Chapter 4: Flustering emotions?
What the Rangers had witnessed would be difficult to erase from their minds. Before the whole mess, everyone had spoken to Dax when he arrived and conversed about the role he received. However, after the strange woman appeared they were all caught by surprise.
Rose, Ronny, Mack, Dax, and Will, glanced at each other before returning their attention to the confused horde of lava lizards. "She must have been the one who Moltor and Flurious referred to," Mack spoke up, rather concerned and uneasy over how quick she was to kill the armored rogue.
"She was brutal! How could she be so ruthless?! She impaled him approximately eleven times!" The look Rose had when she gave her opinion on the matter, was that of disbelief and fear. Her heavy breaths and a thick gulp of saliva proved it that much more.
"Yeah... Gotta admit-- she has anger issues. Her screaming when she was doing that was unreal." Will agreed with a nod of his head and peeked at Dax, who gave him a stern stare.
"We're wasting time. Hurry!" With urgency, Mack reminded them, and soon they all did their routine. However, when a cry came out, a blast was sent in their direction and it knocked them all against the jeep behind them.
"Bad enough a speed battle broke out and almost ruined everything! I don't need another problem! Don't try to crash this party!" The new strange creature who appeared near the edge of the cliff, was soon accompanied by three other lava lizards.
"Time to Ranger-up!" Ronny announced and took her morpher from her shoulder. Everyone followed along and did the same, getting into position, with an 'Overdrive Accelerate!' spoken in unison.
Within a flash of light, they were ready to go. Now donning their suits, they fought against the lizards. Mack flipped into the air and spun to kick a lizard's arm away from him, and it wasn't long until more of those things came along to try and overwhelm him.
Dax threw himself at one of them and tackled it to the ground, rolling down a small hill before he got back to his feet. Some kicks and a few flying in the process.
All of the Rangers fought to try and get rid of the pests. Had they known that Miratrix and Kamdor ran for it, they would've done what they could to stop them. That was until Ronny saw them run to a cave opening. "They're heading to the cave!" Ronny yelled in hopes of the others hearing her over the cry of lizards.
"They have the parchment!" Yelled the blue ranger who watched the two enter the cave. And with a quick 'Get it, Dax!' from Mack, the blue boy didn't waste another second dawdling about. The moment he tried to run after them, the odd creature from Moltor's army blocked him.
"Not so fast!" From there, he and the creature fought, but the boy was quickly subdued and forced to the ground.
~~Later~~
"We almost had him!" Into the underground base, strode Ronny, with the others in tow. Failure was written on their faces when she continued her rant over the loss. "Those slippery slugs slipped away!"
Andrew watched them approach, as each step carried an air of defeat. "Where's Dax?" As much as he'd like to stand around moping over the failure and feel sorry for their loss, he needed to keep his head straight.
"Uh. He's uh..." Mack began for even Rose and the others knitted their brows worriedly over something that they thought they could hide. "He's doing—" Andrew saw it, the look on his son's face when he was trying to come up with a lie to excuse his friend.
"At the audition..." He was disappointed. To know one of his Rangers didn't listen to him brought a small wave of anger that reflected on his face. "I explicitly told him not to go," With a gesture of his hand, he finished.
"How did you know?" Asked Rose, who looked about as confused as everyone else.
"I own the studio that's making that film." With as much money as he has, it wasn't much of a surprise to the Rangers when Andrew answered. "Dax chose to disobey me. And doing so disrespected you all." Being in control of his anger was never easy, but being a Dad gave him some experience in keeping it down even in situations like this.
"Now, wait a minute, Mr. Hartford." Rose began, in hopes of easing some of his disappointment. "It was Dax's dream to be an actor. He just wanted to audition to see if he was good enough. With... A little encouragement from..." As soon as he made a 'oh, please continue' expression, she hesitated. "Well-- a lot of encouragement from me. I'm sorry." After she explained, Hartford was a little upset with the girl knowing she would involve herself with it and push him into it.
"Apology accepted." With a nod, he accepted, before continuing. "Let's hope Dax realizes what is really important. Without any encouragement." He sure hoped the boy would learn soon because if a situation called for it, and Dax was stuck at the film production, there would be no aid from him.
"Um... Another thing." Ronny awkwardly stepped in and glanced at Rose, an obvious sign of worry etched onto her face. "We ran into this new villainess." If the situation wasn't bad enough, hearing that worsened it.
Andrew's brows furrowed when he shifted his weight and stared at the others. "Did she attack you? What did she do?" Now worried for the teens, his brown eyes darted between her and the others once more, before meeting Ronny's.
