Chapter 9 - Breakdown

Fan art of Elle done by MagLoopy I keep forgetting that I can tag people in my stories when they do fan art for me! Thank you so much, much love. 💛 -Golden

---

Kirishima watched as his new friend went from game machine to game machine, checking each one out for herself but always asking him to play it before her so she could learn from him. He wasn't used to somebody being unfamiliar with something as popular as arcade games. It was basically a e-sport in Japan from how popular they were from generation to generation. Elle stuck out like a sore thumb in the place, not knowing how to play the arcade games, when he knew how to play them since he was little and so on and so forth. Even something as ancient and loveable as Pac-man she had no clue how to play. She actually first thought that the ghosts were there to help eat the pellets in the maze- Which was instantly put down when Kirishima went through a portal and a ghost just so happened to block his path.

He did find himself holding back when playing the games. He was acting somewhat careless in games he was pretty good at. It was something he did subconsciously, not wanting to show off that he was better than her at something like a self-absorbed asshole. That wouldn't be very manly of him. Or nice.

As the day drew on and more games were played, Kirishima could hear Elle's stomach growling in hunger for food. Reminding him that he told her he would get them the pizza they served at the arcade.

'Never having pizza...' That was such a odd statement to him as he lived on pizza for months on end during his middle school years. He wish he could still do that, but with his hero training and own workout sessions eating pizza on the daily wouldn't be good for him. But he did indulge in it once in a while, this being one of those times.

"I'm gonna go order some pizza, do you want any specific toppings on it?" He questioned her as he felt his front pocket for his wallet, pulling it out when Elle looked off to the side, briefly, in thought.

"Uhh... I don't know?" Elle answered awkwardly, not knowing how to respond as the game she was playing went onto the next stage.

"Like pepperoni, peppers, olives- Stuff like that. Basically any topping you can think of."

"I will just stick with a regular one?" She replied after a stiff moment of silence, not wanting to over complicate things. "Just- Just get whatever you want Kiri. I'm not that hungry." Kirishima frowned at her answer, his eyes going to her waist where her jacket was tied around. It was barely noticeable from how she was slightly slumped over playing the arcade game, but he could see her ribs and spine poking out unhealthily. That worried him.

No matter how many times he told her she was welcomed to stay at his house, she was always quick to deny his invitation. Telling him that she was fine, that nothing was wrong.

'Homeless.' He thought. He found a friend in someone in need of help. He wanted to help her but she kept telling him no. That she was fine, everything was okay.

In the words of Bakugo Katsuki, 'Bullshit.'.

He was going to keep asking her and telling her that his doors were open to her, he was going to continue trying to help her. In anyway that he can.

And if that meant shoving a slice of pizza down her throat, then so be it.

He walked off, seeing her becoming too invested in the game as she growled and looked quite agitated at whatever was happening on the screen. She was basically another Bakugo to him. Only she didn't let her emotions control her like he does. She was a mixture of him and another one of his classmates- But was still her own person. Her personality may have reminded him of two people, but that didn't mean that she was solely comprised of those two.

He quickly ordered a small pizza, knowing he would most likely eat dinner later when he got back to the dorms and that Elle wouldn't eat much. But he hoped that she would at least indulge herself in one slice. He didn't want her passing out on him.

She almost did earlier, he didn't want that to continue happening.

With the pizza- He grabbed two sodas for them, just regular Coca-Cola. He didn't know what type of soda she liked or if she even liked soda at all. If she didn't like it, he would just get her something else.

He didn't pay much attention to the amount of money he handed over to the cashier to pay, this was to help his friend. Right now the amount didn't matter. What mattered was making sure she was okay and fed.

He sat their sodas down on a vacant table, seeing Elle already walking to him with a sour look on her face and arms crossed tightly across herself.

"You okay? You look like you just ate a lemon."

"The machine spazzed out on me. The uh, whatever dude's called, came over and told me to wait until they fix it. Oh, here is your money back." She slid the coin over to him, the metal discreetly sliding across the wooden table.

"Don't worry. They usually have them fixed in a day."

"I was so close to getting to where you were! Ah, why do you find these games fun? They only frustrate me!" She huffed, changing her position in the chair with her leg pushed up to her chest, the other underneath.

"Oh boy, never took you for a rage gamer."

"The hell is that?"

"Basically explains it. Here, I got you a soda." Kirishima placed the soda right in front of her, the split-dyed girl eyeing it for a moment. She read the label, recognizing it from ads she would see around the city.

