Dangerous Construction

Origin kissed Dare and followed Perry out of the trailer. It was a normal workday. It was raining but the construction on the outside was done enough that they would work inside today. Dare wasn't worried about Origin because he never got cold. The weather didn't matter. Vampires and werewolves were the same in that respect.

Dare was halfway through the day when he felt that something was off. He was freaking out and angry. It was something to do with Origin. Origin was freaking out and angry and this wasn't normal workday frustrations.

Dare jumped off the chair and tried to open the door. It was stuck. Someone jammed the door from the outside. He sent a message to Oak and left his phone and his clothes. He shifted and busted through the window. The big black werewolf smelled strangers. He was getting to his mate.

Someone didn't know who he was fucking with. Dare wasn't going to tolerate someone fucking with his mate. Not this time. Dare was no longer able to sit back and wait for someone else to take charge. He was taking action. He was an alpha, damn it...

Meanwhile.....

They were in the building. Origin was having a pretty productive day. They were right on schedule and he was pleased. They were walking through doing a safety check.

He loved his crew. A man walked up. He was new on the crew, a gopher. Brayden ran errands, got the coffees and lunches for the crew. He was probably just eighteen and getting some real life experience.

"Sir, Origin?" He hoped that was his real name and not a joke. "There is a man here to see you? He said you would know who he is? I don't know?"

"Did he say what his name was?" Origin was curious. The inspector wasn't due for a month.

"Uh, no. He said he knew Cosmo? He was looking for someone named Oleander? I told him that was the name of a flower but... He insisted." Brayden looked confused. "I told him to wait."

Origin looked pale. "Where is he?" He sounded pissed. Dangerous.

"Boss? Are you okay?" Perry had to ask because Origin looked different right now. He couldn't put his finger on it but he sensed danger.

"No. Take all of the men, Brayden also. Everyone and hide on the top floor. Stay hidden and don't come out until I find you. Clear." Origin watched Perry nodded. They rushed off to gather people. "This is dangerous. Just go. I'll be fine." He saw worry in Perry's eyes as he left.

Origin made it to the lobby. There were men there. Three vampires and a hunter. "What do you want here?"

"I want Oleander. He is a wolf that I tracked here." He pulled a sword.

"No one by that name is here." Origin growled. "This is my workplace. I will ask once, nicely for you to leave." He knew they weren't leaving.

"I am getting what I came for. I was paid for one wolf but I will take the other." The hunter was pissed.

"Who paid you?" Origin wanted answers.

"Who cares who paid me. Where is Oleander?"

"I want to know first."

"Fine, a wolf. He paid me good money. I killed him, or my associates did. I heard that the other wolf got away and killed my people. I want revenge and my vampires tracked him here." The hunter swung the sword.

A giant black wolf flew through the window and stood in front of Origin. He snarled. Origin smiled. "Lover, this is the hunter that killed Cosmo." Origin walked up to the werewolf and put his hand on Dare. "This is my mate, Dare."

All of the vampires and the hunter backed up. "Uh, what? You are mated to a werewolf?" He was shocked.

Origin smiled. "Guess you should know who you are fucking with." He shrugged. "Tell him what you told me." He sensed a human. Perry. "Perry, leave. It's not safe."

Perry had a gun in his hand and a shocked look on his face. "Uh, boss?" He saw Origin, his boss and friend, standing beside a huge scary monster and there were four men standing in front of them. None of them looked happy. "You look out numbered."

"I'm fine." He growled at the hunter. "Perry, please go." He turned to Perry and Perry gasped. Origin had black eyes and sharp teeth. Fangs. He sensed other vampires. Perry was in danger. "Shit! Dare, keep one."

The werewolf nodded. He was keeping the hunter.

Origin left Dare for Perry. "I won't hurt you but there are two vampires behind you that will. Stay close and don't shoot the wolf. He's mine." He pulled Perry close as three werewolves jumped in with Polaris. Origin sighed in relief.

"Don't shoot them. They are my family!" Origin took Perry's gun. "Please. Verb, can you stay with Perry. Keep him safe. Humans are on the top floor, hiding. Two vampires behind Oak and three here with this hunter."

Origin was off to fight. He jumped at a vampire and they flew out a window and into the rain. Origin hissed at the enemy as he hissed back. They wrestled and grunted as Origin picked the vampire up and slammed him into the ground. He tore his throat out. That can stop a vampire. Origin twisted his head and snapped his head from his shoulders. That can also kill a vampire. One down.

Origin was up and rushing to help his mate. One started to jump on Origin but Dare snapped him in his teeth. The attacker screamed and he was in two halves. The black wolf shook him and charged another vampire. He didn't have time to check on Origin but he knew he was alive.

Verb, a large grey wolf, stood with Perry as he watched a large white wolf kill two vampires just like the black wolf did. He shook them in half. It was more effective than a gun.

