Chapter 52 - Winter

Y'all do know that I can see when you skip chapters- Right? XD -Golden

---

The first half hour, Elle, Sachiko, the girl, didn't speak a word.

She just listened to her siblings speak, let Shoto hold her from behind on top of the hospital bed, his grip tight and comforting, neglecting the thought of ever letting go during this visit.

Natsuo was as bright as ever she noted, with his proclamation of gifts the three had set out and bought for her, Fuyumi showing them to her with a shaky smile, still registering that her little sister was in front of her, breathing, hearing, seeing- Her worried thoughts didn't hinder her away from the excitement and adrenaline she felt in her heart and mind. Here she was, safe and sound.

Natsuo soon began placing the gifts around the room, glancing behind his shoulder to her once in a while, waiting for a nod or a shake of the head to confirm that's where she wanted the placement to be.

She didn't expect them to bring gifts for her, and would of asked them why but was stopped by Shoto, who somehow knew what she was thinking despite not sharing the same thoughts, only the same emotions when they were strong enough.

"For all of the missed birthdays." He simply stated, the side of his head laid on top of her head. She wondered how he felt that was comfortable for him.

"Which would be..." Natsuo began to mentally count to himself, but also unconsciously counting on his fingers like a preschooler

"9?"

"10, Natsuo." The actual teacher in the room corrected.

"No no no! Didn't we celebrate her and Shoto's 5th?"

"That would make them 14, not 15." Fuyumi deadpanned, honestly wondering how he got accepted into university.

"We will be 16 soon, the number doesn't matter anyways." Shoto added, mentally thinking about how their birthday is less than two months away. Natsuo continued to count back, failing to do the math correctly before letting out a frustrated groan.

"Still! The point is Sachiko, we got you a lot of gifts to make up for it!" Yeah, she still didn't enjoy being called by that. She was pretty sure she had long pummeled the name into the ground and burnt it to ash before lodging it into the sea. She felt awkward telling them to call her Elle, because well... They remembered her as Sachiko, not Elle.

Shoto felt her discomfort, and switched the subject. "I brought some books with me that you can read, some are from UA if you want to get back into studying for that placement test."

"Placement test?" Fuyumi questioned, blinking her eyes. "Wait? For school?" She nodded along with Shoto, Natsuo stopping himself from pointing out how in sync their nods were.

"Before everything happened, she was studying for a placement test to be placed into a grade. I figured she would want something to do."

"I have some books as well! Shoto you should have told me! I still have books from when I was getting my teaching license!"

"Oh."

"Dont oh me."

"Oh."

"...Seriously?" Elle cracked a smile at her brother's sass, grabbing the book Natsuo was handing to her. She stared down at the cover, reading it before flipping it over, seeing in the bottom left corner the 'UA' insignia.

"Looks like next time I visit I will have something to bring you!" Fuyumi pointed out, watching the younger twin gloss over the pages, expertly skimming her thumb down the connected pieces of paper.

"If you are bringing stuff for her next time so will I! Any food requests? Because that's all I can think of right now on what you would want. Hospital food must suck ass." A knock on the door interrupted the light-hearted atmosphere. The door opened revealing one of Elle's regular nurses, holding a tray that had a glass of water and a few medicines.

"Sorry if I'm interrupting, but Miss Todoroki needs to take her medicine." Elle glanced up to the clock on the wall, noting the time. She didn't even notice how fast time had passed. And for how long she still didn't speak a word to either of them.

Shoto reluctantly scooted further up the bed, removing his arms from around Elle to let Elle take the tray into her lap, setting Shoto's book aside.

"What medicines does she take?" Natsuo questions, remarking how none of the medications were into a bottle.

"Mostly medicines to boost her immune system and fight away her fatigue. Her next set of medications won't be until after dinner, those ones will be different."

"Which ones are those?"

"I can't say, we are constantly switching them because Miss Todoroki quite easily builds up an immunity to them. If you want to see a list of the ones she has tried so far, you will have to speak to her prime doctor." Shoto nodded. The nurse smiled as Elle handed the tray back to her, the four waiting until the nurse left the room before striking conversation again.

"She seemed... Nice?" Fuyumi commented softly. Elle made a small face, sticking out her tongue from the bitter taste left in her mouth from the meds. "Doesn't taste very good?" Asked Natsuo with a chuckle. Elle shook her head.

