Chapter Ten

6:08 PM

Peter and I stared up at Caesar's Palace, a hotel that had been built seven years ago, Peter's goggles dancing with the light it created.

"We have to see the suite in this place. Do you know how much it costs to stay there a night?" Peter asked as he wiggled around like an excited puppy.

"I'm guessing in the thousands." I sighed quietly as Peter nodded.

"It literally has its own private pool. And a private garden." Peter continued to persuade as I grew more wary of the consequences.

Cons... We could get caught, and people would know we were mutants.

We could get caught, and thrown in jail for attempting to break in.

I would once again be staying in the same room as Peter Maximoff.

And the pros... I'd have a once in a lifetime opportunity to sleep in a presidential suite. That was an opportunity I couldn't pass up, right?

"Dammit." I muttered under my breath, staring ahead at the doors before turning to Peter. "Okay. Here's how this will go. Instead of using my ability on a hundred people and making them believe I'm not there, I'll just stop time, get the key, and... then we can go up to the suite undetected."

"That's a way better plan than what I was thinking." Peter muttered as I raised a brow.

"What were you thinking?" I asked as he shrugged.

"I grab the key with my super speed, have you pretend to be the owners daughter and I'm your   boy— plus one, and we just go up there." Peter cut himself off, but I could tell what he was going to say.

And did I agree with the Chance we'd pretend to be a couple to get into the hotel? ... no.

"Okay. Let's do this." I turned back to the hotel, my hands glowing a faint green as the world came to a standstill. I grunted quietly due to how wide I had paused Vegas, shaking my head.

"You have to get the keys then take me up there. I've never paused time this wide before." I huffed as Peter nodded, zooming in the hotel then back out, a grin on his face as he held the key up.

"I made sure to put a fake name down on their paper so it looked like someone was staying there and they wouldn't check." Peter cocked his tongue with a wink as I nodded quickly, my knees beginning to buckle.

Peter's eyes widened as he quickly grabbed me, running us upstairs as I stopped using my ability, and Vegas returned to normal.

I gasped for air and feel to the ground, Peter wasting no time to panic as I crawled to an electrical outlet, raising my hand closer to it. I felt the energy from the building flow into my hand and through my body, slowly re-energizing me. The lights of the building flickered for a moment, then returned to normal.

"Woah. So like... your energy thing can heal you?" Peter asked as I nodded.

"And anyone else that's been injured. Whether they were born like it, or their injuries happened a long time ago." I inhaled sharply and stood up, wobbling for a moment. Peter rushed over to my side (quite literally) and offered to help me sit down. "I got it."

"You still seem a bit—"

"I said I got it." I snapped a bit harshly, rubbing my eyes with a sigh. "Sorry... just not a fan of getting help." I continued as Peter nodded, his eyes catching something quickly.

"No way." He gasped out a laugh as he quickly walked over to a table, pulling out a wine bottle and large whiskey bottle, turning around to face me. "This day just got a thousand times better."

"I've uh— I've never had whiskey." I frowned as Peter did, popping both of the bottles open.

"You're kidding, right?" He asked as I shook my head.

"Only wine. Never really did anything to me, anyways." Peter shrugged, setting the two open bottles down as he peeled back the curtains.

Both of our eyes widened in shock at the scene outside. A brightly lit infinity pool waved back and forth from the wind, a hot tub connecting to it that had a waterfall, which would help keep the pool warm. There was a beautiful garden next to the pool, my eyes widening in glee.

"Oh, I am so doing a canon ball in that." Peter grinned as I frowned.

"We don't have swims—" in the blink of an eye and with a gust of wind, Peter disappeared then reappeared, holding swim trunks and a swim suit, wearing a wide grin on his face.

"Pool time."

I stared down at the pool in front of me, the light inside glowing on my face as I waited for Peter to walk out. I turned when I felt the buzzing in my head grow, hearing the sliding door open then shut.

"Gotta say, you're looking great." He grinned, holding the whiskey bottle along with a bottle of vodka. "Found this. 47%." he grinned as I whistled. This is sure to get us fucked up."

