special chapter
Nari sighed as she looked at the book before her, dangling her fingers over the pages as she flipped through quickly.
The photos sought to remind her of how she ended up here, and how she ended up being the person she is today. The very person who sat on the carpet as she looked out at the city before her, her lovers hands wrapped around her as she sat between his legs.
"What are you thinking about?" His voice brought her back to conscious, making her smile softly.
"How lucky I am," she mumbled, squeezing his hand as she looked at the page before her.
Juyeon smiled to himself, nuzzling his head in her shoulder as he looked down at the book too. He felt proud for having given the girl such a gift almost a year ago, he could see how much it meant to her.
"Are you missing home?" He asked softly, feeling the girl shake her head.
"More so reminiscing," Nari said with a pursed smile, looking at the photo of herself sandwiched between Eric and Jungeun, her heart feeling full.
She remembered that night clearly, the winter night where the four of them were out drinking.
She remembered how Sunwoo appeared, and how her heart didn't shatter quite as much as it should have when she saw him with someone else.
It was then she knew that this wasn't because of Jacob, but in fact because of the boy who sat across from her with his weary eyes.
Red, he always was. She couldn't help but wonder if he still was, and maybe she would never know - but that was okay.
Truthfully, he wasn't. Sunwoo would stay up late at night wondering how he ever once believed he stood a chance against Juyeon. He would say he should have known better to love her after he saw her eyes longing for him, but he couldn't. And that was his fault. Although, Nari would disagree.
"The sunset looks pretty here," she mumbled, tracing her fingers over the picture of the sun against the water.
Juyeon smiled as he glanced over at the next page, pointing towards the girls face as she stood grinning whilst he stood behind the camera. "You look prettier."
Nari let out a soft chuckle, her eyes never leaving the picture of the calming sun.
Orange, she knew he still was. She knew he was sitting somewhere with his head held high, his pride still more intact than ever.
Chanhee was always headstrong, neither of them could deny that. Although he wondered if he really was when he found himself thinking about their stupid little kiss.
He would smack his forehead gently, shaking his head with a chuckle, muttering that he was pathetic for thinking such a thing. "It means nothing" she told him. He was over her, that much he knew, and he knew no better than as he smiled at himself in the mirror.
The orange dye had faded almost wholly, much like their memories. Notwithstanding, he recognised that they had faded as quickly as they came to be.
"You took this at the camping trip?" Juyeon startled the girl slightly, feeling her jump slightly in his arms.
"I did," Nari nodded. "Look at you behind Eric!"
The two let out a laugh, seeing Juyeon with his cute dazed expression sitting behind the boy who was cheering in his seat for some reason.
The camping trip made the girl feel bittersweet, although for Juyeon - he simply felt hurt. He remembered how he stood before her, fighting for her as she clutched desperately onto Sunwoo.
"You know something?" The girl asked suddenly, making Juyeon tear his eyes from the photo and the thought of that one night.
"Hmm?" He bummed into her shoulder, closing his eyes as he held her a little tighter.
The girl grimaced at the thought of Haknyeon, however, she couldn't help but smile eventually. "I hated him, but I guess he wasn't wrong about a few things."
Yellow, he would never change. His ego remained larger than himself, although he couldn't deny that he had learned more from pestering the girl than intended.
He would still walk with the same confidence, despite knowing she had knocked him down a few levels. His looks and warm smile would be enough to mask that slight hurt which he hated to admit to, as well as the different person underneath.
"Yeah?" Juyeon chuckled, not quite seeing how anything he done could possibly be right. The girl nodded, making the boy raise an eyebrow. "He told me you didn't love me, how could you say that?"
"No," Nari shook her head, turning now to wholly face the boy. "He knew I loved you all along, I'm sure of it."
"Then why would he say that?" He pouted, the girl now caressing his face as she giggled at him.
"To hurt you," she shrugged, looking between his eyes. "I guess Eric was also right. Everyone else saw it before I did."
Juyeon smiled, his cheeks flushing slightly as she reached in to kiss the bridge of his nose before turning back enthusiastically to the photo book in her hand.
And another person who saw her love anyone else but him was Changmin, the thought of him making her feel uneasy.
Green, he wasn't anymore. Surprisingly, the boy had grown distant from the memories they had shared, no longer feeling that pain in his chest at the thought of the girl.
Nari worried that she had broken his heart, and she would never know if she had broken him completely. Although she wished him nothing but peace.
