Chapter 32

I forgot about the damn Christmas decorations! While I looked around everything is so beautiful. Everything with the colors green and red with a beautiful real tree and a fake near the entrance of going up the stairs. I looked at the fire place to see it lit and there was hooks where the stocking will be hanging. The smell of house smells amazing. I wanted to cry, I ran up the stairs into my room to see a good side tree in the corner of my room with ornaments and tinsels all over, as well lights. My mother came in leaning against the door frame. "Isn't it beautiful!" She exclaimed.

I nod my head in excitement, "It is mom  it really is."

She looked around, with a shook of her head she smiled and said, "She really outdid your room. Mine isn't this nice." She smiled at me.

"You think so?" I asked her she just nod.

"Oh yeah, but I wonder why we went out." She questioned.

"It was my fault."

"Your fault?"

"Yeah, I think I said something that drove her overboard. I guess because of that we had to leave. Personally, I find it very stupid." I exclaimed to her.

She just looked at the floor, thinking. Her eyes spacing off, then she cheekily smiled with a chuckled. "Well, I get it now." She told me, "But I am not going to say." She walked away as I looked over at all the Christmas spirit. I scowled under her breath as she left my room. I looked around to see all the decorations. It is all so beautiful; the whole day was just me talking to mom and seeing Zee going in and out constantly in a rush. I guess Xenia forgot some stuff and decided to send off Zee, typical Alpha. The day went slowly beside that, but it nice. Christmas is one of my favorite time of the year.

It's Christmas now, and we all sat around the fireplace. Enjoying our time, we just sat around. Xenia yawning, while Zee is curled up on the chair sleeping. My mother leaning back with coffee in her hands, while I am here watching them all. I looked out the window that was near the dining room in front of the kitchen. I sighed nodding my head in contempt feeling relaxed in all of this. I started to get tired but it didn't really matter we might all fall asleep near the fireplace. I sighed as Xenia opened her eyes to see me. "Did I wake you?" I asked.

She shook her head as she got up and stretch. "Nah, I haven't felt this relaxed in a long time." She smiled at me, grabbing her now cold coffee, she made a face of disgust but shrug her shoulders. I chuckled, she looked at me confused about why I laughed. "What?"

I shook my head, "Nothing." She tilts her head then narrowed her eyes.

"I don't believe you." She mumbled as she took a sip.

I got up as her eyes followed my moves to the kitchen. She just watched not saying anything. I sighed as I heat up some more water for the both of us, "It's warm in here." I told her, but with a laugh, I added: "I am very surprised that you let the house to be warm." I teased her. She didn't say much but she just shrugged her shoulders as a response. I just shook my head as I sat down at one of the bar stools.

She groaned, "I know!" She just laughed as she looks at the counter, it was silence once more. I looked down at the counter to see a small speck of a stain. I just stared at it, drawn into it. When was this place cleaned? I looked up to see Xenia looking at it as well, "Huh, that's new." So this house is usually cleaned. She backed away, "Damn it." She walked up the stairs in almost in wobble. I looked at her, for a moment I didn't know what I was thinking but I just dashed up to her. I didn't know why I ran over to her, I stopped her, she just looked at me with a questioning look but her face is filled with pain. "What's up?" She groaned.

I just looked down for a bit, "Will you be okay? You seem to be weaker and weaker every day." She just looked at me and forced a smile.

"I do? I must look like a zombie, I must get some sleep I guess." She thought out loud, she seems to stumble a bit, I held onto her making me look down. She is hard, I could feel her muscles working but at the same tighten under my grasp. I could feel her breathing through them. She is weak. I looked up to see grasping her head.

"Do you need medicine?" I asked.

She shook her head, climbing her way up the stairs, "Bed... seems right... goodnight... I think ..." She mumbled as she walked up the stairs to her room.

I got worried so I walked behind her, looking back at my mother as well Zee to see them asleep. I looked up to see Xenia holding onto the rail, I ran up to her having her arms over my shoulder, "When was the last time you slept fully?" I asked.

She closed her eyes, thinking, "I think 3 days ago." I looked at her shock, 3 days how is she alive?

"Let's get you to bed," I told her. She just nods her head, so when we walked over to her room, she was already dragging her feet. I undressed her to see the scars of her battles that I have witnessed, she didn't care that she saw, she was too tired to care. She stumbled back sitting on the bed, "Where is your night clothes?" I asked her. She just tilted her head towards where they are placed. She didn't say much but I did understand her. The palms of her hands digging her into her eye sockets, I had to pull them away to noticed that her eyes are dull. Like they were dead, I gulped. I put on her shirt that was short sleeve, she didn't help. I helped her put on her long sweats as she just stared at me, unwanting to move. She was still.

