Q and A

Oak sat with Fabian in his office. "So, questions?" He smiled at his mate.

Fabian was surprised when he woke up in Oak's bed. Their bed. He was surprised they made it from the couch. They loved each other in bed all night and most of the morning between meals. Oak had emails to catch up on. He had a lot of work to do but his people were being patient. They knew how it was to find a mate.

Fabian laughed. "So many questions! Okay. I want to start with Dare. He calls you father?"

Oak nodded. "This is a different term than humans use or hunters. This means that I am his teacher. His... as in professor."

"He is an Alpha-in-training and the only one that will call me Father. Rush calls me Sir out of respect. He's mated to my daughter. I'm her dad. My children call me dad and my grandchildren call me grandfather. The rest of the pack calls me Alpha or Sir but those are formal. Most just call me Oak, even my children."

"What do I call you?" Fabian was curious.

"Whatever you want to call me, Fabian." He smiled at his mate. "Oh, my whole name is Okeanos Canyon Sandoval."

Fabian smiled. "I love your whole name! Okeanos! That is awesome!" Fabian sighed. "I don't have a middle name. Hunters just have a first name and our family name."

Oak stared. "No middle name! We will have to find a name for you." He was making that his mission. "Fabian Wood... I think we know why."

"Why?" Fabian stared.

Oak laughed. "Wood... It's another word that means penis?"

"It is!" Fabian stared at Oak. "No way! It does not! How?"

Oak laughed and covered his face. He watched Fabian look so innocent. "Fabian. Because they get as hard as wood?"

Fabian just stared some more. "Oh! I would have never... no! I'm not using that as my middle name." He blushed and laughed.

Oak chuckled. "Okay. You are saying no to wood. Fine." They both laughed at the infantile joke. Oak cleared his throat. "Polaris would be perfect." He was settled on it. "Fabian Polaris Sandoval."

"Why?" Fabian wanted a reason.

"Because Polaris is the north star." Oak stopped like that was enough of a reason. Fabian stared. "Okay, you need more."

"Sailors used stars as their map. They used Polaris as a guiding star to get anywhere. It was the brightest and it was constant. It never moved. They could find that one and find any consolation after that. It was their way home."

"Oh, Oak!" Fabian was moved. "That is..." He wiped a tear.

Oak smiled as he stood and walked to Fabian. "You know you are my Polaris." He kissed his man.

Fabian wiped a tear as they melted together. "No one ever made me cry before!" He wiped his face. "I feel stupid!"

Oak shook his head and looked into his mate's eyes. "No way. I am happy that you were that touched, Fabian. I meant it."

"I know but... how did you even come up with that! That was just the sweetest thing. I'm going to be ruined for anyone else." Fabian paused. "Not that it matters now but..."

Oak smiled at his mate. "I want to spend the rest of my life spoiling you, Lover, in every way. Even through words."

Fabian nodded. "Okay!" Oak's office phone rang.

Oak touched Fabian's face then walked to the phone. "This is Oak." He paused for a moment. "Oh, Sir. Hold on, he's right here, actually." He looked at Fabian. "Lukas."

"Shit! I forgot to call my uncle and check in!" He was supposed to check in twelve hours after he got there and it's been two days. He took the receiver. "Uncle Lukas!"

"Fabian! Where in the hell have you been! I was freaking out. I sent emails and called. I texted and called your video like ten times!" Lukas was panicked.

"I'm fine. I'm sorry. I forgot my phone last night and it was dead most of today. I'm charging it now. I'm sorry. Everything is fine. The rogue was not a rogue." Fabian sighed. Lukas would hate this.

"What? Where are you now? Are you finished there?" His uncle was curious. If he knew that the situation was defused then he should be gone and he's still in the Alpha's office. Lukas had questions.

Fabian cleared his throat. He realized he was scared to tell Lukas. His uncle was not going to like this. "Uh, that is complicated."

"Fabian?" Lukas was getting mad. This was not like his nephew.

Oak was beside Fabian and took the receiver for a moment. He wanted to try to help. "Lukas, this is Oak Sandoval. How are you?" Oak sat with Fabian.

"I'm better now. Fabian is okay?" Lukas had to get a second opinion.

"He's just fine. No harm has come to him and I'm sorry you were worried. Uh, we have things to discuss. Is there any way that you can come here?" Oak was curious and would love to meet him in person.

"Uh, not right now, no. Why?" Lukas was worried.

"Well, I would like to say things to you in person." Oak touched Fabian's hand with his finger and got goosebumps.

"Just tell me." Lukas had no idea. "Did Fabian break a law?"

Oak laughed. "No. He's mated to a wolf here." He put the phone on speaker and set the receiver down. He touched his hand to Fabian's hand.

Lukas was silent.

