Chapter 8: Hesitance...

~~Mack~~

"Come on guys, get it together! We can't just let her handle all three of them!" The Red Ranger shouted as he watched his teammates struggle to stand back up.

"They're too powerful!" Shouted the Pink Ranger, she and everyone else did their best to return to their feet. The only ones barely standing now were Mack and Tyzonn, debating whether or not to watch the rogue clad in black, face off against all three.

The Fearcats surrounded her, but their presence hardly fazed her. Her anger visibly shook her fists as one clenched tightly onto the pole. Mig, who attempted to step closer, directed a claw toward her staff.

"You've made it pretty clear that you want us dead! But your words won't stop us! Especially not with a staff!" The green one exclaimed and tried to intimidate, but the Rangers knew better.

They could tell he was a little shaken from her power if it wasn't for the nervous step back, that he made just then after his hand lowered.

Mack watched the rogue with Heterochromia eyes on her helmet, the emotionless stare only added to the dangerous vibe she gave off. When he saw her head move slightly about, he could tell she was thinking.

"I never said I wanted you dead. I said... You're already Corpses. You're just walking – and I can fix that." He and his friends heard it, the growl in her voice when she spoke indicated how much anger she was holding back.

Now would be a great time to release Ronny! Why isn't anyone going over to save her? They're distracted! Mack's attention went from the cats to Ronny a few times, before peeking at Tyzonn and seeing him trek closer to their backsides.

"I'm pretty sure Corpses can't feel. And I can feel plenty. Especially when you stare at me with those interesting eyes.~" The subtle tilt of Mig's head went ignored, as Mack watched the woman spin her staff skillfully and crouch into position.

However, when Tyzonn nodded at the Assassin when she saw him, he sprung and kicked at Mig, which threw him back and knocked the device from his paws.

"Tyzonn, get my Tracker!" Hollered Ronny. As if on cue, the blonde looked over and saw the device on the ground.

He wasted no time rolling over to it, picking it up, and pulling it back to be thrown. "Ronny!" The moment he threw it, it flew over everyone's heads.

Had Mack been watching the rogue in black nearby, he would've seen her position falter at the sight of the girl kicking the Tracker back up and catching it within her bound hands.

"Overdrive Accelerate!" In a flash of light, the girl quickly donned her yellow suit and turned to grab the mirror. "Oh! Get back in there!" When she grabbed the mirror that protruded several hands, she tried to shake it in hopes of some miracle.

"Hey, put that down!" The green cat tried but to no avail.

It all happened too quickly for the Fearcats to move, even more so when the Assassin growled beneath her breath and directed the Glaive end of her staff at Mig's windpipe.

However, Tyzonn ran and leaped high, extending some silvery liquid and hardening it to a point. Straight into the mirror, fragments fell when he smashed it. "Yes!" Cheered the yellow Ranger, before she nodded at the blonde man and earned the same gesture.

The Assassin, on the other hand, wandered to Ronny's side and flipped her staff threateningly to the Stake End. "I'll freeze them in ice and smash them into pieces." The Assassin quietly spoke, to which Ronny and Tyzonn looked at questionably.

"I can't believe this!" Cheetar fumed. He was dumbfounded that the Assassin backed them up, or so Mack assumed.

"He destroyed our army!" Mig joined his buddy and glared at the blonde man, being just as furious about the issue as his allies next to him.

Now! While they're distracted! Mack saw an opening and prepared himself, letting out a shout, "Defender Vest!" Within seconds he equipped himself with a different mode to his suit. An armored vest donning the Overdrive symbol on the front and a two-handed gun had materialized. "Believe this – Drill Blaster!" The moment he sent a powerful shot, Cheetar jumped in the way of Mig with arms sprawled and took the hit.

Down went the gray cat on a knee, holding himself and grunting from the pain. "I'll use the last of my energy, to destroy them for good!" Over his shoulder to his green and orange friend, to the Power Rangers who bundled together, he announced. Ready to go all-out even if it would cost him his life. Standing up, out came a moral booster from the gray cat, "Long live the Fearcats!" From there he stripped his small form and grew large.

Mack pulled up his tracker and panicked when he saw the giant cat looming over the horizon at them. "We need the Zords!" However, after a moment of waiting for the battle machines to arrive, his attention went back to the woman who stood guard around Ronny.

