Chapter 6 - The Arrival of the Train

Those five minutes were probably the longest of Y/N's life. She could not remember a time when she was more excited for something to happen. She was going to see Lucy. It had been nearly a decade since they had last met! Lucy was like her little sister. She was the first of the four Pevensies that Y/N had met.

Peter, Edmund and Y/N were sat on a bench, patiently waiting for the train to arrive. Y/N kept squeezing Edmund's hand in excitement. Edmund, on the other hand, was still thinking of the brief argument they had had at Y/N's flat. He thought that she would agree to come and live with him without any hesitation. He didn't think she'd choose any other option.

Edmund's thoughts were cut short when the speaker announced that the train would be arriving at the station, and the sound of the train itself drew closer.

Peter, Edmund and Y/N rose to their feet, walking closer to the tracks, to greet the others when they deboarded. They could now see the train. And there was Eustace! He was looking out the window and waving. And then he noticed Y/N, and joy filled his features. He stuck his head back inside the window, presumably to tell Lucy.

And that's when things went downhill.

Suddenly, the train made a frightful noise and jerked - towards where Peter, Edmund and Y/N were standing. It was being derailed. Screams were heard from everywhere. Mothers began picking up their children and running; young gentlemen helped the elderly people get away as fast as they could. Peter, Edmund and Y/N reacted too, running as fast as their legs could carry them.

But it was too late.

They were the closest to the tracks, and they couldn't get far enough before the train completely detached from the rails and ran onto the station floor. The last thing Y/N heard was screaming, the screeching of the train and Edmund yelling her name.

And then, the world turned black.

But then, she opened her eyes, and everything was white.

Or rather, it was blue, as Y/N noticed, as her eyes adjusted to the light. What had just happened? Y/N realised she was laying on her back, on soft ground. Slowly, she pushed herself to a seated position.

Looking around, she saw that she wasn't alone. Around her, on fresh, green grass, sat Peter, Edmund, Lucy and two elderly people Y/N didn't recognise. But they weren't in the regular clothes they had been in a few moments ago - was it only a few moments ago? They were all dressed in Narnian garments. The most comfortable yet elegant robes they had ever been in - somehow even better than the clothes they had worn as kings and queens.

As soon as Lucy and Y/N caught each other's gazes, they jumped to their feet and ran towards each other. The two met in a hug, and Y/N kissed Lucy's forehead.
When the pulled back, Lucy was the first to speak. "But- But how? I don't understand."

Y/N was about to answer when Peter interrupted, saying, "Hang on. Where's Eustace? And Jill?"
"I think the real question is: where are we?" said Edmund.
"Well, it's a bit obvious, isn't it?" answered Polly.
"Quite," agreed Professor Kirke, before standing up and helping Polly to her feet, "It seems we have all... Oh, how do I put it lightly? We seem to have-"

"We're all dead," finished Y/N, "Aren't we?"
"Well..." said the professor, "Yes, that's one way of saying it. Professor Kirke, Y/N. I have heard much about you ever since the Pevensies came back from their first trip to Narnia."

Y/N smiled at the professor and shook his hand, as Polly approached Y/N, saying, "And I'm Polly Plummer, an old friend of the professor's. He and I were the first of our world to visit Narnia. It's a wonder to meet you, Y/N."

"Hold on!" said Peter suddenly, interrupting the introductions, "You mean to say that we all died in the train accident? How can you all be so calm about this?"
Y/N herself didn't know why the thought of being dead wasn't frightening to her. In fact, it was almost...relaxing. Like it was meant to happen.
"And we still don't know where we are!" added Edmund.

"I know," said Lucy softly, a grin covering her face, and the others turned to her, "We're in Aslan's Country."
