Chapter Four

Sat at a table off to the side of the intimate little eatery, Taehyung and Jimin have made sure to have the entrance within view as well as most of the dining area, hoping that wherever their friends are seated they will be able to see them.

The notification Taehyung saw had the lunch set for one o'clock so Taehyung and Jimin made sure to get there before that.

They had barely gotten their order placed before Taehyung nudged Jimin's foot, telling him he could see Yoongi.

Jimin had whipped his head around so fast he was a little dizzy. As soon as his eyes focused, he rested them on Yoongi.

Taehyung and Jimin exchanged a quick look of mutual excitement before looking back at their friend.

They watched as the hostess approached him, seeing Yoongi wave his hand slightly, saying something Jimin and Taehyung obviously can't hear from their table.

"What did he say?" Jimin asks, turning to Taehyung.

"I'm not Spider-Man. I don't have super hearing," Taehyung voices with a scoff.

"Don't you know how to read lips?" Jimin quirks a brow. He swears his best friend knows how to do that.

"When have I ever lead you to believe that I can read lips." Taehyung deadpans.

Jimin rolls his eyes, exasperated. "Excuse me for thinking you're more talented than you actually are."

Taehyung scowls for a beat, looking immensely unamused before his eyes flit back towards the door over Jimin's shoulder.

"Kookie's here."

Again, Jimin spins around in his chair.

(Maybe he's not so great at being discreet after all because he definitely isn't doing a good job of hiding his obvious leering...)

Jimin smiles as Jungkook wraps his arms around Yoongi's neck, pressing his cheek to Yoongi's while Yoongi embraces him as well.

Jimin nearly coos when Yoongi takes Jungkook's hand in his as he walks them to the station where the hostess is stood.

After a short interaction, Jimin and Taehyung watch her pick up two menus gesture for Jungkook and Yoongi to follow behind.

The two men follow obediently and luckily they are sat still a fair distance away from where Jimin and Taehyung are but still within view.

Within minutes it is made very apparent to Jimin and Taehyung both that this is in fact a date and not just a friend lunch.

"Look at hyung's face," Taehyung sighs dreamily. "I've never seen him look at anyone like that before."

Jimin nods in agreement, unable to look away from their two friends. The maybe couple.

It's true. Yoongi looks like a lovesick puppy and, although Jungkook's back is to Taehyung and Jimin, Jimin would bet Jungkook has a similar expression.

Jimin watches as Yoongi props his chin up onto his palm, resting his elbow on the table as he reaches out his free hand towards Jungkook.

Jungkook has been talking, rather animatedly if his hand gestures are anything to go off of while Yoongi has been hanging on his every word.

Jimin doesn't think he's ever seen Yoongi's face look so soft. So open and just- in love. So obviously in love.

Jimin's heart is overflowing with love and happiness for his friends and he nearly jumps out of his seat and runs over to declare his complete support of their relationship when Yoongi raises Jungkook's hands to his lips, placing a soft kiss on his knuckles.

"Tae!" Jimin whisper yells in pure giddiness as he spins back around. "They're so fucking cute!"

"What did you call them before?" Taehyung smiles, just as bright and happy as Jimin's. "Sugakookie?"

"Yeah! You know, cause of hyung's stage name and then Kookie as in-"

"Yeah, Chim. I managed to piece that together," Taehyung rolls his eyes with a laugh.

"Well," he says then, glancing again at their friend's table. "Looks like the mystery's solved."

Jimin claps his hands happily.

"I wonder when they'll tell everyone about them dating."

Jimin's smile dims just a little.

He hadn't thought of that...

Jimin and Taehyung surely aren't going to break this news– however amazing it is– to their friends.

Yoongi and Jungkook are the most private of their group.

It wouldn't be fair for anyone but the two of them to officially announce if they are together or trying out dating or whatever they're doing.

He's glad he was right about them acting closer, he guesses. But it's a bittersweet feeling too because he has to wait until Yoongi and Jungkook come forward on their own to actually talk to anyone besides Taehyung about it.

Damn.

Well, no matter. It doesn't change the fact that he's happy for them. So ridiculously happy.

"They'll tell us when they're ready," Jimin sighs with a gentle smile.

Taehyung opens his mouth to say something more but is interrupted with their waitress bringing them their food.

The food is delicious, distracting really, and they find themselves more focused on eating, commenting every once in a while about how good it is, only stealing one or two more glances of Yoongi and Jungkook.

The two– the maybe/probably couple– are truly in their own little world and it's seriously adorable.

When their plates have been cleared from the table Jimin turns to see that Yoongi looks to be in the middle of his meal, which means Jungkook possibly is too.

"We would have to walk past them if we left now," Jimin comments, turning back to Taehyung. "Guess we'll just have to wait until they leave before we head out."

Taehyung shrugs. "Fine with me."

Silence settles over them after that. It isn't awkward. It never is with the two of them, both taking this as an opportunity to think to themselves. To process everything.

"Have you noticed anything off with Hobi lately?"

Jimin's eyes snap up from where he'd been staring aimlessly at the white tablecloth.

"What? Off how?" He furrows his brows.

Jimin leans forward in his seat, body quickly filling with anticipation as Taehyung dons that same mischievous look he had before.