"Actually..." Mack stepped up and lifted a finger before he continued. "She didn't do anything. Well... She did, but not to us." When he tried to explain, Rose was the one to help describe the whole scene they witnessed.
"She was very fast. Her body was cloaked in some sort of electricity and she chased after another person, a man in black armor. The weapon she used could control ice... Which is weird, because you said-- Mack heard Moltor and Flurious, say something about her using heat." Confusion settled on her face when she pondered and moved her gaze to the floor.
"And-- she was angry! I mean really angry. The way she stabbed the man... Rose said that she counted roughly eleven times before she stopped. She was screaming during it too. I've never seen someone so brutal before..." A small tinge of fear clouded both Ronny's and everyone else's faces when Andrew listened to the explanation.
"W- What? So-- she wasn't after Kamdor and Miratrix, or Moltor like we were?" With a finger to his chin, he pondered their words carefully and looked over at the large screen. "Hold on. I'll see if I can pull up a recording of the battle before you guys appeared." The same finger gestured toward the monitor next to them and he was quick to type and navigate his computer.
Some clicks and taps later, he brought the recording up and watched. He couldn't believe his eyes, at how ruthless she was. The chase all around the walls of the cliff sides and the clearing was so fast, that he had to slow the video down to see what was happening.
Everyone behind him was stunned to silence. They watched her swing her blade to cast a wall of curved, thick ice and skate along it as if it were a raised wave from an ocean. How she flew past the top of it from the momentum, flipped her blade around for the glaive part to face her target, and made the weapon extend into a staff. When she dove powerfully to the ground, dust stirred and electricity sparked around.
"I'd... Hate to see you guys fight her." Gulping, nervous beads of sweat trickled his brow, as he watched her repetitively stab the man in armor with a ferocious scream. "Nevertheless-- she ignored you and moved on, right? So... She's not out to fight you or anyone else by the looks of it." Andrew concluded by how she ignored Kamdor's outburst and flipped him off, and the Rangers when she was about to leave. What's she after, if she's not going for the crown or its jewels? A momentary thought kept him slightly distracted, until, Ronny chimed in.
"Yeah... She just zapped out of sight-- literally. Electricity sparked around her and when she disappeared..." The blonde trailed and looked at the screen when the supposed villainess vanished with a blue flash and a lightning crack in her wake. "That happened," She added with a gesture of her hand.
"I see. Then-- stay clear of her. We don't know who she is or what we would be dealing with if we chose to fight her, or stop her from doing anything that could be harmful to society." As the coordinator, Andrew felt it was his duty to ensure the Rangers' safety and to study how their opponents worked.
"Alright." Mack nodded, as did everyone else, and it wasn't long until they left the Dad to himself.
Andrew stepped away from the screen an inch after pausing the video at that point, where she stared at the Rangers in their uniforms. With a slight cock of his head and an arm over his chest, he pressed a finger to his chin. Contemplating and staring closely, he tapped a button to play the video at a very slow speed. Blinking once, twice, a few more, he noticed something none of the others had and that was her reluctant movement before she left.
"Wait a minute." He rewound the recording a bit more and intently watched her feet hesitantly step away from the group. "Hesitance? Why?" Again, he rewound it and looked wherever she was facing. In the corner of the screen, he spotted Moltor's creature charging an attack, this caught his attention. "If she's ruthless, then why did she hesitate when she saw Moltor's creature appear?" More and more mystery began to build up around the new supposed villainess.
His head shook after he turned the computer off and sighed. "Whatever she's after, it's not us. And it's not Moltor, Flurious, Kamdor, or Miratrix." As he walked toward the entryway to leave the basement, he recalled the man in armor she chased after and how he had the same electricity as her. "She's after those people. But why?" Turning around and watching the elevator doors close, he soon came to the main floor of his home.
~~Kamdor~~
"That last battle was too close." Miratrix was purely worried over the previous event, the look in her eyes was proof as she turned around.
Kamdor was a little relieved to know they made it but was disturbed by quite a few things. The creatures from Moltor, Flurious, and now the power from the mysterious rogue who he tried to threaten earlier. "Yes. I can create fierce creatures, but Flurious and Moltor each have an army of foot soldiers. That gives them an advantage." With a tightening fist, he expressed how powerless he felt from the comparisons of him and the other villains.
"Who on this pitiful planet would want to fight for us?" Questioned the Kunoichi, until a smirk broadened. The blue ninja saw it. He could tell an idea came to mind when he saw a glint of excitement in her eyes. "What about... That lady? You saw how fast and merciless she was. All of that ice she skated across. She's got skill." Kamdor watched her head nudge in his direction, expectation twinkling in her gaze.
