I'd Gladly Be Your Rainy Day
Quietly, I leaned against the door, waiting for Gerard to walk me to school. I wasn't even sure if he'd come after last night. Punk boy... please don't leave me...
But just then, there was a knock upon the door. I smiled and opened the door, immediately engulfing the raven haired boy in a hug.
"Hey angel face..." He kissed the side of my head and gently stroked my hair.
"Punk boy, everything is so fucked..." He chuckled then pulled away, "Yeah, I know." Gerard brought his arm around me as we began our walk.
"They won't even tell me what day we're leaving. I dunno if it's a type of punishment or what..."
"Well, either way, I'm gonna spend as much time with you as I can. That reminds me, uhm, I have that surprise for you after school. But, I'll probably pick you up later."
"Are you sure that's a good idea?" I asked, "If my parents see you, they won't exactly be all that nice to you."
"Oh no, it'll be okay. I promise," I sent a confused look. He sighed, "I can't tell you! It's a surprise! I gotta whole thing planned. Today and tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?" I furrowed my brows, not recalling him saying anything about tomorrow, "What're we doing tomorrow?" His body immediately stiffened, "What?"
"I've said too much," Was all he said before quickly going inside the school to avoid the topic, "Hey look it's our friends!" Gerard cried, walking towards the boys and Hayley.
"Hey look it's a dumb ass!" Frank cried. Gerard just ignored the comment as we stood in the little circle.
"So uhm-" But before Gerard could finish, his phone buzzed. He furrowed his brows and pulled it out. Casually, I gazed over to see who it was, expecting it to be his mom or something, but he pulled his phone away and turned around. He seemed to be looking at someone, but turned back before I could figure out who.
"Gimme a sec..." He left the circle, no one really took notice as they were very invested in whatever they were talking about. I kept my gaze on Gerard as he began talking to Ryan.
Wait... I thought he didn't like Ryan... are they friends!? Holy shit! He's not beating him up... they must be friends! That's so cool!
Punk boy came back over and sent a strange look towards me.
"Why're you smiling so much, pumpkin?" He asked.
"Are you and Ryan friends?" Hesitantly, he gazed back over at the brown haired boy, then back to me.
"Yeah... I guess you could say that..."
"He's not scared of you anymore..." I thought out loud, "That's so cool..."
"Yeah, it's whatever..." I kissed his cheek just as the bell rang, "Aww c'mon sugar..." He took my hand, leading me to first period.
As I took my seat, Brendon came over to me. I gazed at him, confused. He's shaking... he's scared...
He was about to speak when Gerard spoke up first.
"Hey fuck face, what're you doing over here!? Wanna get fuckin' hit again!?" Gerard spat.
"N...no..." Brendon said, "I just wanna say, Y/n, I heard you're moving soon..." Damn... word travels fast around here...
"Uh, yeah, next week..."
"Oh shit," He spoke, "I just wanted to say, I'll miss you."
"Alright..." Was all I said before he walked off. I turned to Gerard, "How true do you think that is? He was literally shaking..." He shrugged.
"He won't have you to annoy anymore. I could see it being true."
"Please, I'm sure he'll still annoy everyone else here." Gerard chuckled as the bell rang.
Time skip to after school
"Angel face don't forget, I got something epic planned tonight." Gerard said as he walked me home.
"Can't you just, tell me what it is?"
"Well no, that'll ruin the whole point of it being a surprise. Wear that pretty dress you showed me a few days ago. I'll be dressing up too. That's all I'll share."
"Fine..." I rolled my eyes but smiled at how childish he was. We now stood on my front porch, facing each other.
"Alright, bye pumpkin, see ya soon." He kissed my cheek.
"Bye punk boy..." I hugged him tight. There was no stopping myself.
"Aww..." He kissed the top of my head, "Don't worry babe, we're gonna make the most of our last minutes together..." I just nodded, not trusting myself to speak as I could start crying.
"Okay sugar," He pulled away, "See ya in like, two hours..."
