Frank's POV

I wait near the entrance of the small restaurant, taking in all the smells of everyone else's half-devoured pizzas.

The bell dings, marking the arrival of a new customer. Out of habit, I look to the glass door to see who's there. I smile when I see him.

"Gerard," I greet, waving him over. He notices me and nears. "What's up?"

"Uh, just getting something to eat."

"Yeah. Wanna sit together? Not that many tables open." We looked around, confirming my statement. All but one of the dirty wooden tables were taken.

"Sure. I'm gonna go put in my order, I'll meet you there."

I nod and we go our separate ways. He comes back shortly with a receipt and sits down across from me.

"What'd you get?" I ask.

"Cheese."

"Boring," I tease him.

He laughs and I smile at the sound.

"Oh yeah? What'd you get?"

"Veggie."

He makes a face of slight disgust and confusion. "Weirdo."

"Hey! Shut up, I'm a vegetarian," I smile and shrug, tapping a quarter on the table.

"Frank Iero?" a lady calls out. I sigh.

"What was that sigh for?" Gerard asks.

"She mispronounced my last name," I respond, scoffing a bit, before getting up to grab my food.

I thank the lady with a fake smile plastered on my face and carry the delicious-looking pizza back to the table. Gerard ordered not long after me, so I suspect that his will be done soon.

I pick up a slice, the gooey cheese sticking, and take a big bite. It's hot in my mouth and burns my tongue. I start fanning my mouth with my hand and Gerard laughs.

"Shut up," I say with a full mouth.

"Jared Way?"

I almost choke on my pizza. I swallow and start laughing. Gerard glares at me.

"Sorry, Jared," I joke. He kicks me under the table and gets up to get his food.

"Not a word out of you. Just eat your food, Iero," he warns, mispronouncing my name.

~~~
"Is that your ride?" I ask, pointing at the grey bike parked in front of the building.
"Uh, yeah."
"Dude, you live like half an hour away," I note. He just shrugs in response. I sigh and walk over to his bike, picking it up and carrying it to my car. I'm using my friend's Jeep, which conveniently has a bike rack on the back.
"Uh, what're you doing?"
"I'm driving you home," I said, matter-of-factly, "c'mon, get in." I open the passenger-side door and wait. He looks dumbfounded for a moment, but eventually gives in and gets in. I close the door after him and walk around the car to my seat.
"How do you even reach the pedals with those short legs?" Gerard starts to laugh. I scowl at him.
"Milkshakes!" I announce suddenly, seeing the illuminated sign. I swerve into the turning lane, driving into the drive-through.
"Wha--" Gerard starts to say. I shush him as we approach the window.
"Hi! Can I get two milkshakes -- vanilla... and oreo -- and a large container of fries, please and thanks," I say excitedly.
"Of course. That'll be seven dollars up at the second window, please," the lady says through the speaker. Gerard sends me a confused look but I only smile in return.
We get our food and I pay, thanking the lady. I hand Gerard the oreo milkshake and put the fries between us by the cupholders, where I put my own drink, after taking a sip.
"You gotta stop buying me stuff," Gerard says softly. I scoff.
Buildings morph into trees as I detour into a wood, trying to get to the ridge to see the sunset with Gerard. He finally gives up on asking questions and just looks out the window, enjoying the scenery. I look over at him to see him resting his chin on his hand, lips curled upward. When I stop the car, he looks over to me and then outside, taking in the sights.
He sighs pleasantly and I step outside with my drink and the fries, hopping onto the grass with him following closely behind.
"Wow. Is this the magic spot? Where you bring all your hot dates to make out?" He teases.
"Nah, just you," I shoot back, turning around and winking. His lips part a bit and he smiles a bit awkwardly and chuckles.
I reach the end of the cliff at a jog and sit down, legs swinging off the edge. Gerard stands behind me. I look back to him and notice the slight fear in his eyes. I sigh and extend my arm, taking his hand in my own. It's soft against my rough callused skin. He jumps a bit but settles down next to me, crossing his legs. We don't let go of each other. It sends goosebumps up my arm.
"So," Gerard starts to say as he reaches over and grabs a fry, dipping it in his milkshake and taking a bite, "ya like jazz?"
Neither of us can keep a straight face.
"But actually though," he says, "what's your thing with oreos?"
I shrug, weighing my options.
"What's your thing with oreos?" I shoot back. Gerard looks confused, so I continue. "I mean, I remember you begging for oreos a while back." His smirk fades a bit and his eyebrows scrunch up.
"What?"
"You texted me, saying you wanted oreos. Remember?"
The colour drains from his face and he gasps.
"Wh— how—" he stutters, trying to understand, "you knew?"
"Of course I knew. It would be kind of impossible for two people as amazing as you to come into my life."
He still looks dumbstruck, but a slight blush floods his cheeks.
"Oh calm down, Lee," I laugh, looking to the sky.
"How did you— when—"
"Since that day you found those lyrics on your desk. I wrote them. Connecting the dots wasn't very hard after that."
My heart pounds as I wait for a response of some sort. After a few moments, Gerard clears his throat.
"Damn," he whispers and starts to laugh. "Well I feel like an idiot now." I join in on the laughs. "You are just full of surprises, aren't you?"
"Oh, I've got plenty more up my sleeve," I say, smirking.
"Oh yeah? Like what?"
I look at Gerard. He looks ahead to the setting sun, which casts a beautiful orange-pink light on his face, highlighting his face perfectly. He licks his milkshake-covered lips.
I reach my free hand out and turn his head towards mine. I lick my lips and smile a bit.
"Like this," I whisper, leaning in.
His lips are unbelievably soft and his breath is hot on my skin. My own lips seem to work with their own mind, moving against his. At first, he just sits there, stunned, but quickly eases into the kiss. I slide my hand into his hair and down to his neck, still not letting go of his hand with my other. His free hand grips onto my arm. We move in sync. His eyelashes flutter against my skin, sending sparks through my body. I can't help but smile against him, and so does he, causing our teeth to bump into each other, making us smile even more.
The kiss seemed to have lasted two seconds and two hours at the same time. Either way, it ends. I let out a breath I didn't know I had been holding in and smile uncontrollably. I open my eyes to see Gerard still holding his own closed, a smile plastered on his face. I lick my lips, trying to feel the kiss again. I taste chocolate and cream. He finally opens his eyes and smiles even bigger once he sees me.
It was different; probably because I had never kissed a boy before.
"Wow," he whispers. I nod.
"Well, now I feel bad. Our first date was pizza and milkshakes. Don't worry, next time'll be better," I say, winking. His blush deepens.
"Next time?"
"Hell yeah, Way."
"Can't wait," he says, winking back, "and for the record— I thought this was perfect."
