~ Chapter 10 ~

Despite everyone hoping that Eyre and Yona would make up (more so Eyre apologizing to Yona), nothing happened. Eyre did her best to keep a distance from Yona.

It's unsettling to everyone.

Chiyuki noticed the discomfort between the two women within a matter of minutes.

"Something happen?" She asks Yun day, the both of them preparing for dinner. They had just gotten home; Eyre left a neat cursive written note explaining that her classes will keep her from cooking dinner. Thankfully, newly bought ingredients are stored in the fridge.

Yun casts Chiyuki a confused glance, his hands rubbing through the lettuce under the stream of water.

"What?"

"Eyre and Yona. They don't talk. More so to each other." Chiyuki points out. Yun sighs, wringing his hands.

He nods his head, "Yeah. Yona was about to bring her bow and arrows to school for archery and Eyre had a fright. They haven't talked since last week."

Chiyuki raises a brow, a bit shocked with the time, "A week?" Yun hums, pulling out cutting boards and knives.

"Yeah... The whole mess about the weapons were solved with the school. Yona has to keep her equipment there. But Eyre hasn't made a move to apologize to Yona."

Chiyuki looks at Yun thoughtfully. The strawberry-blonde genius shifts uncomfortably, not knowing what to do and not knowing what may be going around through Chiyuki's head.

"What?"

Chiyuki pauses, as if carefully picking her words out before mayhem may ensue. "Do you think... Eyre is just giving Yona her... per se, space?"

Yun blinks once, twice, a third time before making a face that pleads for explanation.

Chiyuki begins to explain animatedly, "Well, Eyre's been through the whole high school experience right? And she came from a rich family? And then she left? Sounds to me that this girl may have grown up with too much attention, and only wants to be alone. I don't want to take sides, but sometimes that's how I feel."

Yun purses his lips. Throughout his time with Eyre, she's never been one to stray from the group. Eyre was always with someone, leading conversations or showing them something past their imagination. To hear that she's always wanted to be alone? It's hard to picture.

But now? With the way she's changed?

Yun will believe it in an instant if Eyre were to say so.

"Zeno's back!"

"Yun, did you make dinner? It smells good!"

The two athletes waltz into the apartment, tired and hungry after a day's hard work. Chiyuki offers the two a smile, hair tied high into a bun.

"Welcome bac-"

"By the way, we have guests."

"What?!" Yun shrieks. Three other people shyly wave, peering through the doorway.

Yun identifies two of them as Sophie and Pandora from last week. Pandora is the first to walk in, her face showing confidence and her shoulders rolled back. Yun can easily say that he's more intimidated that meets the eye.

Sophie trails after her friend, and the minute she understands the fact that she's more than welcome in their apartment, she begins to comment on little things around the room. Her hair is down from its ponytail, springs of locks flying everywhere. They don't seem to bother Sophie, though she's constantly pushing them away from her face.

The last person is male, Yun realizes. He's pale, extremely, with circular glasses perched atop his nose. There are glittery stars that he seems to have stuck under his eyes, and his clothes are what you would see in some small "Korean fashion" boutique. Maybe he really is Korean? Yun can't tell, no offense intended.

But to truly describe him is pretty. Prettier than Yun? He wouldn't let you say that to his face. Behind his back? He'd agree with a small ounce of hesitation.

"Hi, I'm Jun-Ho." He says. Jun-Ho's voice is as pure as honey and just as sticky. You would easily be swept within a sweet oblivion.

Chiyuki is quick to fill plates, forcing everyone to either sit on the island chairs or around the cofee table. Yun's already spoken to Eyre about a dining room table, but with the small room there's no possible way his wish can come true.

The teenagers are vivid, talking to everyone and no one. Yona seems to enjoy the chaos, while Zeno ensues it. Pandora tries to remain silent, but with Zeno asking questions every few seconds she has no choice but to talk. Sophie, Jun-Ho, Chiyuki and Yona are speaking animatedly; possibly about the three's next archery match and Chiyuki's up and coming concert?

Yun can't tell. His only thought is what Eyre would think when she comes home.

"Wait, so where did you all meet?" Chiyuki wonders. She'd just learned that Jun-Ho and she have trigonometry together.