"Bye..." I waved, watching him walk down the porch steps and back onto the sidewalk. Before opening the front door, I took a deep breath, and smiled.
Quickly, I ran to my room and began getting ready. I wore my short black dress from before(pic below).
Along with black tights, a pair of black hightop converse, and some black and white skull earrings. Gerard's gonna go insane when he sees me...
I smiled to myself in the mirror as I fixed my hair and anything else I needed. Then, the front door opened and closed. Parents are home... I'll tell them I'm hanging out with Hayley tonight...
"Y/n! We're home!" They plainly cried. I did one last twirl in the mirror to make sure everything was just right before going and greeting them, as much as I didn't want to. I have to keep it as normal as possible around here... they could get suspicious...
"Hi..." And now they were looking at me confused.
"Why're you dressed up?" My mom asked, expecting something along the lines of "date with Gerard." It was evident on her face that she was ready to shoot it down. But I just smiled as I spoke.
"Me and Hayley are hanging out tonight. We thought it'd be fun to dress up and hang around town." My mother sent a strange look as if she didn't believe me. It only took her a second to drop it as she seemed exceptionally tired from work today.
"Fine..." And then there was a knock at the door. Shit... that better not be Gerard...
"That must be her!" I gazed through the blinds to see Frank standing there. Fuck...
I took a deep breath and opened the door. Frank stood there looking like a valet type person you'd only see at fancy restaurants in Hollywood. What is Gerard up to?
"Oh, hi Frank, what're you doing here?" I pretended, already assuming he was here to take me to Gerard's.
"I'm here to-"
"To take me to Hayley's!"
"What? No, I-"
"Yeah, Hayley's..." I sent a look saying "shut the fuck up and go along with it."
"Oh yeah, Hayley's, right."
"Bye..." I called to my parents. As quickly as possible I went outside and shut the door behind me.
"What was that all about?" Frank asked.
"Did Gerard not tell you?" I asked.
"Tell me what?" He asked as we began walking to his car.
"My parents went berserk on him last night and said we're not allowed to see each other anymore."
"Seriously!?" He asked, opening the door for me.
"Yeah, thanks," He nodded as I got in. As he got into the drivers seat, I began speaking again, "My parents thought we were fucking or something so they kicked him outta the house."
"Oh shit... you're not actually gonna stop seeing him, are ya?" I just laughed.
"Dude, you should already know. Of course I'm gonna keep seeing him. Why'd ya think I lied to my parents back there?" He just shrugged.
"I'm happy that you're still together. You two make a good couple."
"Thanks Frank..." And then we pulled up to the Way's household.
"Alright, Gerard's waiting in the basement."
"Okay, bye Frank..."
"See ya!" I got out of the car to see the front door open. Mikey stuck his head out for a moment. As soon as his gaze landed on me, his eyes went wide, and he ran back into the house. Confused, I slowly walked to the front porch and knocked on the door.
"Gerard...?" I asked.
"Wait! We need a second!" I heard Ray yell from inside. I couldn't help but giggle. Then Frank got out of the car and came over.
"What're you waiting for?"
"Ray just said they needed a second."
"Oh for fucks sake!" He ran inside, but then the door opened again as Frank stuck his head out, "One moment..." And the door was shut again. What're they up to!?
I peaked through the long skinny window beside the door, but couldn't see much. Damn...
Then, I saw Mikey running towards the front door. I pulled away from the window just before the door opened. He breathed heavily, as he bent down for a moment.
"Sorry for the wait..." He said, took a moment to calm himself down, and began again, "Come on in..." As I stepped inside I gazed at Mikey and then to Ray who stood in the kitchen. They both wore matching black and white suits.
"Aww, you guys are matching!" I mocked. They just rolled their eyes.
"Gerard made us wear them." Mikey said, leading me through the kitchen where I got a good whiff of burning.
"What the hell happened here?" I asked.
"No time. Gerard's waiting." Was all Mikey said before leaving me in the basement stairwell. Okay then...
