        Logan smiled as he stepped into his backyard.

        It was a nice day, the sun shining cheerfully and warming the boy to his bones, yet the sweet, faint wind that rustled his hair kept him cool. He sighed happily and looked around at the green, grassy, peaceful field.

        Then the whimper of an animal in distress pierced the air.

        Logan's head snapped around. Lying on it's side, a little ways away from where Logan was standing, was a black creature, easily as big as Logan himself was.

        The boy approached it slowly. He knelt at it's side, and on closer inspection, the animal appeared to be or resemble an emaciated black wolf. Logan instantly felt sorry for the poor creature. It's skeleton jutted painfully out of it's likely once-beautiful black coat, so clearly that it might've been a long-dead corpse. But it wasn't. It was breathing faintly in short, labored breaths, and it whimpered softly and pathetically as Logan examined it.

       His gaze traveled to the wolf's eyes, and he leapt back. Where a normal wolf would have one eye, this one had three, all milky white, slightly glowing, and unfocused.

       After standing as still as stone in shock for a moment, Logan came to his senses a little. This wolf clearly wasn't actually a wolf. What it was, though, was beyond him.

        The creature let out another pitiful whine.

        Logan cautiously crept towards it again, sinking to his knees. He stroked the animal's fur gently, looking at it's strange three eyes in awe. The wolf looked up at him and locked eyes with him. He felt a strange sensation, like his ribs were being constricted and he was floating away from his body at the same time.

        The wolf's body dissolved, but it's glowing eyes stayed burned into his mind. He heard a dark, echoing voice resonate through his skull, down his spine, through his entire body.

        "Thank you."
