Chapter 48 - What we can do is...

Shinsuo Hitoshi was pulled out of his class ten minutes after we had last seen him, the purple haired boy staring at the counselor with disinterest. Last time he checked, he didn't ask for the man-dog's help, this was even the first time they have spoken to each other since the first month of him being a UA student. Because that's who Hound Dog was, he acted as their Guidance Counselor, while also on the side a Pro-Hero. He wondered why he was pulled out of class (not that he was complaining, less for him to have to deal with for today).

"What do you need?" Hitoshi questioned him. Hound Dog had to shrug, because honestly, he didn't even know why he himself was needed. Looks like the two would be confused together.

"I was asked to pull you out of class for a few hours, and *woof* yes I did get permission from Principal Nezu. He didn't care."

"Figures." Replied Hitoshi dryly, not surprised. "So why am I being pulled out of class?"

"No idea."

"You are not helping."

"I apologize."

"So can I just go back to being bored and confused in class again?"

"No."

"Alright, fun, I'm going home and taking a nap." Hitoshi began walking away with a small bid of farewell, slightly annoyed at the fact that Hound Dog was not telling him anything as to why he was pulled out of class. So why not just go home and spend a free day off?

Of course Hound Dog was a Pro-Hero, UAs Guidance Counselor, and part dog, he was not gonna let the teenager walk away so easily.

It started with the dog whimpering.

Then the whining.

And Hound Dog grabbing ahold of Hitoshi's legs, leaving Hitoshi in one spot as he tried to pry himself out of Hound Dog's grip, pretty much dragging the over sized puppy behind him.

Yeah, Hitoshi was tired.

Tsukauchi glared at the traffic out in front of him, squeezing the leather steering wheel in frustration, he just wanted to get there. Elle was in trouble, she needed some form of help. No matter how bad that sounded coming from him, who just seemed to have made it worse for her.

He breathed out a heavy sigh, removing a hand off of the steering wheel to rub at his face.

"Come on damn traffic..." He muttered. This may take more then 10 minutes... Unless.

He took out his phone, dialing the number before putting it up to his ear. The caller was picked up immediately it seemed like. "Ah! Tsukauchi! Two calls in one day? You are spoiling me!" The mouse called on the other end.

"Hey, say that you called a police cruiser to UA for an 'emergency'."

"Why? Traffic troubles?"

"Yes."

"Gotcha, I will when questioned. Have fun~!" Nezu hanged up, leaving Tsukauchi to put his phone back in his pocket. He leant over, turning his lights on, the whirling sound of his siren going off. The traffic began moving on either side, leaving him to floor it to UA.

Hound Dog and Hitoshi reluctantly sat in the main hallway of UA, waiting for Tsukauchi. Hitoshi was staring down at his phone, waiting for his sister to answer his text. The message didn't have the 'seen' yet underneath it, so he could only guess that she wasn't around her phone to be checking it every five minutes like usual.

Hitoshi scrolled through a few apps, ignoring any dms he would get from his friends that would be sent to him via group chat (he was surprised they hadn't been caught yet with their phones out). He still doesn't understand the important of having so many group chats for different things, he was tempted to just mute them all except for the main one, however he couldn't because he had that fleeting fear of being left out of anything. Plus if Kaminari suddenly hits him with a random inside joke that Hitoshi doesn't know about because he missed the message in a certain group chat- Kaminari would not have it with him. He would hold him down and explain the meme or joke or whatever the hell it was.

He finally let out a sigh, deciding to just go to his dms because he had nothing better to do, and he didn't want to spend his time talking with Hound Dog. The man-dog was waiting patiently for whoever was picking them up. Hound Dog didn't even tell him who it was. It was setting him on edge, he needed to talk to someone who would be on their phone right now even if they would get caught with it, and get it confiscated.

Reluctantly, he scanned through his dms of unopened messages, some were from the early hours of the morning or the night before, so he ignored the latters, focusing on the ones sent to him this morning. And well, he paused at the sight of someone who had texted him 7 minutes ago.

He opened the message, seeing that it was just text saying, 'Homeless avocado' with an attached picture of a cat inside of a avocado.

Yeah, he didn't see why that would be funny to be honest.

But it was certainly funny to him if he took the time to send it, because when he checked a few of the group chats, he hasn't sent the pic anywhere else 7 minutes ago.

He swiped and tapped back into their message thread, tapping at his screen keyboard.

-Hey -

He waited a few moments, glancing up at Hound Dog who was bouncing his knee and messing with his canines.

His phone buzzed in his hands, telling him he got another message.

-arn't you in class? -

-No, are you? -

-you skip? -

-No, was pulled out. -

-lucky :( -

-I don't know why, Hound Dog just came and grabbed me. -

-needs a personal belly rubber :) -

Hitoshi scoffed at him, purple eyes narrowing.

-No. Isn't Aizawa teaching? -

-mic is, homeroom is already over. -

No wonder his phone hasn't been taken yet.

-where are you? -

-Main hall, waiting for whoever is going to pick me and Hound up. -

-ooooo mystery (∂ω∂) -

-Stop that. -

-(^з^)-☆Chu!! -

He was going to the be the death of him.

