"Run, Marie!" I shouted over my lungs as we tore down the streets, our steps quick and loud. Behind her we were being chased by creatures that I once thought were human, but had quickly proved that they were nothing from this world.

My friend looked up at me with a horrified look. "I can't go any faster!" she screeched over the sound behind us. She didn't want to die, but she didn't want to keep running either.

My own heart pounded against my own chest. Proving that I was just as terrified as she was. "You have to!," I wouldn't let her stop here and die. That couldn't happen. I wouldn't lose anyone else. Not if I can help it. "Do you want to be killed!?"

Marie shook her head with a moments hesitation. "No!" she responded to me as we continued to run down the rain covered street.

I rounded the corner, Marie being the closest to me, got there second. That's when I heard the ear piercing scream of one of our classmates, followed by another. Immediately, I turned around at the horror, running back.

"Someone! Help!" Penny, a brunette haired girl, not much younger than me screamed as the aliens jumped upon her. I knew there was nothing I could do. She continued to scream and thrash as the creatures began to tear at her skin with sounds that I can't even begin to describe. Blood splattered on the street, only to be washed away with the downpour. Another student met the same fate.

I turned away from the gruesome scene. "We have to go before more come!" I said, taking charge for the time being. Already, I heard the sound of claws against pavement. With no hesitation, we took off. Eager to put the distance between us and the aliens.

Life as we once knew it was over. Now we only had to worry about one thing. Staying alive.

It was a normal school day when the sirens rung out...