"Cute," the girl gushed at a photo of Juyeon who was lay upon her bed with a smile on his face. "I remember this day."
"The day before we left together," he muttered into her hair, clasping his hands again around her.
There was enough time to gush about him and his significance in her life at another time, and for them - they had all the time in the world. For at least they hoped.
Juyeon smiled at the photo they landed upon now, seeing his hands wrapped around her almost exactly the same as they did now, her looking cozy in her jumper.
Indigo, the jumper was, and he still was. The two kept in contact still to this day, which Nari was grateful for.
He remained very much the same, yet so different at the same time. He was still critical and dramatic, but for more of the right reasons this time around. He was grateful still for the memories they shared and continued to make, knowing he could appreciate that without old feelings involved was special to him.
"Look at his face," Nari muttered with a chuckle, pointing at a horrified looking Hyunjae who pulled a funny face in their last day of school picture.
Juyeon stayed silent, feeling unbothered at the sight of him. He knew of his little crush on the girl, and he wasn't sure if it had faded.
Violet, he still very much was. Some nights he would find himself sitting by his window, hoping the girl would return home for a few days. He felt stupid for turning around in church on a Sunday, envisioning the girl being silly with her brother.
She wondered if he had gotten over her yet, or if he ever really felt that way in the first place. One thing was for sure, that the tables had turned. She once spent her younger years crushing on the boy across the street, and now he spent his nights regretting not acting sooner.
"Your book is almost full," Juyeon chuckles, as the girl sighs. "I can get you another one."
"I like this one," Nari pouted, flicking through the pages quickly. "It's special to me."
"The next one will be too," the boy squeezed her in his arms, watching as she lingered around the pages filled with photos from the New Years party.
He was doing okay, better than expected. Nari found herself wondering how he was often, but it came wholly from a place of guilt.
She vividly remembered his face as she left him on that beach, because it was the last time she saw him. Every effort made to contact him was denied, he couldn't face her ever again.
And so he didn't, it would be better this way. Although that didn't stop his heart from clenching every time he thought of her, wondering just how he could move on.
Jacob had tried to move on, his current attempt was nothing short of pathetic. Dating the girl his family wanted him to marry could only end tragically, a life of no love nor happiness.
But he would still try, despite seeing Nari's smile in hers every time she looked at him sweetly or laughed at his words.
"I hope he's okay," she muttered, looking at the group photo from that night.
"I don't," Juyeon muttered, making the girl shriek and laugh, turning around to smack his arm gently at the boys pettiness. "I'm kidding. In fact, only half-kidding."
"Sure," Nari chuckled, rolling her eyes as she faced the boy who looked gloom. "What's wrong?"
"I just don't like to think about it," he shrugged, finally looking up at her. "That's pathetic and silly, I know. Leave me to sulk."
"Over what? I'm with you now," she chuckled, holding his hands although he didn't quite seem to cheer up. "Want to know something cool?"
The boy looked at her with a dazed expression, raising an eyebrow as he chuckled softly. "Hit me, partner."
"The night you gave me this book," Nari took a deep breath, smiling at the photos that were on the page before glancing back up at him. "I think that's when I realised I loved you."
Her words lingered in the air for a moment, the boys eyes glimmered in a mixture of amusement and love, a look which was indescribable to the girl.
"Really?" His voice went higher than usual, his eyes looking between hers. She had never white told him the exact moment when, although now when she looked back on it - she was more than sure of it.
"I was really happy you went to all of this effort for me," she continued, smiling at the thought. "I gushed about your gift to everyone, it meant the most to me."
"Maybe because it was a good gift?" He chuckled as she shook her head sternly.
"It was then," she assured him, making his heart feel warm. "Because I remember thinking that I would love to fill the book with photos of us, and not anyone else."
"Cutie," he gushed, kissing her gently. "I'll get one for just the two of us, okay?"
"Okay," she smiled, watching as he stood up and walked away to the other side of their dorm room, picking up his laptop in the process.
Nari lay her back against the wall, flicking through her phone as the boy began to softly play music in the background.
Her heart sank when she saw a picture of her brother smiling widely in the first photo of a series. Sangyeon looked great, as though he was having the greatest time of his life. She wouldn't know, however, and that broke her heart.
She glanced over at Juyeon, throwing him a smile as he caught her eye although her chest felt heavy at the thought of her distant brother. The one who didn't want to associate with her anymore. The one who chose friendship over family.
She couldn't have it all, that was the reality.