"Thank you." She spoke softly as she breathed heavily, "But I have a favor to ask." She told me. I looked at her confused waiting for her to speak again. She pointed at a pile of blankets, "Can you stay? I have a pile of blankets there. I know it's cold in here, sorry but you can warm yourself up there." She breathed out as she put her palm on her forehead, "I am going to knock out." She said as she just fell back then tossed to the side grabbing a pillow into her arms. She nuzzled into the pillow as she groans then she was out. I sat there, looking at her sleep. The other pillows are in front of her but she decided to sleep sideways. Speaking of sleep I haven't ever seen her sleep before, I watched her as she breathes softly, her body seems relaxed. She curled up against the pillow and put her chin on the pillow. She is like a dog.

I took out my phone to take a picture of her. I chuckled. I was about to get up but then Zee came in closing the door behind him. He looks up at me, and I could feel the smile on his lips. I smiled at him, "Hello Zee, how are you today?"

He shrugs his shoulder as took a seat near me at her desk. "She is finally asleep. She's been worried about the rebellion and the so-called war." He explained but I could feel a sadness in him, "I've been worried, she stays up all night on the search of the people of the rebellion. She even makes sure that the doors are closed and windows are shut. Always out. Always working." He told me, he got up after a while then walked over to her. He moved a piece of hair off of her face. I watched carefully. He just looked down at her. "To be fair with you, I use to love her." He laughed. "I had a major crush on her, she was so sweet and caring that I was drawn to her." He looked at me and there I was, looking at myself but this time I saw beyond the mask. I saw a man who was opening up to me.

"How come you didn't tell her?" I asked.

He faced back down to sleeping curled Xenia, our stressed-out Alpha. "I couldn't. He clenched his fist, then relaxing with a chuckle. "How can I? Her mate passed away, I took over the Beta role. She was kneeling on the gravestone, crying her tears out. She was there for a whole week and all I can do is watch as she mourns for her mate. But that day when I finally approached her, she told me something. 'Let me be Alpha,' I just stood there shock. Like the rest of us, a female Alpha was rare." He sighed, "I touched her shoulder, and I felt that I must let her be the Alpha. Then the words she spoke, gave so much respect towards her till this day. 'I will protect this pack, I will do anything. For him. For all of us.'" She meant every word.

I looked back at our Alpha to see her snuggled up in the pillows, "Do you think she will be okay? I noticed she seems more tired by the minutes." I told him.

He just nods his head, "She is a strong girl, no she is a strong woman." He corrected himself. I could feel him smiling. "Her legacy shall be remembered"

I nod my head of an agreement. I smiled as I got up walking next to him. I put my hand on his shoulder, "She will be remembered."

I could feel him go stiff as he looks at me, I felt his smile as we just walked out of her room. She needs some time to herself. We went back down to the living room to see my mother sleeping, that's good. I smiled as I put a cover over her. I walked back to the kitchen as Zee followed me. "I think this is a good Christmas." He chuckled.

"Why is it usually not?" I asked him.

He shook his head, "No not really, Xenia just puts up the decoration and works all day. She didn't touch a single keyboard or paper today. So yeah it's good." He chuckled.

I smiled, "Now what do we do?" I asked him.

He frowned, "I don't know."

I looked out the window, will this pack; my pack. Will be okay? Will we ever understand what has gotten into all of us? I frowned at the thought. I don't mind, I just worried about Xenia, my Alpha now. I looked down at the counter. I couldn't help but wonder if I belong here. I regret many things now, but at the same time, I shouldn't. If that didn't happen I wouldn't be here today, with her, with him. I glanced up at Zee to see him on the seat next to me, having his head on the counter with his arms dangling. "That looks uncomfortable." I laughed.

He didn't move, "You'll be surprised that there is a cushion in here." He told me.

I am grateful to him, I laughed. "Whatever you say, Helmet Man." I joked nudging him with my elbow.

He laughed, "It is, I swear." He defended. I am grateful of Xenia. "I am being honest, you should try it one day."

I am grateful for my mom. "Hmm, maybe I will." I teased back at him. With the love of the pack, we might be the strongest of them all.