Slowly, I made my way down the stairs, gazing around for my boyfriend. As I did so, I found the basement completely cleaned. There wasn't a single stain or chip bag left around. The furniture had been pushed up against the walls, leaving a table and chairs for two. On the table set a red rose in a little white vase.
"Gerard?" I asked, walking around, then realized the bathroom light was on.
"I'm almost ready!" He cried.
"Okay..." I stood there for about a minute before he came out. When he did, I couldn't stop staring. My jaw dropped as I gazed at him.
"Punk boy, did you wash your hair?" I asked, walking to him.
He wore black jeans, a long black coat, with a white dress shirt and blue tie underneath. His hair had been slicked back, like pony boy from the Outsiders. Except of course, Gerard's hair was way longer. There was a small bit of hair that kept falling in his face, but it only made him look even better.
"I... uhm..." He was completely speechless as he stared at me. I watched as his entire face became flushed and his body stayed completely still. I just smiled, walking up to him, and holding his cheek in my hand.
"You look amazing..." I said, "So handsome, you're such a beautiful boy." Finally, he cracked a smile, and sent a quick glance to the floor before it went back to me.
"Oh angel face, I can't stop staring at you. You're just so..." He trailed off, loosing his sense of words. I just giggled. I know what he thinks... there really is no need for words...
"Punk boy?" He snapped out of it.
"Sorry," He blushed, but it soon faded as he remembered something, "Oh shit, I have... I uh..." He began looking around, haphazardly, "I had something..."
"What was it?"
"Uhm..." He stepped away from me, then gazed at the table, "Ah, there it is..." He grabbed the rose and handed it to me, "This is for you..."
"Thank you..." I took the pretty flower from him with a smile. Then, the basement door slammed against the wall followed by loud footsteps. Mikey stood there, looking stressed.
"Gerard, we need your help... in the kitchen... something happened..."
"What happened?"
"We burnt it..."
"Yeah, I said save what you can!"
"But we burnt all of it!"
"How the fuck do you burn garlic bread!? It came from the store!" Mikey shrugged.
"So... what do we do now?" Mikey asked.
"I dunno, figure it out!"
"Well I... uhm-" The sound of footsteps came up from behind him.
"I told you you shoulda had me do the food!" Frank cried. He held a plate of mac n cheese. Except, it wasn't the plastic looking box kind. It looked almost, gourmet, and it smelled delectable.
"Go back upstairs Mikey, I got this," Frank said. Mikey sadly sighed, and walked back upstairs, "And tell Ray he's done in the kitchen!"
"Yeah yeah..."
"Sorry about that," Frank began, "I have your food ready."
"Cool..." I said, taking a seat at the table. Gerard sat across from me. Frank set the plate on my side and took the vase, taking it upstairs with him.
"I had no idea Frank could cook." I said, gazing down at the food, then taking a bite. Holy shit...
"Yeah, he's got a knack for doing that kinda stuff. He's the one that taught me how to tie a tie."
"Damn, I never woulda thought..." Frank came back in and set a plate of food identical to mine in front of Gerard, "Frank," He turned to me, "The food is amazing." He smiled.
"Thank you..." He said, "I'll be back with bread sticks in a moment." And he left. Fuck yeah...
"But yeah, Frank's good at all that sorta stuff. He doesn't like showing it off much though."
"Ah, kills his punk vibe?"
"Yeah, pretty much..."
"Lame, it's kinda cool he can do this stuff."
"Yeah, I think so too..." And Frank was walking back down the stairs with a basket of bread. Fuck yeah! Bread!
He set it in the middle of the table, quietly.
"Bread is served." Is all he said.
"Thanks Frank, looks very nice."
"Ah, it's whatever."
"Where'd you learn to do all this?"
"Oh I used to work at Olive Garden. I was pretty good at what I did."
"I can tell..."
"Yeah, I'd still be working, but, it was more of a summer thing."
