Storm.
There's something quite nice about rainstorms
Outside my window at eleven p.m.
The sound of it hitting the neighbours' driveway
And the flash of its blinding companion.
A few seconds later comes lightning's constant partner,
Its angry rumble hitting the earth like a punch.
The thunder echoes inside me, and though it's frightening
As I fall towards sleep, I use it for comfort.
Like a teddy bear,
My nighttime friend,
Thunder keeps me warm on the inside and out;
My cuddlebug,
A reminder that tomorrow will come.
And it will be calm,
And peaceful,
And warm
And tomorrow will be filled with colour
The remnants of a rainbow I'll be too asleep to see.
The storm sweeps me through sleep,
And straight to the beautiful morning.