Yona brightens with the question, "Most of us met up at archery! Jun-Ho wants to be the vice-captain next year, so he and Sophie are competeing. Zeno just found the four of us in front of the school after his practice."

"So you've never met until today?" Yun wonders. Everyone looks to one another, pausing, then nods.

"Yeah, basically." Sophie shrugs.

"Hm~ Is that so?" A suave voice sings through the room. Everyone turns their head only to see Jea-ha leaning up against the doorway. He's blocking Hak, Shin-ah, and Kija from walkling through the door. All of which are looking particually irritated; even Shin-ah.

Hak shoves Jea-ha out of the way, grumbling and few incorhent words under his breath. Yona smiles upon the sight of everyone, standing up from her spot around the coffee table just to begin brewing a pot of tea.

"You guys are home?"

"How cruel Yun. We've been working till night fall and this is how you treat us?" Jea-ha swings the back of his hand across his forhead, feignting a faint. Kija knocks him aside, sighing.

"Yun, it's nearly eight at night. We're usually home by this time." Kija explains. The guests widen their eyes in shock.

"Really?" Pandora checks her phone.

Sophie mutters, "Crap, curfew is nine." under her breath.

"Mom's going to kill me..." Jun-Ho grumbles.

Keys jingle by the doorway, catching the attention of everyone. "Don't worry, I'll drive everyone."

Yona sets down the cups of tea, yelling a startled, "Eyre?!"

Lo and behold, Eyre herself stands at the doorway. Her book bag is heavily strung across her shoulder but that doesn't shake her from collapsing onto the couch.

"You all ready to go?" She asks. The three nods their head, gathering their backpacks and books before filing out the door. They thank Yun for dinner (who nods his head) and walk across the hall and down the stairs.

Yona looks as if she's about to say something to Eyre, but she catches herself and hangs her head instead. Eyre looks at Yona.

"C'mon, you're coming too." Yona's head snaps up, eyes wide with fear. "I don't know these kids so I need an ice breaker." Yona stifly nods her head, deciding to bite her tongue and follow Eyre down the stairs.

Everyone looks at the empty doorway. Hak begins to bite his tumb nail (a nasty habit). Chiyuki notices the silence beore standing. This catches everyone's attention.

"Oh c'mon. I'll warm left overs up for you guys."

~*~

Pandora and Sophie are neighboors, aparently, which explains their friendship. However, they're nearly on the other side of the city. Getting there was hell for Eyre's prius, considering the usual traffic. Jun-Ho is closer to the school, but he's in the opposite direction of Eyre's apartment complex.

After dropping everyone off the car ride is silent. Considering how silent the prius is, this causes the situaation is even more awkward than the two girls could hope for.

Eyre remains silent, her eyes trained on the road and nothing less.

That is, until Yona decides to speak up.

"Eyre, I'm so-"

"Hey you've never had McDonalds, right?" Eyre questions out of nowhere. Yona blinks absentmindedly.

"A Donald? What's that?"

Eyre chuckles, quickly turning the wheel, "Canda doesn't have McDonalds?"

"Psh, I know what a McDonalds is."

Eyre sticks her tongue out, leaning up a bit to see further ahead. She hums in agreement, a mischivious twinkle in her eye for catching Yona is such an embarassing perdicament.

"How about a McFlurry. Is that what it's called? I actually want chicken nuggies. Tired of classes, y'know?" Eyre says aloud.

Yona purses her lip, shifting in her seat uncomfortably before muttering a, "Yeah..."

They quickly pull into an open 24 hour McDonalds. Eyre jumps out of the car, beore bolting for the enterance; Yona follows as fast as possible. By the time she was in the restaurant. Eyre has what looks like a cone of icecream in her hands.

"Here, eat." She says.

Yona takes the cone, inspecting it curiously.

That's what a lady announces a series o numbers, and Eyre rushes to the counter to grab a tray stacked with boxes.

"What're those?" Yona asks, traces of the McFlurry around her mouth. Eyre hands her a napkin, chuckling to herself.

"These, my dear, are chicken nuggets. A literal god send. I didn't come to San Francisco to be a vegan."