"Don't worry- It's good." Kirishima told her after she spent a few moments contemplating whether to open it before popping the cap off.

She took a small and quick swig of it, her face scrunching up at the carbonation bubbling.

"That's... Weird."

"Do you want something else? I can go and get-"

"Don't bother Kiri. I'm fine with this. Stop spending your damn money." She replied shortly, eyes narrowed. Kirishima eased himself back down into his seat, nodding.

Kirishima's phone began ringing after a few seconds of silence, the red head pulling the smartphone out of his pocket to see who was calling him.

"Do you mind if I take this?" She shook her head, letting him excuse himself before he left to take the call.

Tsukauchi Naomasa sat at his police desk, staring at all of the reports he had to look through and grade by the end of the day. Today was going by slowly, especially after having to catch up on paperwork with how much they have been trying to track down the not so infamous villain organization, the League of Villains.

It was the least they could do to help the pro-heroes who were better capable in taking their members down. The police force could only do so much when most of them comprised of people who were quirkless.

His eyes scoured over the next report, a traffic jam incident that happened around a week beforehand. Everything looked to be taken care of, all he had to do was review and grade it before sending it to the files.

Easier said than done with this type of traffic jam, as it almost resulted in a car crash.

If it wasn't for a girl with a ice quirk to stop the vehicle from hitting someone walking in front of her in the crosswalk.

An uneasy feeling swept cross his body, staring at the detailed description of this girl. Split-dyed hair, one side white and the other black, a eye patch over her right eye, her left eye the color of grey. Standing at the height of 170.18 cm. The officer who arrived on the scene was told the situation by her and other bystanders who witnessed what had happened. The woman who almost crashed into the young boy (That the police officer did not include his name in the report) tried to press charges against the girl for damaging her vehicle. Those charges were dropped after the video tape from the intersection was given and showed that she violated a traffic law, running a red light.

He suddenly felt curious to see this tape, his eyes continuing further down to the officer's name who made the report before standing up to find the officer and get the tape to see for himself.

It didn't take long, said officer had only been in the force for three years and usually handled tiny tasks like these. Ordinary, and was easy to ask him for the tape that he still had on his desk.

He retrieved the video and went back to his desk, plugging the card in and waiting for it to upload to his computer.

Few minutes passed before it was fully loaded and available for him to watch it.

The video began, Tsukauchi's eyes on the crosswalk as he waited for it to happen. Why was he so invested in this? This was a regular case and file, never to be remembered again. Something so small in life that he would have probably have brushed it off, but he couldn't get rid of the feeling in his gut. Telling him, screaming at him to review the footage.

He hastily paused it, his eyes widening when he spotted the familiar uniforms of UA, and most importantly. Midoriya Izuku.

His eyes trailed across the screen, brows furrowing as he didn't spot this girl yet, blending into the crowd that was walking across. He pressed play again, the action being so quick when a car ran the red light and came barreling towards the hero in training, Deku.

Midoriya was pushed away and onto the ground, a barricade of ice stopping the car. He felt his heart stop, pausing the footage again as he stared at the split-dyed girl. There was no way she could have been a regular person. Her reflex was way too quick. Her precision showed when she pushed Midoriya away far enough that he wouldn'tt get caught in the middle of her ice and the car. The car didn't seem to be damage that much either as the camera switched over to a different angle when he pressed play, slowing it down.

She had some form of training, but didn't wear a uniform from any school. Her clothing seemed beaten up and old. Clothing she probably has had for years and gotten from some type of second-hand store.

The split-dyed girl stood up straighter as the woman proceeded out of her car, Tsukauchi pausing the footage again as he leant back in his leather swivel chair.

Why did he hold such interest in a random passerby? Was it because of how odd she stood out? Her features striking out as a delinquent but held herself differently, and a delinquent wouldn't have such quick reflexes.

He went back to the report again, seeing if he missed anything, stopping when he saw that he did.

Elle.

That was the name given. Elle was the one who stopped the car with her ice. Elle wasn't a Japanese name, it was English. But she looked Japanese. Was it a name cover up?

He couldn't be sure, but he knew he had to contact a good friend of his, Toshinori Yagi, otherwise known as the Symbol of Peace- AllMight.

---

"Sorry about that, I'm needed back at the dorms in an hour." Kirishima returned. Elle rose a brow, having taken a napkin and was continuously folding it out of boredom.

