Chapter Two
The first incident that drew Jimin's attention, enough to cause him to think that something was happening in the first place happened on a Tuesday evening.
Jin had invited their friend group over for a taco night.
"It's been so long since we've all been together" he'd whined in their group chat.
Admittedly it was true. They'd all been friends for years now and never really had trouble finding time to spend together before.
But the older they get and as they graduate university one by one the harder it was for all of them to be free at the same time for them to make plans.
Jin pointed this fact out as well and with the promise of he and Yoongi making a home cooked meal, one by one each of their friends agreed on a day to meet up.
Tuesday night had been the chosen day and that's how Jimin found himself laughing and catching up with all of his friends in Jin and Yoongi's apartment.
It was fun. He'd missed it; them all being together.
They had just been coming off of spring break and he was excited to hear how everyone spent their time.
(Taehyung, Jungkook and himself were the only ones still in school– he and Taehyung in their last year while Jungkook had one year left– but almost all of their friends still had plans and went on some sort of vacation during the break.)
Jin had been ecstatic to share stories of his trip home to visit his family.
He made the mistake of bringing up that he brought home nearly twenty ounces of strawberries though and before he could even finish his story Taehyung and Hoseok were running for the fridge to find the stash of berries.
Jin had stomped off right after them, yelling complaints of their disrespect followed by pleas that they save a few ounces for at least one of the deserts he'd planned to make with them.
After those three had gone it left just Yoongi, Namjoon, Jungkook and Jimin to continue the conversation.
Namjoon spoke about how he'd gone back home as well to visit his parents and catch up with some of his childhood friends.
Jimin– along with Taehyung and Hoseok– opted for a sort of staycation and ended up just lazing around the city mostly enjoying not having to worry about school (at least for the two students) for a little while.
(Hoseok was just glad to spend time with his busy dongsaengs after work was over.)
After he'd caught his friends up on what he'd been doing, Jimin turned to the man beside him on the couch.
He was interested about what Yoongi had done, if he had done anything in the first place, but he was most curious about his youngest friend.
Jungkook.
His little Jungkookie who he adores so much.
His Jungkookie who seemed to shift a bit anxiously in his spot and was trying very hard to avoid Jimin's gaze.
His Jungkookie who Jimin's actually quite interested to know what he'd been up to because he had been very illusive whenever Jimin would ask him what his plans were.
(Everytime Taehyung or Jimin, or even Hoseok, would ask Jungkook would blush instantly then abruptly begin either gnawing on his lip or picking at his thumb while he avoided looking at them.
After they'd repeat the question or point out he was acting strange Jungkook would change the subject or give some sort of vague answer about knowing he was leaving the city but wasn't really sure where he was going.
Spring break had ended nearly a week and a half prior to them meeting at Jin's so surely Jungkook will be able to talk more about what he'd done. How he spent his time.)
"You went out of town didn't you?" Jimin asks with a tilt of his head.
That's when Jimin saw it. A subtle movement from the other side of Jungkook on the couch.
Jimin's eyes flashed behind Jungkook as he barely leaned forward just as a pale hand snaked behind Jungkook's back to rest on his waist.
Jimin watched as the hold of that familiar pale hand squeezed Jungkook's side gently.
Jimin blinked his eyes a few more times than necessary as he tried to deduce what he was seeing.
It was Yoongi's hand, that much was obvious, but he'd never seen Yoongi do this.
Seen him touch or comfort any of their friends physically this way.
(Because it was obvious this was a gesture to comfort their young friend.)
Jimin didn't have time to process the hand on Jungkook's waist before Yoongi's low drawl could be heard.
"I invited Kook to come back home to Daegu with me."
Jimin's jaw nearly dropped at that as he reflexively leaned away from the couch to peer around Jungkook's frame to stare at Yoongi.
"Really?" Namjoon asked then, sounding surprised but not nearly as much as Jimin when the younger of the two followed up with a question of his own.
"Why?" Jimin asked in awe.
Yoongi seemed a bit offended at Jimin's question though if the scowl he'd shot him was anything to go off of.
Jimin stood firm, unyielding to the older's glare.
It was a valid question! This was a completely unexpected piece of news. Such a random thing for Yoongi to have done.
(He's never done that for any of their other friends. He and Taehyung would share travel expenses to save money if they were going to visit their respective families at the same time and chose to drive there together but Yoongi's never extended an invitation to travel to Daegu the way he's stated he had with Jungkook to any of them before.)
"Yes," he'd answered Namjoon without moving his annoyed stare from Jimin.
"We had fun..." Jungkook suddenly voiced in a quieter voice, drawing Jimin's attention back to the younger just in time to see the tip of his ear along with his cheek on his right profile dust that adorable shade of pink they do when he's embarrased– or has too much attention on him– as he sagged his shoulder.
But it wasn't him just sagging his shoulders. More than him becoming less tense too. Subtle as well.
So subtle that he would have missed it just as Namjoon had if he wasn't watching as close as he was.
Jimin saw Jungkook's weight shift in his seat, his hips shifting just centimeters in Yoongi's direction to get closer to the man, giving him better access so he could press himself closer to Yoongi's side.
(Jimin asked Namjoon later in a round about, totally discreet way if he noticed their two friends acting a bit off. To his disappointment, Namjoon said he hadn't.
Instead Namjoon randomly brought up something about Soekjin and Hoseok– about seeing them at the movie theater or something together?– but Jimin wasn't paying attention.
He was too busy trying to decide if he was crazy and just seeing things. If he was making up something going on between his two friends that wasn't really there.
He concluded that he wasn't. Deep down he knew he was right.)
"That's good, JK. I'm glad hyung was able to convince you to leave your cave of a bedroom to travel and get some fresh air," Namjoon chuckled, sounding more playful and teasing now.
Jungkook didn't answer and after that Yoongi and Namjoon picked up on a conversation about- well, Jimin wasn't really sure.
He wasn't paying attention to them and doubted he'd be able to add anything of substance to their conversation anyway.
Instead he found himself watching Jungkook out of the corner of his eye.
His face had relaxed, him feeling obviously relieved at not being asked for details on his vacation any longer, and a soft express played on his features.
He was toying with the hem of his shirt, picking at a loose thread but he was definitely feeling better, and it was all thanks to Yoongi it seemed.
As soon as their other three friends came stumbling back into the living room, Hoseok with a bowl of strawberries with the stems cut off for them all to share, Jungkook straightened so he was sitting tall, back how he had been when they'd left minutes ago.
Yoongi's hand had been removed as well.
After that night, Jimin spent far too much time thinking back on the scene.
The whole thing nagged at him. He wasn't even sure why. Still isn't.
What he does know that at this point he is hellbent on figuring out if there's more going on with them than they let on.