Eyre pours out a bunch of packets, all sauces for the chicen nuggets. There are about 13 boxes of the chicken nuggest, all with 20 in them. Yona's jaw drops at the sheer size.

"I can't eat these by myself." Eyre chastises, ushering Yona into the seat across from her.

Yona still feels uncomfortable, sitting here with Eyre. Eyre acts as if nothing is wrong, and that doesn't settle right with Yona. She's been taught (by the person in front of her) to face her challenges head on. Especially one that involves vocal conflict.

"Are you not hungry?" Eyre asks, dipping a nugget into some sweet and sour sauce. Yona shakes her head.

Eyre chews absent mindedly; everyone should understand by now that Eyre isn't a complete fool. She knows that Yona wants to talk about what had happened the week before. Eyre thought that the girl would let the situation blow over. Teenagers usually do that. Eyre still does that.

Of course, Yona is different. It took half a week for Eyre to realize this when Yona would cut off connections from Eyre completely. And not in a mean, 'don't-talk-to-me' kind of way. In a scared, 'I'm-genuinely-terrified-of-you' kind of way.

Eyre sets a box of chicken nuggets in front of Yona. "We talk after these chicken nuggets." She says.

Yona takes no mind to complaining. She opens the boxes, feeling a comforting warmth radiate from the food. Of course, Yona can't help but feel silly over it. She's heard a bunch of bad rumors about the food, but Eyre doesn't seem to care.

Yona begins to eat one, then another, and another. She's dipping them into different sauces, combing sauces, a saunce on one end of a nugget and a different sauce on the other. She's experimenting with her sauces and her nuggets, and her mind is completely taken away from the problem at hand.

Sometimes Yona can't help but hate the fact that she's so easily caught up within the different everything in Eyre's world.

Eyre laughs as Yona starts her second box of chicken nuggets. "Did Yun even feed you?" Eyre asks the red-haired princess. Yona rubs a smidge of barbeque sauce from the corner of her mouth. She frowns to herself.

"Not really, no... I was afraid you would come in and get mad, so I forgot to eat dinner..." It's not her intnetion to make Eyre feel bad, but it's the truth.

Eyre sets down her half eaten nugget. Her eyebrows are furrowed, lips pursed. Yona can sense the numerous words Eyre is itching to say. Of course, it's nearly impossible for her to piece an apology, explanation, and sentence of concern in one.

So she goes with something simple.

"Oh."

"...'Oh'?"

"Sorry, give me a second. I'm trying to figure out if you'd rather want an apology or explanation first. I just ruled out the thought of me acting like a mother. I'm in no place to do that yet."

Yona bursts into laughter. Her sides itch and her mouth begins to hurt with the force of pulling the corners so wide. It's been a while since Yona's laughed this hard, and she never expected it to happened from Eyre's said statement.

Eyre's changed, and perhaps it's not all too bad.

Eyre dips her half eaten nugget into some honey barbeque sauce before stuffing it into Yona's mouth to shut her up.

"Should I explain first?"

Yona nods her head, chewing and giggling at the same time. Eyre shakes her head, hoping Yona won't choke.

"I didn't want to bother you." Eyre keeps her answers short and simple. Yona looks at her quizically.

Eyre waves it off, "I guess you don't understand. You're a different type of teenager. I just put myself in your shoes the week before, but I was really glued in my own the whole time. You're different, and I just haven't figured you out yet."

Yona sighs heavily. Eyre understood Yona completely before. It took Yona forever to build a strong relationship with Eyre over the year. Them being seperated all the time in this world has proven to be difficult.

"But of course, I'll just have to take you and Harper out to the mall or something more often. Maybe even Yun. I'm pretty sure Utla and Sephora are stores I haven't taken you to yet?" Eyre wonders to herself, fist rested underneath her chin.

Yona jumps, startled with the proposal.

"Oh, and I'm sorry."

"...Alright?"

"Cool, let's get this stuff packed up then? I'm sure everyone would like to try chicken nuggets, yeah? Oh, let's go grab a bag of these sauces. You'll finish your McFlurry in the car right?"

Maybe it's Yona's turn to understand Eyre?