Perry stayed closer to the grey wolf. He trusted Origin and Origin knew this monster...thing. Perry was getting answers for so many questions.

Perry watched his boss, his calm boss, growl and charge a man. He flashed his teeth and the growl vibrated through the floor and Perry was scared of Origin. Origin picked up the man that growled back and smashed him into the concrete floor and it cracked all the way to the rebar. "What do you want with Oleander?"

The vampire inhaled. "We were sent to kill him. The contract was over but our boss wanted him dead. He wants revenge for Oleander killing his men. It's revenge! Either him or his mate."

Origin was pissed. "He already killed his mate, I will not allow that again!" He flashed his teeth and sunk them into the man's neck. The man screamed. Origin didn't move until there was no noise or movement.

He stood up covered in blood and snapped the man's head from his shoulders too. Clearly, an effective way to kill a vampire. Origin tore off his shirt. It had holes in it, he used it to wipe his face. The black wolf rushed to his mate and sniffed him. He ran his tongue up Origin's body. "Dare, I'm fine." He touched his mate. "Where is the hunter?"

Polaris smiled. "I have him." He was in handcuffs. "Here." He shoved him to Origin. "You can talk to the vampire."

Perry was at his shock limit until the white wolf turned into a naked man. He charged the hunter. "You have a lot of nerve entering my land without permission?" Oak was in his face.

"Sir! I was hunting. We don't need permission!" The hunter was defiant and breathless.

"No, one hunter does not but when you bring vampires with you, you do. What are you doing with vampires? What is your name?" Oak was pissed.

"I'm Brad Noonan. I use vampires in my work." He groaned as Origin held him tighter. He flashed his blood covered fangs.

"Who hired you to kill Cosmo?" Origin was asking.

"Cosmo hired me!" The hunter gasped for air.

The black wolf shifted. Perry was shocked. Dare. What in the hell? Dare was pissed. He charged the man and pulled him from Origin and slammed him to the wall. "What?" He growled and flashed wolf teeth.

"An Alpha! You are an alpha?" Brad panicked.

"I am. What do you mean, Cosmo hired you?" He growled. Oak was beside him.

"Look, I was approached by a woman. Her name was Whey. She told me that a wolf wanted to hire my services. She explained that he had no pack and couldn't live like that any longer. He was ready to die." Brad took a breath. "She said it was one wolf. Cosmo Zavola. We hunted him down by a cave outside of Quebec City and killed him like he wanted. He even verified it. Then days later this maniac showed up and killed my men. Oleander."

Dare growled. "I was Oleander. Cosmo was my mate. He never said anything about a deal. He wasn't a coward!" He wiped a tear. "Why would he leave me!"

Brad sighed. "He said anyone that was with him would have better luck getting into a pack without him."

Oak sighed. "He knew you wouldn't survive together, Dare." He relaxed.

Dare was still pissed. "You make these deals?"

"I do."

"Not anymore. If I hear that you made even a small deal like this, I will hunt you to the end of the Earth. Am I clear? You are retired. Find a nice piece of land and never let me hear your name." Dare growled at the hunter and flashed his teeth. "We are done here. If I see you again, I will kill you."

"I am sorry. I had no idea he had a mate. He paid in advance and died honorable." Brad sighed.

Dare was calm as he spoke the next words. "No, he didn't. He was a coward." He dropped Brad. "Leave." He turned and walked off. Origin wrapped around his mate and comforted him. Dare just wrapped around Origin and cried for his mate. Origin held on.

Oak had this mess handled. He didn't mind. "Now, Brad, get out of my city and don't return to this side of the states. Am I clear?"

Brad was smart and nodded. His war with Oleander was over. He had a pack to defend him and he was an Alpha. Brad wasn't messing with that. He left and never looked back. He sped out of town with his life.

"Storm, Vibe. Make sure that Brad leaves." Two werewolves, one red and one grey, rushed out of the building. The big grey one still guarded the human. Oak sighed as he looked at Polaris. "You okay?"

Polaris laughed. "I'm great. I didn't even do anything. I just put handcuffs on the hunter, Oak. I'm fine. Are you okay?" He rushed to Oak and slid his hands up his body. He leaned in so Oak could get his scent. Oak inhaled deeply and relaxed.

Oak pulled Polaris close and walked to Dare. "You okay?"

Dare nodded. He wiped his face. "That fucker! How could he..."

Oak sighed. "Dare. He did it to keep you safe. He was right. You found a pack. Alone you stood a better chance. He did it for you. I'm sorry, Son. I am."

Origin nodded. "I'm getting pants." He rushed off and was back with five pairs of scrub bottoms. Dare slid his on as he calmed down. Oak saw a group of humans watching. He knew they saw some of the fight. "Origin, you have to talk to them. Maybe clean up first?" He motioned to his face.

Origin nodded. He wiped his face the best he could. He still had blood on him but that wasn't changing. He kissed his mate and walked to the crowd. "Uh, questions?"