"With he and Jin both actually."

"Hobi and Jin?! No way!"

Taehyung nods with a cheek splitting grin.

"You really need to pay more attention to our friends, Chim. Even Joon noticed."

"Joonie knows about them?!" Jimin gasps, wide eyed.

"Yeah! Said he saw them at a movie theater a few weeks ago just the two of them and when he walked up to say hi they got all flustered and awkward. Like they'd been caught doing something they shouldn't or something."

Jimin's jaw drops.

Namjoon had mentioned something about Hoseok and Jin and the movies the day Jimin asked him about Jungkook and Yoongi but Jimin ignored him...

Now he's finding out he likely missed out on a colossal piece of news! Damn him for not listening better.

Before he can beat himself up about not paying closer attention to Namjoon that day, Taehyung speaks up again.

"Something's been going on with them since before I noticed anything with Yoongi and Kookie."

For God's sake! Here Jimin was thinking he was so observant and smart. Apparently it's the opposite.

"Details, Tae! Details!" Jimin bounces in his seat.

"Okay, okay, keep it down," Taehyung shushes him as he leans his elbows on the table to be closer to Jimin.

"Let me tell you about Jinseok-"

"Nope," Jimin waves his hands in the air dismissively, nose scrunched as he shakes his head in disapproval. "Absolutely not. I motion to change that name effective immediately."

Taehyung scoffs in offense. "No way! I didn't say anything about your dumb name for Yoongi and Kookie!"

"That's because it's a good name!" Jimin huffs in annoyance, voice a bit louder than before.

He sees Taehyung's expression falter a little, his mouth clamping shut as his eyes stay fixed over Jimin's shoulder, but he ignores the change in his behavior for the moment.

He's too annoyed by the comment.

"Sugakookie is adorable! They are adorable. They deserve a cute couple name that reflects-"

"Sugakookie?" Someone giggles over Jimin's shoulder, breathy and familiar, and Jimin freezes.

"I guess it could be worse," a deeper voice comments next and despite the tone sounding more neautral than upset, Jimin immediately feels like a child being caught with their hand in the cookie jar.

Jimin doesn't turn around, only lifting his eyes to shoot a pleading look at Taehyung, silently asking him to do something. Anything!

"Hi guys," Taehyung voices a bit hesitantly. "Fancy seeing you here."

"Yes. I'm sure it's an amazing coincidence that we've run into each other like this," Yoongi deadpans.

The air stills around them after that, awkward tension building by the second.

Jimin has yet to speak. He needs to say something but his mind just doesn't seem to want to catch up. Doesn't seem to want to work with him.

"Have you already eaten?" Jungkook inquires hesitantly.

"We have. Finished just a bit ago..." Taehyung answers, clearing his throat.

It goes quiet again and finally, finally, Jimin speaks up.

He doesn't say what he'd like to, not even close, but it's something.

"Hobi and Jin-hyung?"

He finally turns towards where Yoongi and Jungkook are standing over him.

Jungkook's eyes are as wide as dinner plates and Yoongi just looks confused which is understandable because, why is that what Jimin's mind decided to have him say in this exact moment?

"What?" Yoongi questions.

"Have you, um..." Taehyung clears his throat, drawing everyone's attention to him. "Noticed anything o-off with them?"

Yoongi narrows his eyes, only pausing for a second or two before saying, "I think whether there is or isn't anything 'off'' with them is between the two of them. If they have anything they'd like to share at some point that's up to them."

His tone is serious, making it obvious his words have a double meaning.

"Right..." Taehyung says, shrinking in embarrassment and Jimin does the same.

"Anyway, we should probably get back to our food," Jungkook stammers, turning to Yoongi. "Before it gets cold."

Yoongi hums.

He doesn't say anything after that. He hears footsteps seconds later and turns around to see Yoongi walking back to the table.

"Don't worry about him. He's not as upset as he seems," Jungkook assures softly.

"I'm sorry that we crashed your lunch," Jimin apologizes, unable to look at Jungkook.

He feels bad. Not just about being caught, but that they went so far as to spy on their date.

This was a stupid idea.

"I'm sorry too," Taehyung adds.

Jungkook nods. Quiet again falls around them after that.

"Well, you'd better get back," Taehyung says with a dry chuckle. "Don't want your food to get cold, remember?"

"Of course, yeah," he turns briefly to look over at where Yoongi is sat before looking back at his two friends.

"I'll be home later... we can- um, talk then?" He asks, looking between Taehyung and Jimin.

"Sure," Jimin stammers, unsure of what else he can answer.

"Sounds good," Taehyung answers and after that, Jungkook is walking back to their table.

"Oh my God, that did not just happen! What is this, some sort of alternate universe where we live in a K-Drama or what?!" Taehyung rushes out, reaching for his water glass to take a large gulp.

"I don't even fucking know," Jimin comments back, reaching for his own glass of water.

"I think we need to retire from the spy business. It's too stressful," Jimin huffs.

Taehyung watches him thoughtfully before nodding.

"I agree," he says.

His cup is still in his hand. Jimin raises an inquisitive brow when Taehyung raises it in a toast.

"To retirement."

Jimin raises his glass, clinking it softly against Taehyung's. "To retirement."