Hitoshi didn't have to wait much longer when Hound Dog perked up, standing up straighter, hand tapping the top of Hitoshi's head. "He's here. Come on." He frowned, pushing himself off of the floor and onto his feat, locking his phone and putting it back in his pocket.

They walked out of the school, heading for the gate, and Hitoshi heard police sirens, but they were turned off as quick as he heard them 5 seconds later. He scrunched his face up in confusion, the pair stopping at the gate.

Hound Dog tapped the code in for it to open, leaving them to proceed out, passing Cementos who was standing there boredly.

Out in front halting to a stop was a police cruiser, the driver's side window rolling down (Japanese cars have the driver's seat on the right, if I remember correctly). A not so familiar head poked through, the young but not young man staring at the two. Hound Dog seemed to be excited.

"Tsukauchi~!"

"No time for formalities, in the car, now." Hound Dog whined but agreed, going around the other side of the car while Hitoshi opened the back car door that was on the driver's side, sliding his body in.

Once Hound Dog was buckled in, Tsukauchi began driving again.

A few minutes passed before there were spoken words between the three.

"I'm Tsukauchi Naomasa, it is nice to meet you Shinsuo Hitoshi." Tsukauchi quickly introduced himself. Hitoshi's eyes flickered in recognition of the name, 'Where have I heard that before?'

"Woof! Why did you call on us Tsukauchi?" Hound Dog's uplifted mood seemed to dissipate slowly with each word that he spoke, drifting down an octave.

"I was called this morning for help, for a patient at the hospital where your sister is staying at Shinsuo."

"....Elise? Did something bad happened to her?!" Hitoshi's heart lurched in worry, watching the back of the detective's head shake back and forth, "No, your sister is safe. She spoke to me on the phone after a hospital staff gave her the phone to do so."

"Then what is this about?"

"Todoroki Sachiko, but from what I gather, she still likes to be called by 'Elle'."

"What does she have to deal with me?"

"You were there yesterday at the hospital yes? Elise told me so. Elle has been unresponsive, Elise is unable to get access to her mind or thoughts, but Elle is awake and her vitals are all good. I don't know much more than that, Elise asked me for help since I was the lead detective on the Elle case." 'That's why his name sounds so familiar.' Hitoshi pointed out to himself with a small nod of understanding when Tsukauchi glanced in his center mirror at him.

"Why get me then? Or even Hound Dog?"

"Hound Dog is UAs Guidance Counselor, but he does have a degree in psychology, he may be able to help and get through to Elle enough to break her out of whatever she put herself into. You, on the other hand, will be our back up plan. You are able to brainwash people, make them do whatever you want as long as they answer you." Hitoshi nodded, his frown deepening on his face. He could just hear his sister now, 'Stop frowning so much, you are going to get wrinkles at 20!'.

"What I'm getting at Tsukauchi, is this will be a collaborative effort yes?" Tsukauchi nodded, turning his wheel, the sound of his blinker annoyingly loud but also satisfying.

"Yes... Elle is a... Difficult individual, she has been through a lot. Whatever happened yesterday must have been her breaking point."

"What if, we can't help her? If things go south?"

"We have to help her, do everything we can do for her to the best of our abilities, and maybe even more so beyond that. Elle deserves another shot at this, but if she isn't willing to her damn best, then there is only so much we can do." Tsukauchi informed the two.

Hound Dog mulled over his words, knowing that they may sound a bit harsh, but right now, it was the truth. And the truth was harsh.

"Miss Todoroki must need, and want to become better. In order to be better for herself and those around her. She can't always expect someone to come and help her, she needs to find a way to help herself as well." Hound Dog finished off his sentence with a deep sigh, Hitoshi recognizing the words, slowly coming to the terms of what the two adults in the police cruiser were basically saying. If Elle doesn't accept their help, but also doesn't help herself, there is no saving her. And that was the sad thing about this situation.

Hitoshi couldn't help but think to himself, what if, when he first met Elle, what if he did go with his gut and tell her to stay there with him? What if he went against his morals of freely brainwashing people outside of school grounds, even if it was with good intentions? Would they be in a similar predicament right now?

He couldn't dwell on the what ifs, because all that they could do for Elle was be there for her as much as they could.

To Be continued

:)

And it is Christmas Eve!!!

I was stuck on 300 words for the past two or so days, it has not been fun, thanks Writer's Block for coming around and biting me in the ass again, I appreciate it.

So, I wrote basically every single day with only 4 breaks! So technically 20 days, 20 or so chapters. That's scary to think about.

Now I shall go and hibernate for the rest of the year, and may take a bit of time off from Opposite for the month of January, BUT, I do plan on updating Opposites on Elle's and Shoto's birthday like I did last year. Wait, this year? Welcome to how I don't know how time works.

We started out with around 159 hearts for Opposites at the beginning of December, and now we are leaving off with 188 hearts at the end of December! All because of this mini write-a-thon that has killed my soul and my laptop (I sorry laptop).