"Uncle?" Fabian had no clue what his reaction would be. Lukas started laughing.

"What are you talking about? Fabian's a hunter not a werewolf and he's a prude if I ever met one. I mean it. He never takes time off or dates. I set him up with tons of women and never. Nothing. No attractions. He's a dedicated hunter that never even takes a vacation!" Lukas thought this was funny. "How could he be mated to a werewolf?"

Fabian sighed. "It's true. I am mated. I can't change it, Lukas. It's nothing like what we thought it was. It's powerful."

"Powerful? How so?" Lukas sighed. "Can you give me an example?"

"Well, my mate..." Fabian inhaled, "is a male wolf." He closed his eyes.

"What? Did you say a male wolf? What? Are you telling me that you are gay?" Lukas was floored.

Fabian sighed. "No. I'm not gay, Lukas. This is super complicated. I don't fully understand it but I'm not gay. He is just my mate or I'm his mate." He shrugged.

"So, you don't have sex with a mate?" Lukas was lost.

"Uh, why?" Fabian was lost.

"You said you weren't gay so does that mean there's no sex?" Lukas was trying to grasp this. He didn't agree with being attracted to the opposite sex, necessarily.

"No, we have sex, Lukas." Fabian sighed. "I have spent two days having sex with him." Fabian sighed. He was doomed. "I know how you feel about that and I'm sorry. I didn't tell you to hear you judge me. I told you so that I could be honest. I wanted to report everything."

"Who's this mate?" Lukas was so lost. This wasn't like Fabian at all. "Seriously, are you messing with me? I mean we've been hunting together for a long time, are you serious?"

Fabian nodded which was stupid. "I'm serious. I'm still working this out. I still want to hunt and I already talked to him about it. He agreed but things have to change. I'm just hunting on the East coast. I'm more centrally located. I'm staying with him." He wasn't asking.

"I don't think so, Fabian..." Lukas began.

Fabian interrupted. "I'm not asking, Lukas. This is what I'm doing. I will cover this area. The others can cover the rest of the states and Canada. Clear."

Lukas watched the light fade as the sun set. "So, you are serious?"

"Yes. Sorry for this, I am. This is nothing like what happens to us, Lukas. I saw him and knew I belonged to him. I found my home."

"That sounds cheesy! Are we even compatible with werewolves? They're not even people!" Lukas started but Fabian was pissed.

"They're more than we'll ever be. They are very loving and family oriented. We have had several family meals with his family and they were fine with us!"

"I met all kinds of people from the pack." Fabian smiled at Oak. "I'm a stranger here and they are nothing but kind and accepting!" He would defend them to the death. "I am in love."

Lukas sighed. "Well, shit! Really?"

"Really. Come and we can talk." Fabian would beg.

"I'll call back. I need to look at my schedule." Lukas sighed. Fabian was off the reservation. "Fabian?"

"Lukas. I'm fine. Great, actually. Call back." Fabian hung up. "Well, that won't go well. Where were we?"

Oak laughed. "Fabian, do you want to talk about that?"

"No. It won't change. Where were we?" Fabian watched his mate.

"Okay. How old are you?" Oak was curious.

Fabian smiled. "Twenty-five. How old are you?"

Oak laughed again. "Not twenty-five." He cleared his throat. "I'm one hundred and twenty-three."

Fabian gasped. "You are almost a hundred years older than me!" He stared.

Oak nodded. "I know. Age isn't important to us, Fabian. You are my mate and that is all that matters."

"But what happens when I grow old and die? What happens to you! We don't age fast but we still age. One hundred and fifty is it for us!" Fabian was freaking out. "I know that a werewolf's lifespan is considerable."

Oak smiled. "We will deal with that later. I'm not worried, Fabian. Now, what's your favorite food?"

Fabian looked at Oak for any look of concern and saw none. They weren't going to worry about it. "Okay? Lasagna. It's my favorite but Italian if we are going with kinds of food. You?"

Oak smiled. "Licorice." He shrugged.

Fabian laughed. "Licorice is your most favorite food? You mean, of all the food available in the world, licorice?"

"Yes. I never can get enough. I love it. Can I show you something?" Oak smiled. "Come here." He stood with Fabian and opened a drawer at his desk. It was full of licorice whips and candy bites.

"Oak!" Fabian smiled at the drawer. "I love you so much!" He tackled Oak and they fell into his chair. He kissed his mate.

Oak laughed. "Polaris. I love you!" He looked Fabian in his eyes.

Fabian nodded. "Are you changing my name?"

"I think Polaris suits you much better." Oak smiled.

"Polaris Fabian Sandoval? Sounds good." Polaris smiled. "This should be weird." He leaned in and kissed his mate and tried to love him in the chair but they fell to the soft carpet. Oak was content and Polaris nodded. He felt what Oak felt, very content.