"I have heard the more bitter it tastes, the more it works!"

"That's dumb."

"Not really, you just gotta get them down quick enough so you don't really taste the bitterness." Fuyumi further informed the siblings. Elle grabbed a hold of the book again, feeling Shoto shift behind her to return to his earlier position, except his body was more relaxed, his arms mostly draped around her shoulders instead of locking her in them. She didn't have the heart to comment about his affection, she expected it from her twin. He hadn't been able to hold her or anything since they were 5 years old.

And yet here she was, 15 going on 16- Not enjoying affection when she used to love it when she was younger.

She was just going to blame that on trauma.

Yeah.

Anyways-

Listening to her siblings talk was different, she expected the first hour to be more awkward, deafening silence, wanting to break free from the room and escape from their clutches. But, it was the opposite. Was her mind really that elaborate to create that sort of scenario for people who were supposed to love her no matter what?

Faces flash in her mind, bringing her back to the reality she faced, squeezing her eyes shut to block the sounds of them talking that she didn't mind before- but was now transmitting into static, high pitched ringing, reminding her that, yes, those scenarios produced from her mind can easily become true.

Just as her body temperature rose, it was cooled down, goosebumps rising upon her skin over and over again until they were put to a stop by Shoto securing his arms locked around her, keeping her anchored from flying off the rails with her quirk.

She opened her eyes again, glancing up from her lap blearily, still unable to hear fully, ears under the water, the surface thick with ice, perfect for skating over and fishing for the animals that lived below.

"Hey hey sis, it's okay we are here. We are here now." Reassured by Natsuo, Elle shook her head, dropping her head forward to hide the twisted emotion she knew was showing on her face. Her head pulsed, temperature increasing then decreasing, flashes of faces. The hurting they brought to her. Locked away and threw away the key; picklocked, forced open despite her efforts.

She gripped at her head, muscles in her chest constricting, pain in her ribs, feeling the sudden hit of a rescue inhaler forcing her mouth open, cracking against her teeth, the puffs of medicated air filling her airway, travelling down to her lungs. Brought and circulated back up, released out of the nostrils of her nose.

Her arms spasmed, shocks going up her arms, unable to realize during her break, her hands had moved down and were gripping tightly ahold of Shoto's hands. He couldn't keep her flares under control by himself, when his own heart was taking up the heat. The quirk suppressant bracelets were activated again after months of being void.

Fuyumi still held the inhaler to her mouth, Natsuo no longer in the room. Elle didn't know when he left, but knew when he arrived back when one of her doctors were following in after him.

Her eyes widened, the face flashing in her mind, projecting into onto the doctor mistakenly. She tried to scramble off of the bed, the lock of her brother's arms around, criss crossing her arms in front of her chest to keep her from escaping.

He approached, the syringe, the glint, Elle kicking her feet, hurdling her head back in attempt to knock Shoto's face. Sound was coming back to her, she could hear Fuyumi crying, Natsuo trying to calm Fuyumi down, thinking that if Elle saw her older sister crying, it would only upset Elle more.

Shoto kept repeating her name, both names, her old name, disguised name. Adding in her childhood nickname during the last seconds she was conscious. The doctor pushed her head into her brother's shoulder, keeping it there as he stuck the needle into her skin.

---

"She had another episode?" Tsukauchi questions the siblings, not exactly one in particular. "Another?! She has had one before?" Natsuo asks in retaliation.

"A week ago. The only way we managed to get her out of it was by pushing her with the Shinsuos' quirks." Tsukauchi informed them regrettably.

"You didn't think to tell us?! I had literally spoken to you a few days ago Detective! And it was about Sachiko! You didn't think to bring it up?!" Fuyumi questions him in frustration and pain.

"I figured she would have been fine with you three, I didn't think to mention it until you had all bonded more clearly-"

"You fucker!" Fuyumi cursed at him, ready to punch him in the groin, being held back by the younger brother.

"I regret that I failed to realize, I'm sorry that I caused you all pain today." Tsukauchi's words trailed off. His gaze casted over to the hospital bed where Elle slept, under the anesthesia that was given to her in a larger dose than what she needed, but she will be fine. Shoto sat next to her, the side of his head laying on his forearm, holding onto her right hand. He looked drain, Tsukauchi held suspicion that he had felt all of the strong emotions Elle felt. Elle brought him down with her, but it wasn't her fault. It was just the bond that kept on getting stronger now they were reunited again.

