Lions
"Princess, you must eat something, it has been 10,000 years." Coran pleaded with the princess.
"I'm not hungry," Allura said stubbornly.
"Man, 10,000 years? That's like, one thousand plus ten." I facepalmed at Lance's statement.
"That's times ten," Keith and I chorused.
"Whatever dropout."
"I haven't eaten since breakfast and I'm starving," Hunk commented, holding his stomach.
"Yeah, but you've thrown up, like, five times." Pidge pointed out.
"They've got you there," I added.
Hunk picked up a handful of the goo currently resting in a dish floating in front of him and shoving it in his mouth. He made a face and I snickered.
"I can't believe your civilization created such advanced technology 10,000 years ago," Shiro said, looking around.
"Believe it," I said, patting him on the shoulder. "The Fleetwings were much more advanced than this while your planet had dinosaurs."
"It must've been an incredible place." Shiro continued.
"Yes, it was, but now it is gone, and we're the last Alteans alive. The Fleetwing homeworld is beautiful too." Coran agreed, looking a little sad.
"Was," I corrected. "Zarkon destroyed the planet, much as he did to yours."
"I'm sorry," Coran said, patting my shoulder before he went to hug Allura.
My ears twitched as I heard some faint squeaking. From Allura's expression, she heard it too.
"Looks like we're not the last after all." She said, smiling faintly as she brought the four mice out of the pod.
Out of nowhere, alarms began blaring, startling the mice, Coran, and just about everyone there.
"A Galra ship has set its tracker to us!" Coran shouted.
"How did they find us?" Allura asked, staring at the picture of a Galra battleship on the screen.
"I'm not sure, but I bet it's Keith's fault," Lance said, glaring at the aforementioned teen.
"I think that's enough bickering you two," I said, glaring at them. "How long until they arrive?" I asked Coran.
"At their speed? Oh, well, carry the two, I'd say, probably a couple of days." Coran finally decided.
"Good," Allura said. "Let them come, by the time they get here, we will have reformed Voltron, and together we will destroy Zarkon's empire."
The moment was completely ruined when Hunk burped loudly. "Sorry, food goo," he apologized. His stomach rumbled and he groaned.
"Princess, there are five of these lions. How are we going to find the rest?"
Allura led us to a sort of control room, standing on the massive platform in the middle. The entire platform was suddenly lit up, a pair of pedestal-like things coming up for Allura to rest her hands on.
"King Alfor connected the lions to Allura's life force. She alone is the key to the Lions' whereabouts." Coran explained. I frowned as a bunch of blue lights appeared, making a map of the universe.
"These are coordinates," Pidge said, looking amazed. "The black lion appears to be in the same place as the blue lion."
"Look at your primitive synapse fire away in their little brain cage," Coran said, a sort of 'oh look, so cute!' tone in his voice.
"I'd have to guess that that's because the black lion was sealed away here, right?" I asked, turning to Allura.
"Correct, to keep the black lion out of Zarkon's hands, my father locked it up here. It can only be freed if all the other lions are present." Allura explained. "As you have found, the Lions choose their pilots carefully. It is a mystical bond that can not be forced. The quintessence of the lion is mirrored in his paladin."
"Wait," I interrupted. "I thought quintessence was just a myth."
"Maybe to others, but it is very real. Together, the lion and the pilot form something greater the science can explain." Allura gently spun the hologram, a black lion hologram coming to rest in front of Shiro. "The black lion is the head of Voltron. It will take a pilot who is a born leader, and in control at all times. Someone who's men will follow without hesitation. That is why Shiro, you will pilot the black lion." She spun it again, this time, a green lion came to rest in front of Pidge. "The green lion has an inquisitive personality and needs a pilot of intellect and daring. Pidge, you will pilot the green lion. The blue lion-" Allura continued.
"Let me guess," Lance interrupted. "Will take the most handsome slash best pilot of the bunch?" Allura and I glared at Lance. Since I was closest, I whacked him on the back of the head, making him glare at me.
"The yellow lion is caring and kind. Its pilot is one who puts the needs of others before himself. His heart must be mighty. As the leg of Voltron, you will lift the team up and hold them together." Allura spun it again, a yellow lion coming to rest in front of Hunk, and a red lion coming to rest in front of Keith. "The red lion is temperamental and the most difficult to master. It's faster and more agile than the others, but also more unstable. Its pilot needs to be someone who relies more on instincts then skill alone. Keith, you will fly the red lion."
"And I'll just sit here and help with info I suppose," I said, frowning slightly.
"Apologies, but there are only five lions. The silver and gold lions were lost long ago." Allura said.
"Although it is told that if they joined with Voltron, it would gain immeasurable power." Coran offered.
"Unfortunately, I cannot locate the red lion's coordinates yet. There must be something wrong with the castle, after 10,000 years, it may need some work."
"Don't worry, we'll find it soon. They don't call me 'the Coranic' for nothing." At this point, I tuned him out, staring at the small blue lights. The map was terribly out of date, I'd have to get it updated.
"Once the lions are united, you will form Voltron, the most powerful warrior ever known, the defender of the universe." The holographic lions each roared, coming together to form Voltron.
"We don't have much time," Shiro said, "Pidge and I will go after the green lion. Lance, you take Hunk and get the yellow lion. Keith, you stay here. If you locate the red lion, go get it."
"In the meantime, I'll get the castle defenses ready. They'll be sorely needed." Allura said.
"And I'll update this stupid map, it's way out of date." I offered.
"I'll ready a pod and load in the coordinates so that you can reach the green lion," Coran said.