Their silent stare carried a hidden conversation and when she gripped her staff to get back into position, he smiled behind his helmet. "Hey, lady! Tyzonn!" He started and after the Zords arrived, Ronny ran away with a hesitant wave goodbye to the Assassin and joined him at his side. The subtle cock of her head and the quiet, annoyed hum, were enough for him to continue. "You think you can keep these two busy?"

"Just go!" The Assassin's words were laced with anger when a growl from deep within her throat accompanied it. From a twist of her pole, she swiped across at the two remaining Fearcats and watched them leap out of the way of a burst of ice that blanketed a good distance.

After the blonde man ran to her side, Mack saw his chance to do just as the woman said. "Thanks! Come on, Ronny!" Mack's grin broadened when he nodded to her and glanced at his friend before leaving with her and entering their Zords.

~~Iseldur~~

Retracting her staff, Iseldur held her weapon like a dagger and charged at the orange one once Tyzonn barreled after the cats with a few swings of his staff.

The moment the cats jumped over his poor attempt at a leg sweep, she slid across the small distance close to the ground, spun, and kicked out her leg. In doing so, Mig fell on a knee, but when she looked up, the orange one had kicked him pretty hard and sent him away a couple of feet.

The new cat immediately charged after her, yet with each swing of his claws she'd deflect him by using his strength against him. Left swing – she lifted her blade to block, right swing – she coiled her arm around his and directed it away. "Piss off!" She screamed, grabbed both of his forearms and hoisted herself to avoid a straight kick from the cat.

Through grunts of anger from her and deep growls from the orange cat, they fought. As she kept herself balanced on his arms and brought her legs around his neck, he began to tip backward. "Mig!" Through a choked breath, the orange cat called out and tried to pry her tightening thighs off of his throat.

Once she looked in the green one's direction, she back-flipped off of her target and avoided a harsh blast of green from the said cat. These two are pissing me off! The second her head perked in Tyzonn's direction, she saw the orange cat and Mig throw him aside as if he were a paperweight.

That didn't stop him from standing back up and pointing a finger at the two. "We won't let you escape!"

"You will fail!" Iseldur could tell the orange cat was trying to discourage him, it was pretty obvious. However, she noticed his nervous glance toward her before tauntingly walking back to the blonde.

She saw it, pain in the man's eyes when he looked down in thought. They are trying to make an opening... Damn cats! In her mind, she spat, charged after them, and extended her staff. With electricity fueling her speed, she zapped in front of the blonde a bit too late.

"Goodbye, Mercurian!" Announced the green feline when he spun his blade and sent a streak of green energy.

Iseldur wasn't as quick but she managed to catch half of the energy with the Stake end of her weapon. Its force was powerful enough to scoot her back at a snail's pace and made her give out a lengthy cry, while she gradually turned her staff.

With enough strength, it was deflected away and it had cut through some rocks on the cliffside above them. Ruble crashed and thankfully missed them as she panted and eyed the duo dangerously. "The **** was that for?! You could've walked away you jacka-" Every time she tried to swear, a few rocks would crash loudly near her and comically cover them up, which she grumbled at.

"Walk away? Everyone was in our way of bringing back our brethren!" Mig angrily started with a few steps forward. "Why assist these pathetic Rangers? Your skills and efficiency could benefit us. And..." He trailed for a moment with a slight cock of his head. "I'm single.~" Mig adjusted the grip on his blade and chuckled, before shifting his weight on one leg. "Hmm? Over her shoulder, she followed the cat's gaze albeit irritably and growled under her breath when she saw Tyzonn's remains afloat behind her. "Hahaha! He's all broken up about it!" Not only he but also the orange cat laughed at his joke.

"You abstract, hairless, plastic cats!" Through a growling scream, she twirled her staff, whirled in place, and sent a streak of intense fire that could cut down many things in its wake.

Mig, however, lifted his staff once the orange one rolled out of the way, and cut through the fire. "Hahaha! I love your temper!" With his arms outstretched and a confident step closer, he gave her a two-finger salute before turning away. "This won't be the last time we meet! And hopefully next time, there will be less fighting and more chatting.~" From there he strode away and his new buddy slowly did the same with his dark eyes lingering on the Assassin.

