Sadie.
Five in the morning and I was already dreading the day. Get up, get dressed, get out. I could hear Nora downstairs, snapping orders into her headpiece. Great. I left my room, walking down the hall to see Michael padding towards the stairs, fully dressed. God forbid anyone in this house look less than perfect at all times.
"Morning, Princess." He hollered.
I faked a smile. "Morning, dad."
Nora peaked around the corner, suddenly with an exasperated look on her face. "Michael, for Christ's sake don't call her that. It's patronizing."
Michael raised hands above his head in surrender, then bowing towards her. Every. Single. Morning.
"Sorry, P-" He winced, jokingly. "Sadie." Nora rolled her eyes.
"You're a fool," She sighed. She wasn't being serious. The only time she ever joked around was with him. Never with me, though. I had to be responsible, being funny was only going to interfere with my priorities and Nora knew that.
"You love it, though." He chuckled. They laughed and left my sight, in separate directions. That's the Sinks for you, back to work. Business as usual.
I looked down at my phone. Late. Already three missed alarms. "Dammit." I ran down the stairs, scurrying out the front door and to my car. I texted my instructor before starting the engine.
Sadie: on my way, sorry
Winona: I'll just keep you a few mins after. Drive safe.
I smiled. Winona was always so careful with me. Nobody else treated me like a child anymore. They were afraid it would make me soft. That's not something I can afford, anymore. Ballet was a cutthroat journey and not a lot of people understood that.
