At Home
Polaris was surprised that they were on time for dinner. Oak did a magnificent job of keeping his mind off of his uncle. He didn't give him a thought for several hours. He was starving as they sat at the dinner table. He began to worry because Origin, Dare and Lukas were missing.
Dare walked in and almost tripped with Lukas wrapped around him. Origin was on Lukas' other side, holding them both up. Origin chuckled. "Well, we made it." He sat them down and sat beside Dare. "Sorry we're a little late."
"Are they drunk?" Oak stared at the obviously drunk men.
Origin nodded as Dare laughed. "Sorry, Sir." He tried not to laugh. Lukas just nodded too much.
"We took Lukas on a tour of the city. Uh, they were getting to know each other." Origin explained with a smile.
Lukas smiled. "Oak, your people are amazing. It might be the booze talking but this is the most fun I have ever had!"
Alanis smiled. "Are you hungry?"
"I could eat that rabbit!" Lukas froze. "What in the hell? Am I hallucinating?" He stared at Bugs. He was on the floor under Gideon's chair.
Gideon laughed. "This is Bugs. He's my familiar."
"Right. You're a witch. Got it. Sorry, I really wouldn't eat your familiar bunny!" Lukas chuckled for a while.
Dare laughed and covered his face. He slowly calmed down. "Polaris, your uncle knows how to drink!"
"That is something I didn't know!" Polaris smiled. "Uh, are you okay, Lukas?"
"I might be. I really met half of your pack in the city. Some of them went drinking with us. We went bar hopping. It's when you go from bar to bar and drink. I didn't know that was a thing! So fun!" Lukas chuckled. "I may never leave."
Polaris sighed. "I think that is the booze talking, Uncle."
Lukas' head snapped up. "That is the first time that you've called me uncle since I got here, Polaris!"
"Sorry. I'm not myself, I guess." Polaris sighed. Oak pulled him close and smelled his hair. He touched his face. "Thanks, Oak."
Oak smiled. "Absolutely, always." He kissed him softly. Cedar cleared his throat. "Uh, food?" He was passing the tray.
Polaris smiled. "Later. Eat. I know you are starving." He touched Oak's face with his hand. "Later."
Oak growled. "Husband, you are good to me." Oak melted but managed to take the tray and put meat on his plate and his mate's plate.
Everyone was quiet through dinner and he knew that the alcohol was wearing off. Alanis and Rain brought dessert and coffee for the two that were hung over.
"Rain, thanks." Dare sighed. He was quiet and sipped his coffee.
"Dare, you are welcome. Good to see you making friends." She winked and sat beside Cedar.
Dare just chuckled and sipped his coffee.
"This was unprofessional and I am sorry, Oak." Lukas sighed.
Oak smiled. "No, Lukas. I'm so glad you got to meet some of our people. Are you okay?"
Lukas nodded. "This food is delicious. Thanks." He looked at Alanis. She nodded.
"Oak, I wasn't when Origin and Dare knocked on my door. I was pissed. They talked to me and asked me to go get one drink and Origin promised I could kill him if I didn't enjoy myself. Well, I can't kill him plus, I actually like him." He smiled at Origin.
"I am pretty great!" Origin smiled.
Oak smiled. "He got a whole pack of werewolves to love him and take him in and he got a werewolf to marry him."
Lukas laughed. "Now, he has a hunter for a friend. He is diabolical."
Dare laughed. "He is shameless."
Origin leaned into Dare and inhaled his hair. "I am." He kissed his mate and smiled.
Dare touched Origin's face. He turned to Polaris. "We talked about you too. It was a good afternoon. What did you guys do?"
Oak smiled. "Well, we analyzed the thickness of that carpet in my office."
"All afternoon?" Origin glared.
Polaris blushed. "Yes. It's softer than our bed!"
"I'm having that carpet installed in our room!" Oak smiled.
They all laughed. Rain enjoyed the feelings from everyone. She leaned into Cedar and sighed. Cedar smelled her hair and whispered to her quietly. He was telling her what he was planning when they got home.
Gideon had to ask. "So, Lukas. What are your plans?"
Lukas shrugged. "I have absolutely no idea. Uh, I was thinking about staying for the week, if that is okay? I don't want to overstay my welcome."
Gideon smiled. "I don't think that Alanis and Rain know what that means. Please, stay as long as you need. I know this is a weird situation."
"I'm meeting some officials tomorrow, would you like to join us?" Oak watched Lukas.
"Uh, really?" Lukas stared.
"Yes. The mayor and the police chief. We are having lunch and I am introducing my husband to them. I think the mayor of Pittsburgh is coming as well. Come. Please." Oak smiled. "They would love to meet you. You are the leader of the hunters on this side of the states."
