Every Words in a Letter Are Important-English
Hello ! Non, c'est pas la team dynamique mais une fanfic que j'ai écris que Kaeya et Diluc, encore. Elle est liée aux deux autres car c'est une série intitulée "The Journey to a Normal Life" sur AO3.
Bon. C'est lié à l'événement de la 2.8 avec les lettres et Diluc./So, it is linked to the 2.8 event with the letters and Diluc.
Celle où on apprend que Kaeya n'a pas une sorte de pouvoir abyssale dans l'oeil droit./The one where we learn that Kaeya doesn't have some sort of strange abyss power in his right eye.
Et que les deux en fin de compte...s'inquiètent toujours pour l'un l'autre./And that in the end...they both still care.
No angst, hurt/comfort mostly, a bit of humour I guess. Fluff, Diluc wants to protect his baby brother. And no. Ro.mance.
Enjoy !

As Kaeya was stretching, he saw a figure in front of his window and sighed. The Captain shook his head with a smile and he walked in the window's direction. He was in his everyday outfit but without his cape and jacket. So...he was only wearing his shirt, his pants, his boots and not even his gloves.
Well, he was in his dorm so..he could do what he wanted.
But the sight of his brother in front of his window was ..unexpected.
"Well well Diluc, I thought you would use a more...common way to visit me."
"I didn't find you at your house so I thought you might be here."
Once Diluc inside, Kaeya closed the window and drew the curtains. Then, he walked towards the cabinet and took two glaces and a bottle of juice.
"Make yourself comfortable, I was in the middle of cleaning this room."
"Sorry, I interupted you."
"No worry Diluc, I've been cleaning for the whole day so a break would be nice."
The redhead smiled and sat on the chair near the table.
Kaeya poured them some juice and gave one to Diluc before he sat on the bed.
"What is giving me the honour of your presence here ?"
"I had to take care of a problem today, about the abyss order and the leylines."
Kaeya sat up straight and stared at his big brother. Then, he laughed softly with a hand in front of his mouth to hide the smirk, even thought he didn't care if Diluc saw that.
"Mister Darknight Hero is having trouble ? May I help you ?"
"Well no, the traveler came to help me and took care of the matter. The problem is all solved. But...during my researchs...I found letters."
"Letters ?" The Captain raised an eyebrow. "We all receive letter nowadays, so what is the meaning of it ?"
"I thought I might find some..clues about what was happening. And it seems like I found letters you sent me years ago."
The blueish froze, his hand gripping the glass thightly in hope to stop the trembling from gaining over his control.
"Oh. Those letters. I thought you'd have burn them immediatly after reading them."
"I did not, Kaeya. And..I read the one you send me about your eye once again. I know you aren't blind. But..I never saw ..the scar I left you, that night."
"...It is not relevant. Besides you saw it when...when I lost control that day, in your house after my little expedition."
"I did not paid attention because the only thing that mattered at the time, was you and how messed up things were."
The Winery owner stood up and walked towards his little brother. He squatted down in front of him and raised his left hand so that it would caress Kaeya's cheek.
Kaeya let out a trembling breath he did not notice he was helding. His own hand grabed Diluc's wrist in a shaky way and he closed his visible eye.
Everything right now felt too much. He was feeling too much and his entire being felt vulnerable.
And Kaeya didn't like it. But for Diluc, he would let himself being fragile.
For Diluc, he would let himself express his feelings.
When he opened his mouth, his voice was shaky from the emotions and wet from the tears his was holding.
But it was fine, Diluc would be here to hold him if he was to break down.
"Diluc..I..I don't know if you should see it. I don't want you to blame yourself even more."
Diluc laughed quietly, his hand still on his cheek "Well, I already blame myself for what I did to you. But I am so glad you didn't end up blind. So, I can bear to see a little scar on my little brother's face."
But the older could see, could almost feel the hesitation from the younger man.
The uncertainty Kaeya was feeling, the insecurity about himself, everything.
He knew Kaeya was not just a cheeky so full of himself man, that he also was sensible and full of self depreciation. His sarcasm and jokes were just to hide how he really felt.
And that put Diluc in so much pain, to see his dear brother struggling with himself and his actions all the time.
So he wanted to be once again the pillar in Kaeya's life.
He wanted to help him standing confidently and not being torned by doubts and conflicts.
"Let me see your scar Kaeya."
That was the final part Kaeya needed to hear before he nod. His normally steady fingers were skaking like a leaf. He took off his eyepatch and let Diluc look at the scar that took place on his face.
It was a clean scar. It had healed well and it wasn't that big. It was a mix between a sword scar (like a cut he'd do with his claymore) and a burn scar (that wasn't surprising because he used his pyro that day). But it was so clean that Diluc found himself relieved.
His thumb drew the mark slowly, the cicatricial skin rougher that the normal skin. And Kaeya opened his eyes. Two star pupils were now focused on the redhead.
He had his thumb right under the right eye, almost touching the eyelashes.
The shiver that was running through Kaeya's body stoped and he finally let him sink in the warmth, the comfort and the security his brother gave him.
"Kaeya...I know we had this conversation but still...I am so sorry for what happened. I shouldn't have react that way..and I shouldn't have hurt you the way I did."
The Khaenria'hn just stared silently at Diluc before leaning and pulling him in a hug.
"That's okay Diluc..we were both wrong...we..we were both hurting and had the worst way to deal with it..and you know what ? It doesn't matter now..because now..now you're here, now you know the consequences of your actions and so do I. But...the uncertainty between us, the guilt that took over us for years, won't fade away just like that..we..we will have to fight for that, but I won't be fighting alone and you too. We are now together and I won't leave you so..I just hope you won't leave me when the day will come for me to face my destiny."
Diluc stayed quiet as he listened to Kaeya's speech. He gave back the hug, holding Kaeya so hard, as if his life was in danger and the only thing that could save him was that hug. And maybe it was the case. Maybe the only one who could save Diluc from the crippling guilt and sadness, was Kaeya. And maybe the one who could save Kaeya from his fate and his thoughts, was Diluc.
Maybe the both could save each other but didn't know it at the time being.
"I won't leave you ever again. I made a mistake once, I won't do it again."
They both smiled as they steped back from the hug.
As Diluc stood up to take his coat that had fallen onto the floor, Kaeya left his eyepatch on the bed to watch Diluc walking to the window.
"You know, there is a door to leave my room."
"No one saw me coming in. I won't let them see me coming out. Besides, I don't want to have to deal with knights. One is enough for the time being."
"I could report you for being The Darknight Hero."
"You wouldn't dare."
Kaeya rose an eyebrow, his eyes burning with challenge. "You really think so ?"
"You don't want me imprisoned."
"You do have a point."
"I'll take my leave now. Take care of you, don't drink too much and go to sleep, a real sleep." Diluc opened the window and put his coat on.
"I could say the same for you, without the drinking part."
"Yes you could, but I have maids that would knock me down if that meant I would sleep for ten hours. And you don't have maids. So it's my duty to remind you to go to bed for once. Last time I found you sleeping on a couch with a child in your arms."
"Well, you joined us." Kaeya replied with a smile. He crossed his arms and waited for the next round. But Diluc just sighed in disapproval and waved his hand.
"Indeed. Sleep well Kaeya. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Have a good night too Diluc. Be careful on you way to the Winery, the monsters are out the night."
"They are out at any time."
"You understood what I said. Now go before I push you out."
Like the wind, Diluc was gone in a blink, leaving Kaeya smiling. He leaned to grab his eyepatch and threw it on the table.
Maybe he will wear it less.