Perry started to laugh. "So many! What was this? What happened and what is this?" He looked at Verb who was still guarding until he was released by the Alpha.

"That is my brother, Verb. You can probably stand down, Verb. Thanks." Origin smiled. "He takes his job seriously. Oak, can you release Verb? Please."

Oak nodded. "Sorry about that. Verb, it's clear and I have pants for you."

The giant grey werewolf shifted into a tall muscular man as he walked off for pants. He slid them on and walked out to guard the perimeter.

"Uh, he is going to freeze out there!" Perry was worried. It was overcast and chilly out today and the rain was drizzling.

Origin smiled and Dare walked over. He wrapped around Origin. "He won't. He's fine." Origin looked nervous. "So, this was a small battle and I'm sorry you were here to see it. We are supposed to keep you from seeing things like that. Brad broke that law."

Oak sighed. "He did but I think he was scared enough to never do it again." He smiled at Dare and looked at the crowd. "Hello." He greeted the crowd.

Perry nodded. "Are you going to kill us?"

Origin laughed. "No!" He cleared his throat. "Sorry. No, Perry. You are my people. My friends and employees. So, I'm a vampire. This is my husband, Dare. I think you all met him. I'm his mate. He is a werewolf."

Perry nodded. "Makes sense!"

Oak chuckled. "I'm their Alpha. Their leader. We have protected this area for a long time. That was what this was. I'm sorry that you were here to witness it. I apologize. It's our job to keep you safe and unaware and we failed today."

Perry smiled. "But you kept us safe, Sir. I was standing beside that Werewolf? And never felt safer. So you didn't fail. Thank you! I would have been killed without that werewolf." He couldn't believe he said that sentence and didn't laugh.

"That was Verb. It's his job and he is very good. He is my guard." Oak smiled. He pulled Polaris close. "This is my mate, Polaris. He is a hunter also. He held the hunter that was being questioned." He turned to Polaris. "Did you know him?"

"I didn't. I have never heard of anyone making deals like that and I disagree with them!" Polaris sighed.

Perry watched them. "So, you're not a werewolf?"

"No. I'm a hunter. We are like police for the supernatural. We keep them in check. We prevent these situations from getting worse." Polaris sighed. "Brad was like a dirty cop."

Origin sighed. "What now? This day is shot. We have a lot of clean up to do too."

"Boss, we can help with that. If you don't mind." Perry spoke but they all nodded. "You protected us and well, you scared the shit out of us as well." Everyone nodded and smiled.

Origin nodded. "I'm sorry. I was protecting my mate."

Dare leaned in. "You did an amazing job and you should never wear a shirt!" He smiled and inhaled his mate.

"Easy. We have work to do. Origin, call your brother and tell him we're fine. He's with Lukas at the house." Oak smiled.

"On it." Origin grabbed his phone and walked outside to call Cedar.

Oak hugged Dare. "Thanks for the tip. That was brilliant."

"I knew something was wrong because they locked me inside the trailer. They were silent too. I felt something was wrong with Origin. I had to dive through a window." He looked around. "There is a lot to repair!" He looked around at the destruction.

Oak sighed. "I know. The inspector is due in four weeks."

"Sir, I can work weekends until we are caught up." One man in the back raised his hand.

Dare watched the human. "Really? You would do that?"

"For Origin, yes. He is a good boss. My wife had some medical issues last year and he gave me time off with pay. He didn't have to." The man watched Dare.

"Us too." Another man smiled. "When we got married, Origin paid for the honeymoon." He wrapped around another man.

Origin was back. "That was a secret!" He glared at the man. "Josh, that was supposed to be a secret."

Dare smiled. "You knew they were gay?"

"Yes but I was in the closet. Shut up." Origin glared at Dare.

Perry smiled. "You're sneaky, Boss. So, it's settled. We are helping."

Oak smiled. "I am making a call." He walked off and Verb followed him.

"Origin, I can pitch in also." Polaris smiled. "I did some concrete work a long time ago."

Origin smiled. "Thanks, Sir."

Perry raised his hand. "So? How is everyone related?"

Dare smiled. "Origin is my mate. Oak is our Alpha. Polaris, here, is our Beta, Oak's husband. Verb, the grey wolf and the two that took off... Vibe and Storm, they are the Alpha's guards."

Origin smiled. "Oak is my grandfather."

Perry smiled. "Cool. Are you, like, royalty?"

Origin shook his head. "No!"

Oak walked in. "I got some help from another pack. They also have some men in construction and they offered to work nights." He wrapped around Polaris.

"So, are you like their... Captain?" Perry was curious.

Dare smiled. "He is our king, Perry. He rules us."

Oak smiled. "Dare will rule half of my kingdom one day. He is an Alpha, king in training."

Perry smiled. "Origin, you bagged yourself royalty!"

Origin laughed. "That is what you are taking away from today?" They all chuckled as Origin heard thunder.
