her sentence due to the slap landed on her cheek.

"What were you thinking? Amitha you should better explain this." A furious Advay asked her. He never thought that he will witness something like this ever in his life. Amitha sat on the bed with her palms covering her face. She kept crying while Advay tried to grasp the situation.

Few minutes later, Amitha felt her father sitting next to her. She don't know how she is going to explain everything to him. She don't want to live, she don't want to live as a person who brought disgrace to her family.

"Aami, look at me princess." He asked placing his hand on her shoulder. Amitha moved her hands and looked at her father with tear filled eyes.

"Don't you know how much me and your mother loves both of you? You and Arnav are our life. What's the matter which made you give up on your life?" Advay asked with much vulnerability which broke Amitha's already broken heart.

"I knew that you and maa, loves us a lot and that's why i took this decision. I don't want to live papa. I don't deserves to be in this world." The fourteen year old girl told her father in a feeble voice.

"Why didn't you talk to us? Why didn't you share your problem with us? We will be always with you princess. Who told you that you don't deserves to live? Tell me what happened to you. I can't see you like this."

"I can't take it papa. Everyone in school is mocking me, bullying me. The person I loved rejected me and made me a laughing stock in front of everyone. I can't handle it papa. I brought disgrace to this family by that. You all will hate me too." She said in broken voice.

"Aami, that boy isn't worthy of your love princess. Don't waste your tears on him. We can move to another school of you want. This is a small thing and did you get scared that we will scold you if you have feelings for a boy?" Advay felt funny and sad hearing the plight of his daughter.

"No papa, it's a girl."

"What?"

"I love a girl papa."

"Aami, what are you saying princess?"

"Papa, I got rejected by my best friend for whom I have feelings for. Now everyone in school is calling me mad. I don't know what happened to me. I likes her papa and i thought she too likes me. I tried a lot to overcome this feeling but i couldn't. I'm sorry that I brought this disgrace to our family by loving a girl. I heard nani and dadi saying that it's a crime and disgrace." Amitha let her heart out in front of her father making him shocked. It took him a few minutes to grasp the truth that Amitha is lesbian.

Amitha sat there looking down. She don't have the strength to look at her father. She don't want to see the hate in his eyes. She knew that she is mentally unstable because of which is having such thoughts. She have always decided that she will end her life or run away from her family. She don't want anyone to point fingers at her family.

Being in fashion industry, Advay is familiar with all these. He knew people who are lesbian, gay or trans, but he never thought that his daughter will turn out to be lesbian. He knew thag he have to handle the situation carefully.

"Aami,it's okay princess. There is nothing wrong with you. It's okay to love a girl." He said wrapping his arms around his daughter.

"Is that so papa?" She questioned out of curiosity.

"Yes, it is." He wiped her tears and started explained.

"In your age, everyone will have these feelings. For now just concentrate on your studies than finding love. You will find the one for you in future for sure."

"So I'm not mad?"

"No, you are not. You are perfectly okay. It's just that sometimes we take different path at some point of time. Can you do something for me?" He asked his daughter.

"What is it papa?"

"Promise me that you will talk whatever problem that bothers you before taking such drastic step."

"I promise you papa. I won't pull this stunt again."

"Papa, is there any medicine which will make me be like my friends?"

"Like what?" He questioned.

"Like boys instead of girls." Amitha asked innocently.

"No Aami, you don't need medicines because it's not a disease or disorder. For now don't think about all these and concentrate on your studies. Do you want to study in your school itself?" He enquired.

"No I dont want to. I don't want to study there."

"Okay, we will find a good school soon. Don't stress over these things."

"What about maa and others? Will they hate me?" Lots of questions popped up in the teenage girl sitting in front of him.

"No, they won't hate you. We will tell them when you will be comfortable. Now come with me. You are going to sleep with me and Shalini today." He said not wanting to leave his daughter alone. He took her to his room after removing the rope form the ceiling. Amitha laid down next to her mother and slept hugging her while Advay lost in his thoughts.

'No matter what happens, he will be always there for his children.' He said to himself and closed his eyes to sleep.

For the next two years, Advay tried his best to educate his family about lgbt while amitha concentrated on her studies. She would tell her father about her crush and he would advise her not to make a move without knowing about their sexual orientation.

When Amitha is seventeen, Advay told Shalini about her. At first it was hard for shalini to accept the fact that her daughter is a lesbian. She knew about these stuffs from her husband but being from a small town it's hard to accept when it's about her daughter. It took a few months for Shalini to fully grasp the fact that her daughter likes girl.

After completing her schooling, Amitha went abroad for higher studies and eventually followed her father's path. She joined her father's business and became the heir of the AR designs. Her younger brother didn't had any interest in business and went to become a chef. He diversified his mother's food catering service into a resturant.

Arnav accepted his elder sister's sexual orientation without any fuss. Him being studying and working as a chef abroad made him a broad minded man and it was easy for him to accept his sister. It took a hell lot of time to convience the other members and some of them still hold grudges.

Then Amitha met the love of her life in AR designs. Rima Mary John was Advay's PA and they hit it off soon. Unlike Amitha, Rima was a girl who were outcasted by her family just because of her sexual orientation. Their love blossomed and reached the stage of marriage.

Flashback back end

Advay and Shalini saw their daughter looking at Rima with lots of love in her eyes. Rima stood in the mandap in a lehanga waiting for her love. They made Amitha sit beside Rima and moved away. Soon the rituals got over and they were bonded by holy matrimony.

"I'm happy for them." Advay said to Shalini.

"It feels weird but not wrong." Shalini commented.

"It's all happened because of you. You showed me what love is and I wanted our daughter to have the same. Now she is happy with her love."

"Yes, thanks for making me realise that love don't have genders." Shalini said leaning onto her husband's shoulder. Both of them stood their watching both their daughters posing for the photo as a couple.

They knew that people will think that they all are crazy but they don't care about that. Every human have the right to love and happiness and they have given that right to their children.

Amitha looked at her father and then at Rima. She knew that she is standing here only because of her father. If her father didn't come to her room on that day, there won't be this day. He father stood with her as her backbone when everyone teased her. He never judged her and accepted Rima as his daughter too. She looked at her father who smiled at her. It's indeed true that a father is the first hero of every children. For her, he will be always the Hero.

I know that it's crappy.

You may be thinking why i didn't use Arnav and Khushi, that's because Arshi is evergreen couple and i don't like seeing them with gray hair or grown up children. *I hate such stories too, unless they are vampires 😝*

There will be a spin off of this story which will be about the love story of Amitha and Rima.