"Maybe... Wait. No! It'd be too dangerous!" A finger pointed at her when he denied her idea. However, when they averted their gazes to ponder, cries of battle echoed behind them and caught their attention. "Them!" He eagerly announced when he saw staged ninjas pretending to fight someone.
(I HAD to show you guys this screenshot! I was watching the episode with captions on... But apparently, Captions heard something else instead of 'Them!' XDD I died!)
When everything calmed down, he approached around the corner with Miratrix by his side and overheard what the director said. "You'll never work in this town again!" He answered the director, watched him scream hysterically, and fall on his backside before everyone darted for an exit.
From there he used his power to brainwash the fake ninjas who attempted to flee and soon made some creatures when he placed his fingers together. "Some added power.~" Glancing at Miratrix, he saw a smirk of approval.
"Now. If only we could have that lady join us, we'd be set." The young woman was adamant about the idea of having the lady rogue join them, even though he said no. "Besides-- I think it'd be pretty neat to have another girl on the team. Who knows... She might end up being your type.~" Grinning from cheek to cheek, she giggled.
"My type is someone who isn't from this pathetic planet." Grumbling irritably, he trudged past her and made the fake ninjas and monsters follow him.
"Come on. I saw how you stared at her when she held you down, interrogating you." Hearing another giggle from her only enticed his anger more, for he turned to face her and dangerously leaned toward her face.
"I refuse! Continue to pester me with this and I will make sure your next training session is much harsher!" With that, he moved on and left behind a defeated-looking Kunoichi whose smile had fallen. The last thing I need is a distraction. His final thought faded as soon as it came.
~~Andrew~~
"Looks like Kamdor and Miratrix found some help... You think you guys can handle it? You're only four." After roughly five minutes of ordering Pizza, he returned to the basement to keep an eye out and there he saw a group of ninjas, along with Kamdor, Miratrix, and their monsters.
Doubt began to cloud his mind when he knew they were outnumbered. However, as soon as they heard the sound of skin across metal, they looked over and saw the blue boy slide down.
"Five!" In came Dax, with his hand up and a bright smile. Seeing him was a huge relief, knowing that he made the right choice to help them out. A quick shout 'Dax!' and a few gleeful chuckles filled the room when the blue ranger walked over to them, and received cheerful pats on his shoulders.
Andrew had to step around the teens to approach the boy, his own smile unfaltering. "So." He began with expectation in his voice. "How was your first starring role?" Seeing the hesitant look on Dax's face when he asked, told him that the boy wasn't sure how to answer.
"It was great! But... Right in the middle of it, I realized that the acting thing was something that I wanted just for me." Dax began and paused a moment, for he looked at everyone else before meeting Andrew's brown eyes once more. "This Power Ranger thing-- is something I do for a lot more people. My movie career can wait, sorry guys... Sorry, Mr. Hartford," It was barely ten seconds when Hartford nodded to him.
"Apology accepted. Consequences do come later." How childish it was when the other Rangers made sounds to show he was in trouble, but that had to be silenced right away since any kind of play would only hinder their time. "Right now we have a job to do! Go!" As if it were obvious, he added emphasis and watched them run off to do what they had to.
It wasn't long before the battle took place. He watched on his screen, however, seeing Moltor intervene with his soldiers and attack the ninja crew, he was skeptical.
~~Hyne~~
Well, looks like the band wants me to pick a good location for the debut. Why? I could just rely on my manager for that, couldn't I? On her motorcycle, Iseldur's trench coat flapped behind her from the speed. She already changed out of her gear and donned her biker helmet; thankfully putting her metal visor back on before doing so. Otherwise, she would have to deal with people commenting about her eyes.
She could feel her braids and ponytail squeezed against her neck, it was certainly scratchy but it wasn't something she wasn't used to. The baggy goth pants and tank top she wore before were back on again, save for a couple of red and blue chains hanging from the loops of her pants.
As she drove past vehicles and slowed down to make a turn, she heard cries nearby. Her head barely perked upon the sound, but turned her bike and pressed on the gas pedal. Weaving around obstacles and garbage bags that aligned an alley, she sped through and saw a board propped on a barrel next to an old gas station.
Iseldur braced herself before she sprung into the air like a professional Motorcycle stuntman. When she saw an army of those same crimson creatures and a large group of ninjas accompanying the two rogues from before, she plowed one of the creatures by accident.
