"Unpopular" and Underrated ABBA Songs.
People Need Love — probably one of the most Christian songs about love there is to this day. Any current song about love is either about a needy lover, sex or a breakup. But we have something wholesome saying how much a woman needs a man when they're married. Which is true. Any kind of love is integral to being human.
He Is Your Brother — okay, so apparently we need a brother's help or some sh*t? It doesn't seem to have as clear a message as People Need Love, but it's still a song with a good background tune and some killer vocals (as expected of these people). I give it a pass mainly because it and People Need Love are kinda telling the same story so are pretty comparable and interchangeable.
Voulez Vous: Oh look, I struck a chord. I said this was unpopular and underrated. Holy sh*t, this is actually good. Especially the extended remix and the Mamma Mia (musical) remix where it's used for a little bit of exposition. I love this song.
The Day Before You Came: the vocals and message is just bland, amounting to such a boring song to listen to. Credit where credit is due, though, because the backing track is suitable. Doesn't make a bland song too epic or too bland. Also, the title doesn't run off the tongue too well.
Under Attack: Have to say something controversial here, I preferred the musical's remix of this song, mainly because it doesn't seem as echoey and the background music is just that much better. It's top notch.
So Long: Why the f*ck wasn't this remixed on either version of Mamma Mia? It suits Donna so much more than even the titular song of both the movies AND the musical. Obviously this song is a bop, enough of a bop that if I were to remake the Mamma Mia franchise, I'd put this in no questions asked. It's just that good.
Thank You For The Music: again, because of how this song added to the musical's plot, I'm gonna put it out there — musical remix was better. However, if we look into the original version of the song, it would definitely suit the tone of a Disney movie because of solely how dream-like the beginning sounds.
Ring Ring: the Single Version sounds like a dog's breakfast, but the remastered version sounds so glorious that it just HAS to be one of my favourites. The story it tells, the background music, the vocals. Just beautiful. It's like comparing the live KK performance of a song to an aircheck version. It's hard to go back to the OG when the remaster sounds that much better.
The Visitor's Cracking Up: strange exposition into good chorus into exposition. The general vibe you get from the verses is nerves and then the chorus shifts into this excited tone and then you know you're in for a wild ride.
-This is the last song I'm reviewing this chapter, so do a quick drumroll.-
Summer Night City: Another case of 'Who the hell decided that this wasn't fit for the Mamma Mia franchise?' I just love the tone this one sets up. Near perfect set up into a general bop of a song.
Listen to these sometime and give thoughts down below! Stay safe!