"What for?"

"Nothing you need to worry about. Anyways- The pizza should be done soon so be ready for the historical moment of Elle eating her first pizza!" Elle rolled her eyes in reply. "It's not that historical-"

"Oh but it is!"

"You are way too excited-" She jumped at the sudden buzzing in her pocket, cursing at herself. Kirishima stared at her as she pulled the flip phone out of her pocket, watched the way her eyes seemed to dilate and grip to tightened on the napkin, tearing it.

"What's wrong?" She answered it, bringing it up to her ear as she leant back. She didn't think about walking away to speak privately to him, she hadn't heard from him in days, her worry for him out-measured her logical thinking.

"Are you okay? Please tell me that you are-" She was cut off by him, Kirishima only being able to hear that it was a male voice on the other end.

"Elle, I'm sorry."

"What are you saying sorry for? What's wrong?" Her tone became panicked, the tone sounding so foreign on her lips.

"Know that I love you so much. I never meant for this to happen-"

"What the fuck is going on?! Fucking-"

"Please listen. This is more dangerous, I-I can't be in contact with you anymore." She stood up, the chair she was sitting on flopping down onto the ground with a heavy thud.

"What do you mean?!"

"This is to keep you safe and away. I can't be there with you anymore without risking your life to be taken away. Please try to understand."

"How can I when you won't even tell me what that bastard is having you do?!" She gripped the edge of the table harshly, her shoulders shaking as Kirishima saw spots of ice encompassing her hand. He was too frozen to speak, unable to tell what was going on in front of him, not knowing what to do. He could only watch her.

"I can't, my phone is probably being tapped right at this moment. I'm sorry, I love you. Please be safe."

"Don't you dare hang up, please-" She stopped herself, holding back her tears, "I don't give a shit if your phone is being tracked, I need to know what is going on!"

"Elle-" Kirishima tried to speak but his voice was drowned out by the girl slowly breaking in front of him.

"I said that I can't! Please, understand. I'm hanging up now. I love you so much."

"No, no no no! Don't you dare-" The line went dead, Elle's eyes widening as she stared at the table, knowing there were eyes on her.

"No... No no no no no!" Kirishima jumped out of his seat, the table being covered in ice from Elle's burst of emotion. Her flip phone melting in her right hand, covered by her hair. In a burst of anger Elle thrusted her phone to the nearest wall, the phone breaking on impact, the plastic and metal having melted from her hand.

"Elle, Elle!" Kirishima spoke, stepping around the table to grab ahold of her arms before she could make a beeline out of the door, the onlookers and staff staring at them in confusion... And fear.

"Fucking damn it that asshole! Let go of me Kirishima I need to go find him-"

"Find who Elle? Find who?"

"You wouldn't understand, let me go!" She struggled against his grip, not wanting to hurt him unintentionally. She already let her emotion control her, she couldn't let that happen again.

"Then help me understand!"

"No!" She quickly thought of a solution, knocking his feet from under him unexpectedly. He fell to the floor, his body hardening to brace his fall as she ran out of the arcade, the fun memories of playing games and the chance to have her first pizza now long gone.

She ran down the street, tears stinging her eyes as she headed home- Was it even home now? What was going on? What was the bastard Shigaraki doing to make him have to cut ties with her?

She didn't understand, she tried so hard to in those next minutes of running before she heard Kirishima's voice yelling at her, telling her to stop running. She became too comfortable. She should have just stayed in the abandoned apartment complex, it would have been so much easier.

She turned into an alleyway, knowing the only way to lose Kirishima was to leave him in the dust.

She looked up, feeling her chest constricting and getting to the point of being unable to breathe, but she had to keep going, she needed to get away from him.

With her palms facing down to the ground ,ice shot down, shooting her up high enough to reach the rooftops, a freezing child whacking the area and Kirishima.

Kirishima turned into the alley, skidding to a stop as he saw her jump from the ice pillar and onto the rooftops.

"Elle! Wait!" She didn't listen. She left.

To Be continued

Ooo, wonder what happened on Touya's end?

Sadly the fun bonding between Kirishima and Elle had to come to an end, because I love some angst... And legit ripping out people's hearts slowly.

I enjoy that a little too much XD. Also, you can tell I went through a emo phase when I use, 'XD' for laughing when on my laptop. Rip @ me.

Thank you all for reading and supporting this story! Love you all and I will talk to you all later! -Golden
