Chapter 60
The next six days fly by in the blink of an eye.
Finn and Kallista handle all of the wedding details, and Finn tells me not to worry about any of it. I think he knew that I loathe making any kind of decision and wouldn't want the pressure of having to make decisions for an entire wedding.
So, they handle absolutely everything, from dresses to décor to the music they're going to play. I hadn't even seen my dress yet.
On that sixth night, Finn returns from a long day away finalizing wedding plans. I try to pull him into bed, but he laughs and resists my tugs. "Sorry, my love. You know that human custom says that we have to spend the night before the wedding apart. If we're going to do this, we better do it right."
I pout. "You're really going to make me sleep alone because of a dumb human tradition?"
Finn laughs again, pulling me into his arms for a tight hug. "It'll just make seeing you tomorrow all the more exciting, my love."
I groan. "Ugh, if humans had mates, they wouldn't even suggest something so torturous."
"It'll just be one night, my darling fiancée," Finn chuckles. "I promise this will be the last night you'll ever spend without me. Go get some beauty rest, okay? Kallista threatened to chop my balls off if you had dark circles under your eyes tomorrow."
He kisses me goodnight before ducking out of the room. I toss and turn for hours, too nervous to fall asleep. I groaned and got out of bed. Screw patience. I had wasted so many nights away from Finn already, I would not throw another one away.
When I sneak into his guest room and crawl into his bed, he doesn't send me away. He just pulls me into his arms and holds me tightly, and sleep finds me almost instantly.
I wasn't surprised when by the time I woke up, Finn was gone. There was another note on the dresser, and I smiled, thinking of my collection of notes from my beautiful mate.
My mate, love of my life, and after today, my wife:
I should be infuriated with you for sullying my honor by crawling into my bed before I properly wed you, but as I write this, you snore softly and your little hands stretch out on my side of the bed, seeking me out even in slumber. I suppose I can forgive this one indiscretion, if only because I have never seen someone more darling and beautiful.
I would go on and on about how much I love you, but you'll just have to wait until our vows to hear it.
I'll see you soon, my love.
-For one last day, your fiancé.
The note floods my heart with warmth, and I go into our room to put it with the others.
When I get there, Kallista and Astrid are already waiting.
Kallista squeals when she sees me, pulling me into her arms. "I can't believe after today, you'll officially be my sister!"
I laugh, and my heart feels unbelievably full. I went from having nobody, to having an entire family of my own.
Even Astrid seems like she's in a good mood. "Congratulations, Onyx," She says with a small smile. "I can't think of any two people more perfect for each other. You make a beautiful couple."
My cheeks redden as she pulls me in for a hug of her own, not used to her showing any kind of affection with anyone but Will.
"You guys are here early," I note as Kallista shoves me into the bathroom and turns on the shower.
"Conversion factor," Astrid says, and rolls her eyes at Kallista.
"We have a lot of work to do," Kallista says seriously, and pulls out a clipboard. "Don't worry, I've scheduled everything."
"Of course you have," I mutter before getting in the shower.
Once I'm out, Kallista and Astrid begin the hours long process of getting me ready. When they're finished, I gasp as I look in the mirror.
They've completely transformed me. Kallista kept my makeup fairly neutral, but it looks stunning, nonetheless. Astrid put my hair in an intricate updo, even putting small blue flowers in the braids.
"The flowers are beautiful, Astrid," I tell her honestly. They make me look like a woodland nymph.
Astrid shrugs. "It's your something blue. Ronin gave them to me and told me to put them in your hair. Said you would look beautiful. He was right."
I blush from her compliment. Ronin is such a sweetheart.
"Your something new is your dress," Kallista informs me. "Speaking of, go put it on. It's hanging up on the door."
I gulp nervously and get up to see the dress.
My mouth drops when I see it. Kallista has chosen the perfect dress.
It was a simple white gown, but there was a gorgeous lace overlay, with intricate flower patterns. The sleeves only had the lace, while the rest of the dress had the lace on top of the flowy white satin.
"Do you like it?" Kallista asks nervously.
"I love it," I whisper, running my hand along the lace. "It's perfect."
Kallista and Astrid help me into the dress, buttoning the back. Kallista starts crying, and Astrid hands her a tissue. If I didn't know better, I would say that even Astrid's eyes were lined with tears.
Astrid gently pins a veil of the same lace pattern back in my hair.
"What's the something old?" I ask Kallista curiously.
Kallista frowns. "He didn't tell you?"
"Tell me what?" I ask in confusion.
Kallista takes my hand, and runs her thumb over my engagement ring. "The ring," She says softly. "It was our mother's."
My hand covers my mouth. Oh, Finn.
"Don't cry!" Kallista wails, even though she herself has tears streaming down her face.
"Kallista, stop crying and go fix your makeup, we have to get ready, too," Astrid says, but she definitely has tears of her own falling down her face.
Kallista nods, blowing her nose with a tissue. "I can't help it. I can believe this is really happening."
Neither could I.

Dean whistles as I walk downstairs with Astrid and Kallista, the latter of which who told me that the wedding would be taking place outside.
"You look stunning, Onyx," Ronin says, smiling at me from beside Dean.
I blush. "Thanks, Ro."
"Your bridesmaid doesn't look to terrible herself," Will adds, his gaze focused on Astrid, who flips him off, but locks her arm in his.
"If only we could say the same about the other one," Dean shakes his head sadly at Kallista, who wears a light green gown that matches Astrid's. With her blonde hair in loose curls and pearl clips pinning the front of her hair back, she looks beautiful.
"Shut up, Dean," Kallista says rolling her eyes. "We both know that I'm hot as fuck. Also, for the record, I'm the maid of honor."
Dean scoffs as Kallista links her arms with Ronin, who wears the same outfit as the other men, a tan suit with a bow tie that matches her and Astrid's dresses. "A self-appointed position, no doubt."
I giggle. He's not wrong. Kallista did appoint herself as my maid of honor, but I wouldn't have had it any other way.
Kallista flips him off. "You're lucky we have to start walking, or I'd give your scar a friend."
My heart pounds as we walk outside, just around the corner from the ceremony. I hear people chattering excitedly. Kallista told me that all of the rogues in the house were thrilled to go to a wedding, especially Finn's.
Finn. My mate, soon, my husband.
Music starts, and Ronin and Kallista walk around the corner, their arms linked together as they walk down the aisle I can't yet see.
Will and Astrid follow them, and my heart feels like it's going to jump out of my throat.
Dean interlocks his arm with mine, my escort down the aisle. I didn't have a father, and when Kallista had asked me who I wanted to walk me down the aisle, I immediately thought of Dean.
Dean, the hilarious and most times inappropriate wolf who I had come to love just as much as his brother. The wolf who was the first person to make me smile when I was in the darkest place of my life. The wolf who had wiped my memories of Finn when I asked, and the one who gave them back just as easily.
The reason we were here today.
"Last chance to ditch Finnegan," Dean whispers as we wait to turn the corner. "I could treat you just as well, if you can get past the scar."
I laugh, but it sounds wrong because I'm so nervous my throat is closing. "Don't let me fall," I tell him, feeling my legs wobble.
His eyes soften as his grip on my arm tightens, the only thing holding me upright. "Never."
The part of the song that Kallista told us to turn the corner at begins, and I almost pass out as Dean takes the first step, pulling me along with him.
And I lay my eyes on my mate.