Iseldur sat down next to a puddle of silver on a rock and rested her elbows on her knees when she leaned over. A sigh escaped her helmeted mouth at the thought of running into them again, the supposed death of the blonde man barely bothered her since she didn't know him. When the goth's attention moved to the puddle, she watched it shimmer, and move on its own like oil in water. "Looking a bit melted there." A joke slipped out and couldn't help but give a small chuckle at it.

I'm so tired... An exhausted brief thought occurred. She could feel her stomach tightening and hurting from not eating anything all day. And hungry. Groaning at the uncomfortable sensation, she was about to stand when she saw the colorful group of five make their way down a hill covered with rocks in her direction.

"Tyzonn!" Ronny called out, who was soon followed by her friends.

"Tyzonn!" The girl in black and pink did the same, looking and searching everywhere for him. The two other boys had done the same, calling out his name and examining the area.

"Hope they didn't get him..." The boy in black and red mumbled, and when they drew closer to her they all paused. Awkwardly and nervously staring at her from the small distance.

"Y- You..." The one in black and pink hesitantly stepped closer with knitted brows expressing her unease.

All they received was an annoyed sigh until the one in black and blue spoke up with concern. "Guys, look!" The Asian male sprinted to Iseldur's side, along with his friends. She couldn't help but groan and stand to give them some room to look.

"It's Tyzonn..." The Pink Ranger concluded.

Hyne began to walk away and overheard their conversation about needing to save him. "Oh-- we have to save him!" Ronny spouted with evident worry.

"How? He's an alien! We don't know anything about his genetics or his planet." Confusion was set in the Red Ranger's voice when he explained, but the goth hardly cared enough to continue eavesdropping and was gradually leaving earshot.

"No, but we have to do something!" Again Ronny announced. Loud enough to pierce the distance that grew larger between the Rangers and her.

That was the last bit she heard until their voices became nothing more than murmurs. "Hey!" Through the increasing gap between them, came the Red Ranger's call.

Greeeat... Just great. An eye twitched behind Iseldur's helmet when she paused mid-step and kept her back to them. I knew I shouldn't have intervened. But they're kids! I had no choice! Fists clenched at her sides from the expanding annoyance inside her mind. When she listened to the boy's footfalls become louder, she hesitated and barely turned her head toward her shoulder.

"Hey... I... Wanted to thank you for helping us out." Began the boy who stepped around to get in front of her and offered a smile. "You stalled them long enough to let us catch up, and you helped us when we were all down." As she listened to him, all she could think of was wanting a nap and something to eat since the pressure in her stomach demanded food.

"The name's Mack and..." He began and lifted a hand to offer a shake. "I'd like to repay you." He waited and waited, as his friends stood quietly behind her with expectation. When she refused to speak and grumbled, he continued. "Look – I know you're not evil. You would've attacked us if you were. And I'm pretty good at judging a person's character..." When he trailed and wiggled his offered handshake as a gesture for her to take it, Iseldur still didn't.

Well. At least this kid's got some manners. For a moment, the goth took a small pause in her mind and practically rolled her eyes at his words. A good judge of character? Hah... He has no idea who he's talking to. I've killed so many people and bloodied my hands, there's no way there's any good in me. Shaking her head and sighing, the goth trudged past him. But when her stomach protested and roared the loudest it has ever roared, she halted abruptly and by the sounds of it, knew the boy heard it too.

"Haha!" The Black Ranger laughed at the awkward growl from her tummy and stood next to Mack, yet she didn't look to see their expressions. "Someone's hungry."

"Why don't we treat you to a meal? At my house?" Mack implored when he stepped to her side again and gave her a warm smile. "Spencer makes some pretty awesome tea.~" he added with a gentle nudge of his elbow to her shoulder.

Growling beneath her breath, Iseldur was weighing her options, and took her a bit to decide. "Fine... But I'm not staying any longer than I have to! Don't want some kids getting involved with my issues!" Her arms folded, adamant on her decision, and stared at the Red Ranger who cheered and victoriously clasped hands with the Black Ranger.

"Cool! I'll introduce you to my Dad after we get Tyzonn some help. You can follow us if you want! Or we can give you a ride!" When he ran over to the liquidized Tyzonn, her head tracked him like a camera and turned around accordingly.

If they start pestering me with questions like Frosty The Snowman did, I'm out. I'm just coming along for some free food and drink... A simple nod to herself was made, while she watched the group of five collect Tyzonn's remains.
