Starting Today...

At first I hear a woman singing, "I'm a little teapot short and stout... Come on baby girl sing the rest."

And then I hear a child babbling in the background. The baby sounds adorable...

"That's it baby girl. That sounds beautiful."

I hear a man say, "She has your nose and eyelashes... and even your hair"

"well she has your beautiful eyes honey," says the woman.

And then I see them. A family of three. A woman in a rocking chair holding what I presume to be her child and her husband standing right next to them. And that's when I realize.....

"Mom... Dad?!?!"

They look up as if they could hear me and I get to see their faces. I can't stand it anymore, I start running to them.

"Kiyomi?" I hear them say my name as I feel tears start to form. But then in an instant my parents fade away....

"Mom... Dad?... Please NO! MOM! DAD! NO!"

As I start to regain consciousness I hear a different voice.

"Kiyomi.... Wake Up Kiyomi!!"

I startle and I jerk awake. I see Haruhi standing over me with a concerned expression. I rub my eyes and moan.

"What is it? What happened?" I say groggily. My body feels heavy and I don't know why. Then I remember my dream, "Haruhi! You won't believe it I had the worst dream where I saw my mom and dad and-"

"I know I heard.... you were kinda talking in your sleep...... Are you ok?" She asks me as she sees me tear up. She wipes away a tear and I'm surprised because I wasn't aware that I had started crying. "I'm fine Haruhi. Thanks," I say as I grab her hand set it down and wipe the rest of my tears away.

"Come on, up and at 'em, time to go to school Kiyomi," She tells me.

"Alright I'm up," I reply.

Me and Haruhi had grown up together. We are essentially cousins but the way we grew up together, so close and always there for each other, everyone just assumed that we were sisters. Sometimes, though rarely given how different we look, even twins. My mother and father died when I was just a toddler. So my uncle and aunt took me in. They treated me like their own daughter, and in all honesty I consider myself their daughter. Although they did give birth to a daughter themselves. Me and Haruhi are both the same age, separated by a few months. But my aunt was diagnosed with cancer and soon passed away. And from that moment on Haruhi was motherless. She was devastated, so I stood by her side and shared her pain.

Haruhi and I had been given a scholarship to attend Ouran Academy, a rarity, for the higher privileged, or in other words, the super rich. They were pretty snobby, to be honest. The admission price to the private school was well out of reach, but I didn't have to pay anything with the scholarship. I just have to keep my grades up to stay here. Although, it was actually pretty significant for them to give out two scholarships. That hadn't happened before.

It was the first day of school. Haruhi and I were in the fourth library. The last three were too packed and noisy. Even though I didn't see or hear a difference with this one, although it was the last library. The library's weren't used for studying or reading, but for gossip. I couldn't take it anymore so I asked Haruhi "Can we leave?.... Please, its driving me nuts."

"Alright let's go. I can't get no work done anyway." Haruhi also wanted a quiet place to work. We were in the same class, class 1A.

Haruhi had messy short brown hair and thick glasses hiding her big, brown eyes. She had contacts but she lost them in the morning today when she was in the bathroom. She also, used to have longer hair like me, but then some nasty kid got gum in it right before school started. She decided it would be too much work to try to get it out, so she just cut it all off herself. If it had been me, I would have struggled with the gum for hours. I never would have cut it.

We exited the library and shut the doors. We then walked up the red velvet staircase, going to the third floor and down the hall.

I commented, "With four libraries, you would think that at least one of them would be quiet."

She replied, "Yeah, but that doesn't seem to be happening. I'm starting to think these people only come here for a good time instead of learning."

"Well, I mean it wouldn't kill to take a break now and again. But not ALL the time," I sighed. We became silent.

It might seem a little ridiculous that we were dealing with all the trouble just to stay at some school, but it was actually worth it. Ouran offered us an amazing education. It was one of the top schools. Haruhi wanted to follow in her deceased mother's footsteps and become a lawyer. I wanted to become a veterinarian. It was hard getting into those type of colleges. But our chances would skyrocket if we said we had been to Ouran!

Paying for college wasn't going to be easy. I really needed a scholarship. Ouran was really my only chance, and I had planned to take it seriously. I wasn't there to make friends or find love.  I couldn't let anything ruin it.

We stopped outside a room with a sign that said "Music Room 3." I trailed off, "An abandoned music room..."

"I guess this is the only place we'll be able to study in some peace and quiet." Haruhi grumbled, opening the door. We couldn't have been more wrong.
