Chapter 10: Meeting Holiday

Okay guys, I'm really sorry that this is late! I know I was supposed to put this chapter out yesterday, but I had major writers block and didn't know what to do, so, I finally started writing late last night, but couldn't finish before I had to go to sleep. I apologize again, and I hope you enjoy this chapter!

As Holiday led her through the halls, Harper couldn't help but wonder as to how she was "well known" at her old school. Aside from being an outcast there, no one really paid attention to her, and she liked it that way. And then suddenly this girl shows up, claiming to have gone to her old school? Weird.

Holiday did seem a bit familiar though. Her wavy, chocolate brown hair flew behind her as she walked, framing her perfect face. The look of excitement in her shiny green eyes was extreme, and Harper couldn't even see what she was so excited about.  Her smile seemed like a part of her memories, but she couldn't place which one.

 "You okay, Cat?" Holiday asked.

" Huh? Oh, uh, yeah. I'm fine. " Harper said quickly.

 "You sure?"

Harper nodded, "I'm just thinking. You may have to get used to me ignoring you at times."

Holiday waved it off, "Don't worry about it! My younger brother has ADHD, so I know how to deal with easily distracted people."

Even though it kind of seemed like an isult, Harper found herself smiling. She'd never had friends before, and if they had a brother with a similar problem to her own, they would understand. Harper blocked out a lot of what Holiday said as they walked, constantly looking out the window. She didn't know why, but she just wanted to go... somewhere. Of course, she didn't just run out the door, but something inside her wanted to.t

"And here's the Math room!" Holiday said with a smile, snapping Harper put of her thoughts , "Oh, so it's math!"

" Excuse me?"

"With my brother, whenever I mention art, I get his attention. With you, it's math!"

Harper squinted her eyes, " You sure? "

"Yeah! Usually it had something to do with the things you like! My brother loves art, so it brings him back. I'm guessing you like math?"

Harper nodded, "I didn't know that worked! I may need to tell my siblings about it sometime."

" Well, aren't they here? Can't we just tell them now? " Harper looked down at her feet, not wanting to reply. Holiday slowly put her hand on Harper's shoulder, "Ya know what? Lets drop this topic. Onto another one! What class do you have first?"

Harper shrugged, " I think I have Science. But I'll figure it out. "

Holiday's smile grew, "Well, if you need help, I'll always be here, Cat! "

"Thanks, Kira! " Harper grinned.

"Um... Her name isn't Kira, it's Holiday." A voice said behind them. When they turned around they found Dylan standing behind them, "And she's Harper, not Cat. I thought you knew that, having gone to the same school an all."

Holiday's smile dropped, "Uh, we do know that-"

" How about you stay out of our lives, Dylan? " Harper interrupted, upset that Dylan had probably been listening to their whole conversation, "They aren't yours to barge into!"

Dylan put his hands up in a sign of surrender , "Woah, woah, chill! I was just trying to get to class!"

" And you just happened to hear our conversation? " Harper countered, knowing her anger was shining in her eyes.

"Not to mention you have class down the previous hallway first." Holiday added, causing Dylan to smile.

"Stalker much?" He asked with a mischievous smirk.

Holiday slightly blushed, but she kept her expression calm, "No, you dropped your new schedule on the ground on Friday. I was going to give it back to you today, since I was gone Monday. Have me plenty of time to see which classes you're ditching and which ones your just getting confused with. "

It was Dylan's turn to blush. He froze for a moment before putting his hand out. After a silent 30 seconds, Holiday reached into her bag and pulled out a folded piece of paper and put it in his hand. "So," Harper started, " How much of our conversation did you hear? And be honest, because, if you lie, I will back out of our deal. "

Dylan's face actually paled at her words, "Um, well, I started listening when you asked if her favorite subject was Math. " Harper and Holiday both narrowed their eyes, and all the remaining confidence he had vaporized, "Honest!"

" You sure? " Harper asked.

"Um, uh... yeah. "

Harper looked at Holiday, who met her eyes when she looked back, Dylan was looking more stuff and worried than before. Slowly, Harper walked up to him. "I'm gonna ask again, how much did you hear?"

Dylan looked like he was almost on the brink of tears, " Well, I heard something about ADHD and PTSD, but I didn't know who! "

Harper's breath caught in her throat. She didn't like talking about her disorder, much less have someone else talking about it. It's why she was trying so hard; not just because PTSD made her easily angry, but because it was a sensitive topic. Silently, she moved away, "It's fine. He didn't really hear anything." She mumbled as she walked past Holiday.

" Just to be clear, " Harper heard Holiday call behind her, "Those were nicknames. We know who we're talking to." With that, Holiday sped up and grabbed Harper's hand to lead her down the halls.

As they slowed, Holiday turned to look at Harper's hard expression. "Hey, are you okay?" She asked softly.

Harper felt tears leaking out of her eyes, "I can't believe he actually heard that I have PTSD."

" Sensitive topic? " Holiday sighed as Harper nodded, "Don't worry about it! He probably won't tell everyone, since he doesn't know everything, and I don't think anyone will ask you about it."

" Then how'd you learn? "

"Well, my parents are big parts of this school, with my father being the Secretary. They recognized your name and wanted me to show you around!"

" So they made you do it? "

"No! I also wanted to help, they just had to inform me that you had PTSD so I would know how to approach you. "

"Because I have to be treated differently than normal people," Harper mumbled , causing Holiday to sigh.

"You don't need to be treated differently than anyone else. But, if my parents hadn't told me, I may have thought that you ignoring me meant you didn't care about what I was saying, or that you getting angry meant you were a bad person, things like that. B ut, because I know PTSD doesn't make anything better for you, I know that some of the things you do that others might take offensively isn't entirely your fault! "

Harper smiled, "Thanks. That... really helps."

" No problem! Now, let's get to class. There's some people I want you to meet! "

Story word count: 1120

So, I realize you already "met" Holiday in the last chapter, but this was for all of us (myself included) to get a better idea of what she's like. What do you all think of her? Also, my publishing may be really inconsistent, since I have XCountry practice every morning and I'm just really tired, so, I'm sorry for that. Have a great day/night!