"Cool..."
"Aight, I'll leave you two alone." He sent us both a smile before going back upstairs. I began eating a bread stick. Yes... bread... the second love of my life...
"This is really nice, babe..." I told Gerard.
"I knew you'd like it. When we're done eating, I've got something else planned."
"What is it?" I asked, knowing full well what the response would be.
"It's a surprise..."
"Of course it is," He smiled and rested his hand on top of mine, "Aww..."
"Y'know what?" I hummed, "The other day me and Frank were having a conversation about something. I don't remember what, but it somehow led to him asking who my favorite person was."
"Yeah? What'd you say?"
"Well at first I was like, Batman, obviously."
"Really? Batman?" I giggled, "You're such a dork."
"Yeah yeah, I know I know," He chuckled, "Anyways, I started thinking and I think it's you."
"Aww..."
"Right after Mikey." I sent him a look.
"Really? Your brother?" I laughed, "How is your brother your favorite person?"
"Cause he's my brother! He knows me better than anyone," I giggled and rolled my eyes, "Alright little miss angel face, who's your favorite person." You, dumb ass...
"Uhm," I pretended to think for a moment, "Well, he's cute, got black hair, is rambunctious, and is a total punk."
"Talking about me?"
"No! Sid Vicious!"
"You think Sid Vicious is cute? He murdered his girlfriend y'know."
"Yes I know! I'm allowed to think he's cute! It's not like I'm in love with him or anything. Besides, you beat him as my favorite person by a long shot." He smiled at his plate. It went quiet for about thirty seconds.
"I love you..." He said.
"I love you too..." I said, now done eating. He was done as well. Gerard leaned forward and held his hand out.
"May I have this dance?" I looked to his hand, and back to him. His cheerful smile was extremely contagious.
"Yeah..." I rested my hand in his. He led me up from the table, but let go for a moment.
"Wait..." He turned around and hit play on the CD player. I picked up the case set beside it.
"Now that's what I call slow dancing?" I read, "Really?"
"It's all we had!" I just giggled and dropped the case, "Okay..." He held his hand out, I smiled and took it once more. Gerard's free hand held the side of my waist while my free hand held his shoulder.
"Woah holy shit is that Nina Simone?" I asked, recognizing the voice. He just shrugged.
"She's awesome..." I said.
"Really? She's awesome?" He asked as we swayed.
"Yes! Do you hear the sounds right now? Isn't it beautiful?"
"Beautiful? Okay... is it awesome or beautiful?" I just rolled my eyes. He just chuckled.
We then went silent, gazing at each other as we danced. I could feel the love radiating off of him. He felt so warm, and it was all I wanted. Maybe if I could find a way to stash a bit of his warmth in a jar to keep when I leave, maybe then it wouldn't hurt so bad.
I wrapped my arms around Gerard's neck and buried my face in his chest. He held my waist, caressing me with just a slight movement of his thumbs.
"Gerard?" He hummed, "When I'm with you, you make me feel a way I've never felt. I feel like I'm... I dunno... I get so tingly. But uhm... I think you're... you're so beautiful. Yet, so many people don't see that. You're like a rainy day..."
"A rainy day?"
"Yeah, most people think rainy days are awful. They're sad and gloomy and they bring loud thunderstorms that scare cats away. But," I looked up at him and smiled, "Rainy days are my favorite days. They give life to outside plants, no one's on the streets so I can have it all to myself, and did I mention the smell?" He chuckled, "Or the puddles!?"
"The thunder and lightning too. Lots of people are scared of them. But I'm not. I see how truly extraordinary they are. Not many people can see that part. The few lucky people that do see it, like me, could never feel scared when in a storm of thunder and lightning. Y'know why?" He shook his head, "Because, as long as the rain, thunder, and lighting go on, I know I'll be safe, and happy."
"That's... that's so beautiful and poetic," He smiled, "I'd gladly be your rainy day, angel face. Your rain, thunder, and lighting... any damn day..."
