The Dream of a New Home
A massive wave surged over me and pushed me deeper into the dark, furious ocean. Not again! This had happened countless times. I am very close to drowning. I have no idea where I am. But that doesn’t matter, and neither does my life. Just before I feel like my lungs are going to explode, my blowhole emerges from the choppy waves. I spray water from my blowhole and take many big breaths. Then…you know what happened. This cycle of frustration and relief continued until the sun rose.
When the waves calmed down, I rested with one eye open for a while. My dreams were of a strange land, where the sea is cold and full of these little black and white dolphins, not of my species. I saw penguins with yellow eyes and crests. The most unusual thing was that there were no dolphin hunters. One of those small dolphins said to me, “Come and live here!” Then I opened my other eye, and I was floating near a sandy island lined with coconut trees. This was much more beautiful than the place I saw in my dream. I’ll ignore that stupid dolphin and live here. Besides, dreams aren’t real! Not long after I woke up, I felt starving. I didn’t just want food; I needed it, right now. I darted into an unfortunate school of fish and swallowed fifteen of them. Then another hungry creature, a great white shark, appeared out of the coral reef. I jumped so high it felt I was flying! It was an awesome feeling, but I soon I plummeted back into the crystal-clear water. I leaped into the air many times to escape from the shark’s fearsome teeth. Soon, it figured out what I trying to do. It lunged towards me. Oh no, this shark is going to kill me… But it missed, and landed on a human’s boat! It struggled to get back into the sea and tried to attack the people on board. I just thought, Haha you dumb shark! That is hilarious! I glided away to the horizon, hoping to find a Bottlenose dolphin pod I could join. I’m sure the dolphins here will welcome me into their pod.