I slowly grabbed the bottle of vodka and stared at it, squeezing my eyes shut before taking a huge chug of it.

Jesus Christ this is vile.

I gagged at the burning, rotten feeling the vodka gave me, even though it had slipped down my throat smoothly. I coughed hard and made disgusted face, covering my mouth as I shook my head.

"That was awful." I coughed out as Peter laughed, taking the vodka.

"C'mon it can't be that bad." I could tell that Peter had never tried Vodka before, let alone tried alcohol in general as he took a swig of the alcohol, almost making the same face I had. "Oh... my god that's disgusting... I need more." Peter took a bigger sip from before, his eyes rolling back in his head in disgust.

I couldn't help but laugh at the face he made, staring at the whiskey in his hands. "I want to try some of that."

"You sure? It's stronger than the vodka." Peter asked as I nodded, taking the whiskey. I let out a deep breath before chugging as much as I could of the whiskey, the temptation to throw it all up itching in the back of my head.

That feeling was a hundred times stronger. The whiskey burned my throat like a fire, the taste remaining on my tongue and gave it the sensation of popping all of my tastebuds at once.

It was amazing.

I couldn't stop myself from chugging more, Peter watching me with wide eyes as I reeked back, handing him the whiskey and wiping my mouth.

"Can I be honest with you, JJ?" Peter asked, eyes still wide and mouth slightly agape. I let out a hard breath, nodding.

"That was really hot." My eyes widened and I blinked at Peter, the feeling of my heart slipping a beat causing me to go sober for two seconds.

"I— what?" I muttered a she cleared his throat, setting the alcohol on the table.

"Oh look at that! The pool!" Peter quickly canon balled into the deep end, his head bobbing up, silver hair now completely flat against his shoulders and back.

He suddenly looked down and frowned, swimming back over to the shallow end to stand up, and my eyes widened when I noticed how his muscles showed through the wet grey t-shirt he wore.

"You coming in or you just gonna stand hot here drunk?" He asked and I shook my head clear off the thoughts that I crept their way into my head.

The bell are you thinking, Jeyda?! Not with him!

I walked over to the deep end slowly, staring down at the pool. My heart suddenly began to race, memories flooding my vision.

The memory of me almost drowning.

Because of Peter.

I took several steps back from the water, shaking my head. "I can't— I- no.. I can't..." I held my head in my hands as Peter quickly got out of the pool, confusion written on his face. "I don't — I haven't learned-" I could form a straight-forward sentence, Peter's wet hands grabbing my shoulders and forcing me to turn to him. But my eyes were still fixated on the pool, watching a younger me drown.

"JJ? Jeyda. Hey!" He yelled and I suddenly snapped back into reality, staring into his deep brown eyes. "You haven't learned since I—" he couldn't finish his sentence, but I nodded slowly. Peter sighed, shaking his head.

"I'll teach you, then." Peter took his hand in mind, slowly taking me to the shallow end of the pool.

"I don't know Peter—"

"It's okay. I won't let anything bad happen." He promised, dipping back down into the pool as he proceeded to take of his shirt, which I could tell was clinging to him and uncomfortable. I held my hands close to my body, slowly stepping in.

The wave of fear washed back over and I was tempted to step back out, looking at Peter with a horrified expression. "I can't do this."

"When we're you ever one to back down from a challenge?" He asked with a frown as I shook my head.

"Since I found out robots with power mimickry existed." I answered sarcastically, slowly getting deeper into the pool.

I stood in front of Peter, who I now realized was significantly taller than me. His hands found their way into mine and he started stepping back, instinctively making me follow.

"Can we not get so close to the deep end-?" I asked quietly as he shook his head, listening to the soft buzzing of everyone's thoughts around me inside my head.

"It'll be fine, trust me." He smiled softly as I scoffed, staring down at my feet and nothing else.

"Last time I trusted you, you tried drowning me. Oh, how history repeats itself." Peter only chuckled, shaking his head.

"Well, things are different now."
