Chapter 35 - Care
Flames danced against each other, fighting over the cold ground, the warm air threatening to break.
The out of breath, the filtered thoughts and ragged minds, the electric blue gazes.
Father and Son.
But here, standing on opposing sides for different reasons than most, they didn't care.
One certainly didn't care if his blue flames didn't just burn him, if he was made into ash.
After what he went through for so many years, that sentence isnt good enough for him. Just like how he was never good enough for Todoroki Enji.
The Pro-Hero didn't know about Dabi's true identity, he could care less, he glossed over the familiarity of the blue hue of his flames, the electric blue gaze that matched his own. He looked past that all, cause to him, his firstborn was dead. He didn't exist on this earth anymore.
They only knew the youngest was alive, his youngest was strong willed and persevered outstandingly. Her survival rate to him was at a higher percentage. While for his firstborn, he was just a failure in all things.
He didn't exist.
Not anymore.
He was even a failure at obeying.
---
"Stop pushing her! Can't you see that she can't breathe?!" A young Touya shouted at his father as he stood in front of his little sister, who was collapsed on the floor, her twin right beside her, pressing her rescue inhaler to her lips to get her to inhale the fumes.
"She is fine, she needs to learn." Enji stated, eyes dead set on the idea of her being able to breathe properly, she was just rebelling, faking an illness, just so she can get out of hard work.
Touya gritted his teeth, standing off against his father as blue flames began to surge through his fingertips, igniting.
"Shoto, get her out of here. I'm going to have a word with father." He began, briefly glancing over his shoulder at the twins, his little sister staring up at him, wide eyes in fear. Little brother nodding, helping her up to her feet, knees wobbling.
Enji was about to yell at them again for disobeying him before blue flames shot out at him, going past his side in warning. The eldest saw at the corner of his eye the twins made their way out of the room, having breaked into a sprint to get out of the dojo.
The door slid close, silence befalling the air.
"You dare disobey me, Touya?!"
"If it means to protect them from you, I will, I shall, and I will persevere." Big words for a boy just entering fresh into his second year of middle school. But his words rang true, purest in the forms of sibling protection. Even if he wasn't their sibling, he would still protect them from the man ten feet in front of him.
"Very well. Then you shall suffer her punishment.".
---
Wild flames, two figures circling, stamina game, acrobatics, strength. Run.
Touya rolled out of the way of his father's fat fist. He clenched his jaw, grinding his teeth to keep himself for speaking any foul language at him, he didn't want to bite his own tongue off.
Enji was having a bit of trouble, he was caught off guard by how quick the villain was keeping up with his attacks, defense and offense being perfectly balanced. He knew when to attack, and when to back off.
He felt like Dabi knew his style of fighting, memorized it to the bone.
But that wasn't going to stop the Number One Hero from defeating him, he wasn't going to let this shrimp of a villain overtake him.
The villain wasn't going to let him take the last thing he had left. He was more than ready for this.
But time stalled when he heard the splintering of ice, snapping his focused gaze away from Enji's form and off to the side, settling on a road of ice that was elevated into a platform about twelve feet in the air, students, classmates, and a girl he swore to protect. No matter what.
Because if it meant he could protect her, he would do anything.
He locked eyes with his little sister, blue meeting grey, the eye patch covering the blue eye that matched his.
That's right. He didn't just share his blue eyes with his asshole of a father, he didn't share his natural red hair with him. He shared them with his little siblings.
He felt relief pass through him, glad to see her safe, a small surge of serotonin lighting up his mind at the sight of her twin sliding to a halt beside her, glaring, lips pressed into a thin line.
The last time he saw him was when he helped kidnap his classmate, and now to see the two standing beside each other. It was like a dream come true to him.
His smile faltered, realizing what this meant.
Enji wasn't after Touya after all. He wasn't after the villain Dabi, his face wasn't plastered across the city as a missing person. He was just an obstacle.
He was after Elle.
Enji didn't plan on taking Elle in nicely, because to him Elle was a villain that had escaped police custody.
He could deal with Dabi later on, but Elle could slip out of his fingers.
He next heard the flutter of red wings above the group of students, it truly felt like more than a minute has passed- But they did just get here, stumbling upon the sight of Dabi fighting Endeavor.
He saw the bird man, he saw how he clenched his jaw. Brows pushed together, wings seeming to have stiffened.
His heart thundered against his ribcage as Endeavor took the chance of silence and pushed himself forward, dead set on capturing Elle. He didn't give a shit if his prodigy stood next to her.
---
"Ow!"