"I'm here, they called me and said what happened." Hound Dog walked through the open door, the room getting smaller with the added body in the room.

"Did you grab Miss Shinsuo on your way here?"

"She is just next door. I wouldn't bother her- asking her to enter Elle's mind won't do any good, just repeat the process. Her mind would just break all over again." His attention looked to Natsuo and Fuyumi, briefly recognizing Shoto's presence by Elle's side.

"What were you all doing before she began to show signs?"

"Just talking, it was shortly after she took her meds for the afternoon I think? Yeah, I didn't notice anything odd, Sachiko had been quiet the whole time, until Shoto tensed up and said that Sachiko wasn't doing so well." Natsuo stated with the short version.

"Nothing you talked about that could have triggered this?"

"God no! We may be naive to know how she is feeling, but this isn't our first time, we avoided everything that could have potentially hurt her." Fuyumi's voice cracked, her words reminding the two men that the three knew how to talk with Elle. They did speak to their mother after all.

"Then we are back to square one."

"Gentlemen, my lady." The main doctor suddenly spoke up, moving across the room with a clipboard with papers in hand. "I apologize to interrupt, but I have to make this decision as both a medical professional, and a human being." He began, waiting for their nods before continuing, "My advice- Well... We are unable to take care of Miss Todoroki anymore."

"What?" Tsukauchi questioned first, followed by the older siblings, "What the hell?!"

"Why is this, Doctor?" Hound Dog asks, more calmly. The Doctor sighed heavily, lowering his clipboard, showing the quirk suppressant bracelets. "These are of the highest grade, however, she broke them."

"She.. She d-did?" He nodded.

"If it wasn't for the sedation, this hospital room wouldn't be standing. This can hurt not only her, but our staff as well. This means these do not work for her. Her quirk is too out of control to be contained by these items."

"You are kicking her out, aren't you?" The question didn't come from either of the four responders, the voice being followed to Shoto. The opposite of the girl asleep in the bed standing up from his seat, not letting go of his twin's hand.

"I'm afraid so." His frown deepened, glancing down at her then to his siblings.

"I suggest you to take her to a more suited place. If there is one, we can not do anything else for her here." 'Psych ward.' That is what the three were thinking, knew that's what the doctor was thinking, telling them. Laying it on them softly, it made Shoto's blood boil, taking it as the doctor calling his sister 'crazy'. He knew what he meant, the same type of words were used for their mother. The psych ward was there to help people, but will always be used in a way for the ignorant asses to say things, the fire burning the fuel.

They didn't want to send her there, it won't do her any good there. She needed something else, she needed to not be stuck in a room at all hours of the day, treated like a broken toy.

"Please let me know of your decision on where you want to place her within the week, so I can send all of her information over to them. Please excuse me." He bowed then scurried out of the room like a rat, the other medical staff following after him.

To Be continued

I was listening to Anna Blue during the midst of writing this chapter, can you tell?

Hello! I decided to update today due tooooo.

Dun, dun, dunnnn~

I passed my permit test!

*You all theoretically clap for me*

Thank you, thank you!

I- I was a mess XD.

I was actually fine for the whole day, until, I actually sat in front of the touchscreen to take the test. I started feeling my heart rate go up steadily, until I like got to the 8th question, and glanced down, realizing, that it had displayed on there how many I got right, how many I got wrong, and how many I skipped.

The next question I flunked, then a couple of questions later I failed as well XD.

BUT I only got two wrong, which means I passed the test. I had a hard time getting up, cause my whole body was shaking like a scared chihuahua. Walking past my dad, grabbed my information to finish the whole process of getting a permit, and almost either A. Passing out on the dirty floor of the DMV, or B. Just falling flat on my face and making an ass out of myself.

Neither happened, luckily, because I quickly found a seat to sit in and just waited until the lady noticed I was done. That was not a fun experience but I did itttt.

It's gonna be so much worse when I go for an actual license sfiewidwedjsandj.

Let me know what you all thought about this chapter! Sorry that I didn't put a trigger warning for this chapter, I was thinking about it but it would have sorta ruined the flow and suddenness of Elle having an episode when all seemed fine from the outside via her siblings.

I hope everyone had a lovely day, thank you all for reading, and I will talk to you all later! -Golden
