PART TWO

2.

With an earlier thought of boys, and all that may or may not come with that, there was one boy in library who Judy would take notice of as soon as she entered. He is more or less the same age as her, maybe only just a little bit older. He'd be of similar height to her; maybe he is a little taller. His hair is a dark blond, perhaps a little darker than hers, and unlike her, his hair is short-ish and slightly curly. He is wearing glasses that have a thin dark frame and with one finger he glides them back towards his eyes from having had them sitting on the end of his nose.

Maybe this boy has a reason for being in the library too, maybe he also has a reason to lose himself in something a little ... out there ... though at this particular moment, he is stacking shelves and arranging books rather than choosing one to read. He looks as if he were not just some kind of a school librarian but also a guardian, a protector or gatekeeper perhaps. Of course, maybe he too has a love of fiction, a love of becoming lost in another world or indeed just has a general position of looking after the library but maybe something like fate is playing a part with him being in such a place at such a moment.

The strong sunlight shines through the open venetian blinds that dress each of the five library windows and an orange glow fills the room, a glow which adds an element of the surreal to this moment. The room is long and rectangular with those windows being on one of the longer sides and opposite to the room's entrance. Beyond the entrance is of course, a corridor, as is also how it is beyond the other two walls. Only one side of the room connects with the great outdoors.

Despite the present surreal feeling, there is nothing special about the right here and the right now, this is at least what Judy tells herself. It's just like being anywhere else at any given moment. Sure, how could one really know about such a thing?

Nothing special in the here and now, nothing special in the past, nothing special ever happens to Judy, so, ... yeah. This is something that needs to change. Who says it won't? And Judy has no idea as to what she is in for. How could she have idea of what is to come? No one knows the future. For one thing in right here and right now, Judy is not as invisible as she thinks she is.

Despite her normal general demeanour being on display and actually drawing attention, along with the fact that she has only been in the library a matter of seconds, Judy smiles and tries to appear as if she hasn't noticed this boy at all, though he has noticed her and has noticed that she has looked his way. She moves to the closest bookshelves to her, not really paying attention to what kind of books these books she has come to, may be.

'Can I help you?' he asks of her as she reaches for a book, no specific book in particular and he having moved to her at a speed with which she could not have avoided him, if such a thing could have taken her.

Having reached said non-specific book but not having grasped it properly and being caught off guard by the fact that someone, anyone, let alone this particular boy, has talked to her, the book falls to the ground. Judy, after a second or two, moves down on her hunkers to pick up this book and this particular boy just so happens to do the exact same thing at the exact same time and the two accidently clunk heads.

They had unintentionally come together so quickly. If one were to look too deeply into this, then one might think that there is something more than meets the eye to this moment. Perhaps there is something more. If there were that something more, then neither could possibly see its full extent.

'Ow' she says moving back a little, placing a hand on her head and catching her balance.

'Oh, I am sorry, I didn't mean to ....'

She stands and so do he. He has the book.

'It's alright, no harm done' she says.

'My name is Oliver.'

This makes her smile, and the smile makes her feel a little less awkward and a little more awkward both at the same time.

'I'm Judy.'

'Nice to meet you, Judy.'

Judy begins to feel that the little more awkward side of things is winning out, so she diverts her glance then begins to move away and towards the library exit and in a kind of strange way, she is almost glad to have had the moment of clunking heads happen. It has the most contact she has had with anyone in a long time who isn't her mother, not so much the actual clunking that is but the whole moment of interaction.

'Don't you want your book?' he asks calling after her. 'There would be no hurry to return it, you can hold onto it for as long as you like.'

With a smile on her face, she turns back, takes the book, pauses for a moment and then quickly vacates the library. Oliver, yeah maybe Judy really is not as invisible as she thought she was. Now isn't that a nice thought. It is to her. Even nicer, how a simple moment can really improve things so much despite how quickly such a moment had passed. Yeah, it is odd, strange and nice all at the same time.

An impact has been made, so much so that Judy even greets her mum with a kiss on the cheek upon arriving home. She does love her mum of course, though that kind of greeting and any kind of show of affection are such which do not come around so often. How mum would love more moments like that one.

'Looks like someone had a good day, huh?'

'It was fine mom' speaks Judy as a smile once more takes a hold on her face, a smile which is more than infectious, and a pleasant tone too lets mum know that she shouldn't imply anything. Yeah, the smile is infectious for mum has one of her own now too.

The conversation during dinner is a little livelier and not so one sided as the breakfast time conversation had been and despite how much she would like, Judy does not completely divulge how her day went. Soon enough though, Judy retreats to her room where she takes a moment or two to stare out the window and daydream. She has that library book with her; the daydream comes to an end it is time to begin delving into a dream of another kind.