The red head winced, his sister puffing out her cheeks at him, "Hold still! It's just cream!" Fuyumi stated, dabbing the cream on the back of his blistering hands.
"Feels like you are rubbing alcohol on me!"
"I will if you don't stop squirming!" Touya blew a small raspberry in her face, receiving a small little headbutt from her, it wasn't to hurt him though. She was just reminding him that she had him as they sat in one of the bathrooms, the first aid kit on the counter.
After a small amount of silence passed, Fuyumi decided to finally ask him a question she had been holding herself back on asking. "What was the punishment this time?"
"He made me ignite myself over and over again, and if I didn't, he would choke me, make me suffocate by the inhalation of the smoke from his flames burning my clothes." Touya muttered out, blue eyes steeling, a haze passing over them as he thought of the idea of how easy it could have been to not ignite himself, and turn on his father in his own form of punishment.
"Just because you stepped in before ******h****** passed out?"
"She passed out?!" His gaze flickered up to his sister's eyes in worry, Fuyumi nodding solemnly.
"Shoto got her to Mom, then she passed out in her arms. I think she is still sleeping. Mom said not enough air got into her lungs." Touya bit his bottom lip, clenching his fists, nails digging into the palm of his hand, toes curling. "That fucker..."
"Language!"
"It's true Fuyu and you know it! He works those two too damn hard! He was never like that with us!"
"Because we weren't up to his standards, they are." Fuyumi replied back bitterly, she felt horrible of the treatment the twins got from their father, she didn't care too much about how most days her father didn't even spare her a glance, only ordering her to do something for his benefit because he knew that she would do it, she has... It was difficult to explain how she felt whenever he was around. Was it fear? Resentment? Loyalty? It was twisted and fucked.
"How about Sho?" Touya questioned, Fuyumi answering quickly as she leant over and grabbed the small roll of bandages, "He is fine, hasn't talked much since he told me that you stood up for them. He is more worried about *********h**."
"That's right... The twin connection." He reminded himself, lifting up his hand to assist Fuyumi with wrapping the bandage around it.
"Natsu thinks that Shoto can feel when she is having trouble breathing."
"I don't doubt that." Fuyumi tied off the bandage, Touya flexing his hand to see how much movement he had with the muscle. The girl with white hair, plintering bits of red mixed in with the strands of white, moved onto his right hand.
---
He stepped in before he could reach the students of UA, Enji barreling into him before he whipped his shoulder around, gripping a hold of his head and throwing him off to the side with so much force he remarked silently to himself 'Brute asshole...'.
Dabi crashed into a cement wall of the outside skating rink, his head throbbing from the collision. His vision dissipating as he heard yelling, one belonging to Shoto, another to Hawks, and one more that he could easily pick out amongst the rest- His sister's. Elle was cursing out Endeavor, Hawks was no on the ground, standing in front of Elle protectively to get some sense into the fire hero's head.
In and out of consciousness he went.
To Be continued
Woooo I certainly don't miss writing a chapter out the day of it's release-
But heyyyy~ WE HAVE CROSSED 300 PAGES!!!
I have created a book book and it ain't even done yet!
I wasn't able to work on this chapter that much today due to personal life (ahhhh) and health reasons cause I have no energy and just feel tired all the time, and yet I can't sleep so that's funnnn.
There won't be a question for today cause I cant think of any, and would like for you guys to maybe comment down on what you thought about this chapter? It's definitely shorter because of not being able to work on it as much as I liked too, but us crossing the threshold of 300 pages, which calculating that makes it around 70,000 words??? I think, if not please correct me, I'm too tired to do the correct math.
To answer my last question from yesterday- I began reading/writing fanfiction the whole way back in 2012, I was apart of another account on Quotev that my sister and her friend made for us to write a BVB/One Direction crossover fanfiction- Yeah I was one of those.
We stopped using that account, well I did anyway until I wanted to in 2014 have my own account to write on because I was dreaming of different fanfics and wanted people to see them??? I don't really know what my 13 year old self was thinking, cause I freaking hated reading believe it or not. I still don't like reading, something has to really grasp my attention and keep me entertained or else I will not read it.
Anyways I will not be updating tomorrow cause tomorrow I'm planning on getting my mess up of a sleeping schedule fixed up cause I am tired of it (literally) but if you guys want to see more of Elle, go to my TikTok! Cause I'm apparently one of the 'cool' kids now who has a TikTok and cosplays OCs-
TikTok is mayjinxed if you are interested!
I hope everyone has a lovely night/day/afternoon! I will talk to you all on Tuesday! (Wait today is Sunday right-?) -Golden
