The Green Mile
I sat and re-watched Stephen King's The Green Mile recently whilst sat in a hotel room. Even though I'd seen it before, read the story, and knew the ending, it held me spellbound.
The performance of the now deceased Michael Clarke Duncan still leaves me in awe. His portrayal of the character John Coffey is just incredible, and I hope one day to write a character as uniquely wonderful.
The Green Mile is easily my favourite of all King's stories, and to me is the best type of horror. It's a story that shows just how sickly perverted some people can be, shows how others soldier on as best they can in a dark world, but also shows that one person truly can make a difference, leaving a mark on all those he touched.
One of my colleagues here at Wattpad has a sticker on her computer that states simply "Give more than you take".
I'm a great believer in the fact that one person can make a difference with even a small positive deed, and that that tiny amount of positivity can snowball into something momentous. A kind gesture, smile, nod of appreciation or even a simple 'thank you' can take you a long way in this world, and the simple gift of positivity can make a huge difference to someone else's day, or even their life. Go the extra mile, even if it isn't Green.