Lukas sighed. "Actually, I'm not." He looked at Polaris. "Fab...Polaris is. I was just filling so he could hunt. I was taking this month and next month was his. We switched off."
Oak looked at Polaris. "You are the leader of the hunters in this area?"
Polaris nodded. "Yes?"
Oak growled. "That is hot!" He leaned into his mate and kissed him passionately.
Origin smiled. "Well, we may have lost them." Dare laughed.
Dare had a thought. "Lukas, have you heard of a wolf named Cosmo?"
Lukas shook his head. "Doesn't sound familiar. Cosmo? No. I would remember that name. It's a strange name. Who is that?"
Dare explained why he asked. Lukas wiped a tear. "I am so sorry, Dare. I really am. I have never made a deal with hunters like that!"
Dare nodded. "Great. I will never find the hunter."
"What will you do if you find him? Or her?" Lukas had to ask.
"I actually don't know. My first thought was to kill them but there has been too much blood shed. I just want some answers. I don't think anyone else should die. There is so much I don't understand."
Oak detached himself from his mate. "So, you were in charge of the hunters. What is that title?"
"I am the Director of Logistics. It's my title. I'm good at it but I love to hunt. I'm also good at that. I said this was complicated. It's a reason that Lukas is so upset. He doesn't want the position." Polaris sighed.
Lukas sighed. "I don't. I was happy to share it with you. Actually, I would love to get out of hunting and do something else. Let the new generation take over. It's how it's done. I am ready to retire."
"How old are you?" Oak was curious.
Lukas smiled. "Seventy. I just turned Seventy. You?"
Oak smiled. "One hundred and twenty-three."
Lukas nodded. "I see. I knew you were older because you are well established here. You are a legend."
Oak laughed. "Sure. Thanks. I just watch out for my people. Dare is learning and he will take part in this when he is ready."
"You are giving up half of your kingdom?" Lukas was serious.
Oak smiled. "I am. Part of it already belongs to Dare. So do my people. When he is ready, those that are ready, they will go with him. They will know who they are. It's instinct, Lukas. I love Dare like a son. He is an Alpha and those are rare. I want to teach him. He is coming to the lunch also."
Dare nodded. He already knew that. "Sir."
Oak smiled at Dare. He was always so formal and respectful. "You do know that you are the only one to call me sir? Rush does at times."
Dare nodded again. "I know, Sir. I can't make it stop.... Sir."
Oak laughed. "Okay. I am going home and letting my husband have his way with me!" He stood up with Polaris. "See you all at breakfast." He pulled Polaris close and they left.
Oak was impressed that they were on time for breakfast. He pulled out Polaris's chair. They sat together and Polaris poured Oak's coffee. Polaris yawned and sipped his coffee.
Cedar smiled. "Are you awake, Polaris?"
Polaris smiled at Cedar. "Had a late night." He looked at his plate.
Origin stared. "But you left before we did last night?"
Lukas was also interested. "What did you do last night?"
Oak laughed. "Do you want to know?"
Dare chuckled. "I do now!"
Polaris just about climbed into his coffee cup. Oak smelled his hair. "We went to the forest. I shifted and ran and my hunter mate hunted for me. It was so hot!"
Lukas stared. "You played hide and seek?"
Polaris laughed. "I guess so. Hide and seek that ended with hot sex in the river! I caught him there."
"Yes, you did!" Oak pulled Polaris in for a long slow kiss. They wrapped around each other.
Origin smiled and leaned into Dare. "We are doing that soon! Dare has hunted me through the house but not in the woods!"
Dare just laughed. "Shut up!"
Origin chuckled.
Lukas smiled. "Sounds hot! I have to find a woman."
Origin smiled. "Maybe find yourself a wolf!"
Lukas shook his head. "I'm not that open-minded!"
Cedar and Gideon chuckled. Gideon sighed. "Not yet anyway. Oak wasn't into men until he met Polaris."
Oak nodded. "True. Being mated really messes you up!"
Lukas gasped. "You weren't gay?"
Oak laughed. "No! I had a mate and she was wonderful. I never thought about a man before. As soon as Polaris walked into my office, it was all I thought about."
Polaris nodded. "Same here. I never thought about men."
Lukas glared. "You never thought about women either, Polaris."
"True." Polaris sighed. He never thought about anyone. "Now, Oak is all I think about."
Origin smiled. "It shows too."
"All I think about is Origin. It's a problem." Dare smiled and leaned into his mate and breathed in his scent.
Oak nodded as they all finished breakfast. They had a meeting to get ready for. Dare had to call Vibe for the meeting. He wouldn't be happy knowing Dare went alone, even though he wasn't alone. Vibe had a job.
