Chapter 6

It was a disaster.

The floor had been ruptured to a degree where it looked like a particularly devastating earthquake had occured.

Blue and white tongues of fire snaked up buildings and encased them, lighting up the whole street, onlookers unable to look away from the terrible beauty.

One of the laboratories had been destroyed, and the rest of the street was being removed from existence too.

The three of them stared, horrified, before they were hastily pushed aside.

A tall figure stalked past them, wings spanning just under a meter, shimming with some kind of power reminiscent of an aura. Long green hair blew in the light wind.

Karma's breath caught in his throat.

Marcy.

The girl stepped over to the fire, several meters away and kept walking until she was barely away from it. If it flickered a little bit she would be dust. Karma let out a short yell and chased after her.

She slowly raised her hands and took a single step back. White magic began to materialise around her, moulding and enlarging until it was just as big as the fire itself. It cut off the light of the fire and plunged the street back into darkness, causing everyone present to cry out in alarm.

Karma's eyes instantly adapted to the lighting as he skidded to a stop. She seemed to have formed some kind of barrier of sheer energy that was preventing the fire from spreading more.

He stood next to her. "What are you doing?" he yelled, trying to get his voice heard above the chaos. He was vaguely aware of Hiroto and #76 running up next to him, #76 having to pull Hiroto along, as his inexperience left him unable to focus in the darkness.

She sent him a short glance. "I'm keeping it contained!" she yelled, voice straining and cracking. "Until the emergency services get here, this is all i can do!"

Karma nodded. "Any way i could help?"

"Ummm.." she hesitated. "Can- can you use magic in any way?"

"A little?" he replied nervously. It was incredibly hard to control any kind of mystical power, and you had to be a inorganically constructed creation to even be able to handle it without causing yourself irreperable eternal damage.

"Can you help?" she begged, hands beginning to tremble as she kept them held up. The barrier shimmered. He nodded, swallowing thickly, feeling like his throat was blocked.

He slowly raised his arms and focused, placing his feet shoulder width apart. He closed his eyes ans breathed in and out.

He felt a warm feeling. He mentally tried to grab and pull that feeling, to focus it around him. His hand twitched and white shimmers began to flicker.

#76 watched, entranced as Karma seemed to fortify Marcy's magic, both of them straining, eyes screwed shut.

A few minutes later, a large disc shape flew above the fire. Tons apon tons of water was dumped from iron carriers at the bottom of the airborne object.

Both Marcy and Karma collapsed to their knees. Finally adjusted to the low lighting, pupils dilated, Hiroto ran over and helped them shakily stand, both looking like they'd seen better days.

"I heard there was a fire?" a familair voice broke the air, Adrian Xavier striding confidently over to the remains of the buildings, silver-white magic thinning and dissolving rapidly. A hatch opened in the airship like thing, and a person dropped down, rolling as they hit the floor, and nodded at the man.

"Mr. Xavier, the problem was solved, though we have no idea who the arsonist was. The damage is... Rather major but thankfully we were helped by those children" he pointed at Karma and Marcy. Adrian raised a brow in interest.

The worker's wings popped out and they ascended back upwards to be welcomed back into the disc. Adrian stepped over to Karma and Marcy, Now both Hiroto and #76 were keeping them stable.

"I hear you helped solve this mess" he said, and they all turned to face him, Hiroto and Karma had looks of apprehension, Marcy looked thankful and #76 was hiding a frown. "How on earth did you manage to do that? That was some impressive magic at work there."

"Does it matter?" Karma said quietly. Adrian sighed. "I recognise you now. You're the one who punched my partner, aren't you? Got bailed out of spending hard time or being dismantled. Well, i suppose this evens out the fued, hmm?"

Karma's brows screwed up further, body shaking with irritation. Hiroto looked at him with concern and rested a hand on his shoulder.

Adrian turned to Marcy. "And you work in a subdivision of those working directly for the higher ups, don't you? You call yourself Marcy, yes? I suppose you would like some sort of reward"

Marcy didn't answer, eyes unusually hardened.

Adrian blew a strand of black hair from his face. "Well, i can directly send a few thousand credits to you later. Good work."

He suddenly turned to Hiroto, and fell completely silent. His eyes narrowed. Hiroto flinched under his gaze. Aidrian seemed to be looking right through him.

Finally, without a word, Adrian left, leaving Hiroto extremely unsettled.