Right onto their head, she used momentum and spun her bike around. A few more were knocked down by her abrupt appearance, but it wasn't enough to kill them. "Oops." Now that her bike came to a stop, her concealed face looked at the horde of crimson creatures and to the opposite side where the group of ninjas were.
They all stared at her as if she had two heads. "My bad." With little to no care in her voice, she awkwardly cleared her throat. Nonetheless, her bike was revved with a nice sound and used a foot to turn the motorcycle. No, this is definitely not a good spot. Bunch of weirdos are at it again... She nearly snorted a tiny laugh at her thoughts before she took off again.
"Hey! Who're you?!" Angrily shouted Moltor who she saw point a sword toward her. The space between his army and the ninja crew to her other side was kept open.
"A person..." Trailing off, Iseldur shook her head and showed no signs of care that the two sides were about to go head to head. A person that could end you, if you so much as tried to pull a fast one on me. Bast- before she could swear in her thoughts, her head looked to Miratrix when she spoke.
"You're that singer, aren't you? I recognize your voice." Through her helmet, she saw the Kunoichi smirk and lift her chin in her direction.
With a muffled humph and a faint nudge of her head, she turned her bike around and revved her engine. It wasn't long until she gave a salute with her two fingers to her head and away from her, to say goodbye. The rumble of the vehicle soon became louder once she sped past the group and left the fight.
Alright. Rule number one-- be careful of ramps. Because they could lead to anywhere. The last thing I want is to get caught in an all-out war between idiots like earlier. Her eyes rolled at the idea when she turned a corner carefully and made it back to the main road. I need food... An eye twitched when she felt her stomach protest and roar for some sustenance. Damn. Forget looking for a location! I haven't eaten this morning because of that stupid Spy. Grumbling under her breath, she raced past some parked vehicles on the sides and eventually came across a fast food place.
It was a Pizza place, where few people came in and out. Once she parked her bike, turned it off, and removed her helmet, she stood up. It wasn't long until she entered the place and looked at the menu above the countertops, where a guy eagerly waited for her to order. "So, what would you like?" She heard but ignored him so she could read the human language on the menus.
Sauce Pizza, Pepperoni Pizza, Sausage and cheese, Alfredo Pizza, Mushroom and red sauce... There's a lot of choices here. I guess I'll grab half and half. Pepperoni and Alfredo. Shrugging at the thought, she adjusted her visor and rubbed her black-painted lips together. "Pepperoni and Alfredo. Half and half, can you do it?" Folding her arms and cocking her head, she saw him nod and type in his computer for the order to be carried out.
"Sure can." she looked toward someone else and saw the Manager who spoke, leaning over the counter with a friendly grin. "We're a bit low on staff though, so it may take some time." She noticed he was a bit chubby and had some stains here and there on his shirt, he looked like a hard worker.
"Yeah." Nodding, she was about to turn around when the Manager spoke again.
"Hey, uh." He began with a finger pointing at her bike in the parking lot. "I noticed you got a bike. How about this..." When he trailed and grinned, she lifted a curious brow as a sign for him to continue. "We got a Pizza that needs to be delivered. If you want, your Pizza will be free if you deliver this one to the right address. Since you got a fast ride and all." Seeing him shrug and step away from the counter, she hummed.
Slowly, her lips curled up. The idea of free food sounded pleasing, and with her bike, finding the address wouldn't be a problem. "Give me the address. And if you don't live up to your end of the deal, you're head's mine." Lifting her hand, wiggling her fingers as a gesture for him to give it to her, she watched him nervously stand up and adjust his stained shirt.
"Right! Right, yeah. Give me a second." From there, she watched him run to the Kitchen area and come back out just as quickly.
When she received the Pizza, with the address attached to the bag that it was in, she didn't waste another second. Back onto her bike, the Pizza was safeguarded and strapped down.
~~Later.~~
She followed the address and it brought her to a fancy house outside the city. There before her was something that belonged to a rich owner, whom she knew the Pizza belonged to. Its beautiful lawn and lovely garden here and there screamed rich.
"Well. Better now than never." When she pressed a button on a speaker to the large gates, that led to a lengthy path, someone's voice came on.
"Hello. This is Spencer speaking, the butler of the estate. How may help you?" An elder's voice was what she heard, until, she picked up the concealed Pizza and held it up to the camera next to the speaker.
"Got a delivery for Mr. Hartford." Simple and straight to the point. She didn't care much to converse, she just wanted her free Pizza.
"Certainly. I will be there right away." The speaker turned off once the elder left and roughly ten minutes later, she saw an old man clad in a black suit approach the gates. "Sorry for the wait." His British accent fell from his lips when he made the gates open and made his way to her.
Seriously? Why do people do this to elders? They shouldn't be working like this. The situation completely annoyed her, the rich owner could've hired someone younger to do labor. Instead of an elder who looked like he ran a marathon just by walking. When he was about to reach for the box, she moved it away from his hands. "Uh- Uh... Hands off. I'll drive you and the box up to the door." Demanded the goth behind her helmet, and patted behind her as a gesture for him to sit.
"No, it's quite alright. I walk from and to, all the time. It's no trouble at all," A nervous smile from him only irked her more, so when she growled at him he chuckled and nodded. "Alright, alright, you win." Finally, she watched him move a leg over and hop on; albeit awkwardly with effort on his part.
Damn. I hate people! But I certainly don't like it when people mistreat elders! If I could I'd spit at the owner's face and tell him off for doing this to him. Revving her engine rather angrily, she felt the elder hold onto her tightly before she carefully drove across the lengthy path.
Once she was in front of a small staircase that led to some double doors, she saw Spencer get off. She didn't hesitate to help him, her hand kept him steady so his footing wouldn't fail. "Thank you, I appreciate the assistance miss. There are not a lot of people who respect or look out for others, these days. But... Master Hartford, is a rare case." As if to ward off any annoyance she had, he gave her a genuine smile and a short bow. It was odd, it was as though he could tell she was irritated by the whole thing.
"Then let me carry it up there." Iseldur didn't give him any time to protest, save for his sputter of words that failed to form sentences.
The goth ignored his poor attempt to stop her when she got up, for she carried the Pizza with one hand and scaled the small stairs until she reached the doors. The helmet was never removed, mostly because she didn't want to risk anyone knowing who she was. However, she didn't have much of a choice with the Pizza manager.
"Miss! Please! This is my job! At least let me inform Mr. Hartford that the Pizza is here!" As soon as she heard his steps go up the stairs, she knocked on the door and stood there.
One minute, and two minutes, the door soon opened and revealed a tall man who looked to be in his early thirties. For a moment, her breath hitched. Never in her life did any attractive human make her fluster like this one did. Her cheeks burned a little behind her helmet, but cleared her throat regardless and recalled her previous endeavor. "You..." She began and let the anger over the mistreatment of the elder, show in her shaking limbs. "You rich, tall, piece of shi-" Before she could so much as swear, Spencer interrupted her.
"Language!" She didn't get to see the disapproving expression on the old man's face, for all she did was groan and roll her hidden eyes.
"English!" Over her shoulder, she yelled, before looking back at Mr. Hartford who looked about as surprised as a deer in headlights. "Anyway..." Trailing off with an obvious indication of anger in her voice. "Here's your damn pizza! I can't believe you'd make an old man who can barely walk down the driveway, to retrieve this!" Shoving the box to his chest, she saw him take it and was about to turn around and head to her bike when Hartford spoke up.
"Um. I'll consider your words next time, Miss. Don't you want your tip?" Over her shoulder, Iseldur looked at the guy and saw him pull out a ten-dollar bill.
"Sir. Why not invite her inside for some tea? After all, she did drive me up here and help me. I'd like to repay her." Spencer was merely a foot away from his boss when he asked, and watched him peek at her with a friendly smile.
"I... I don't see why not. But, that's entirely up to her." Seeing Hartford gesture toward her and keep his puppy-dog worried eyes upon her hidden ones, she couldn't help but whip her head away.
(The image is from google! I do not own it :D! Just showing an example of his expression~)
Ah! No! Why does he have a cute look in his eyes!? What is up with that?! He's friggin cute! Hot! Why?! Internally fuming at her own flustered state, fists clenched and a nervous breath escaped her lips. "Maybe n- next time. Got a Pizza waiting for me." Again, she wasn't much of a conversationalist, so she didn't take too kindly toward it since her containing her emotions was proving difficult. How she felt was certainly something new to her.
"R- Right. Of course. Come by sometime, the offer will be up." Hyne heard it. A lift in his voice that told her he smiled. With that, she nodded and put a leg over the seat.
It didn't take long for her to rev the engine and take off. However, thoughts of Hartford lingered the entire drive back to the Pizza place. How she'd be able to get him out of her mind would be a difficult task, knowing she had other things she needed to focus on.
This is going to be a pain. Her cheeks still burned and her heart rate was still high, so she drove faster and faster to try and get an adrenaline rush to get her mind off of it.

A/N: Oh boy... What will she do now, that she has met someone who made her heart flutter without him even knowing? XD
