Goodbye New Jersey!

After dancing for what felt like hours, we both lay on his bed, staring up at the ceiling. His hand was in mine as the room was completely silent.

I then began to yawn, which Gerard took notice of. He gazed at me, not even having to ask if I was tired. He already knew.

"Wanna stay the night?"

"Yeah..."

"Okay..." He kissed my cheek before getting up and grabbing pajamas for the both of us.

Time skip to the next day

"...Gerard, where're we going?" I asked as we drove around. It didn't seem as if he had any destination at all as we just, kept driving around town.

"It's... it's a surprise..."

"You've been saying that for over an hour," I spoke, gazing at him, "We've circled around this block four times now."

"Really? I thought you wouldn't notice..."

"What's going on?" I asked, "Are we going somewhere? Or are you taking me home? It's nearly dark..." Gerard hesitated for a moment.

"I-" Then, his phone buzzed, and his eyes lit up, "Hold on!" He parked the car beside a random curb and checked his phone, "Yes..." He murmured, then gazed at me, and held the top of the steering wheel with his right hand, while putting away his phone with the left.

"Angel face, your surprise is ready." I eyed my boyfriend, curiously.

"Can't you just tell me already?" He chuckled and shook his head.

"No! I can't ruin it!" He then began driving once again, "Oh, here..." He handed me a red bandanna.

"Seriously? A blindfold?" I asked.

"Yeah! It makes it more fun!" I scoffed and shook my head disapprovingly, but put it on anyways.

"Wow, I can't see anything..." I spoke sarcastically. He chuckled.

"Don't worry, you won't have to wear it for very long."

"Alright..." I sighed, "You're not gonna make me spin in circles and hand me a bat, are you?" He laughed loud.

"Yeah, and you're gonna have to pin the tail on the donkey too." He joked.

"Right..." I laughed, "But seriously, is the blindfold really necessary?"

"Yeah, you'll die if you take it off." He spoke without even thinking.

"Not if I kill you first." He just chuckled.

"Oh angel face, you couldn't kill me. You love me too much."

"Damn, you got me there..." He chuckled, "You're not gonna murder me if I take this off though, are you?"

"Well no, I couldn't, but it makes it more fun!" I then felt the car pull to a stop and heard Gerard put the car in park, "And we're here, anyways."

Since my vision was temporarily impaired, I felt around for the handle to open the car door. Before I could grab it, Gerard's door opened and closed. The sound of his shoes hitting pavement carried over to my side of the car as he opened the door. I focused in on his breathing to keep myself aware as to where he was.

"C'mon, angel face..." I held a hand out, feeling the skin on his face. He chuckled before taking it. As I stood up, the ground felt all too familiar. There really was no need for the blindfold, but I kept it on for him.

He shut the door behind me and helped me to the front door. Gerard rubbed his thumb against my hand for only a moment. I could feel his eyes on me, I could feel his warm smile, and his joyfulness. He hesitated, opening the front door.

"Babe?" I asked in his direction, "You okay?"

"Yeah..." But I knew that wasn't true. Something was on his mind. I figured I'd ask later as he finally opened the door.

"Alright babe, take off the blindfold." I did as told, and only found the Way's living room. The lights were turned out and, as far as I could tell, no one else was there.

"Wow, it's your house..." I sarcastically commented. Before he could reply, the lights switched on and people jumped out from behind couches and behind curtains.

"Surprise!" They all cried. At the sight of this, I smiled wide.

"Holy shit, hi guys..." I laughed.

"Did we scare you!?" Frank asked.

"Nah, I saw it coming from a mile away."

"What!?" Punk boy cried, "Damn..." Everyone then proceeded to do normal high school party things. There was alcohol, smoking, dancing etc.

"Y'know, punk boy," I began as we stood together against a wall in the living room, "This is probably one of the best things you've done for me yet. Kinda reminds me of something you'd do when we first met."

"Really, you think so?" I nodded, "Oh, well, it was kinda, Ryan's idea..."

"Ryan!?" I asked, "Really!?"

"Yeah..." He said.

"Oh, well where is he? I wanna thank him."

"I dunno..." Gerard spoke, in a somewhat jealous tone.

"I'll be back in a minute." I kissed Gerard's cheek before walking away.

"Hey! Y/n!" I turned to see Hayley, "This is a pretty sick going away party. I'm gonna miss you so much."

"Imma miss you too. Have you seen Ryan anywhere?" I asked.

"Uhm, I think he went out front."

"Alright, thanks." Quietly, I moved through the crowd of people until I got to the front door. I peered out the side window to find Ryan sitting with his back to me on the porch steps. Pete stood in front of him, talking.

Slowly, I opened the front door. Their heads immediately moved towards me. Pete smirked.

"I'll go inside." Pete spoke, walking up the porch steps. He patted Ryan's shoulder as he passed, and only sent me a simple glance before he disappeared into the sea of people.

"Hey..." I said, sitting next to him.

"Hey," He spoke to the ground, "Wassup?"

"I just wanted to thank you." He finally met my gaze with confused eyes.

"For what?"

"The party, Gerard said it was all your idea." He sent a sheepish smile to the ground while he rubbed the back of his neck.

"Ah, well, it wasn't entirely my idea. Gerard helped." His gaze went to me, and then back to the ground.

"Either way, thank you."

"It's nothing..." We sat there in a short silence that was too short to call awkward or comfortable.

"Y/n?" He asked. I hummed, our eyes met for only a second, then looked around nervously, and sighed.

"I uhm," He took a deep breath, then kept his focus on me, "I just wanna say, I'm gonna miss you so damn much," He spoke so fast it took me a moment to realize what he had said, "You make my days so much more enjoyable."

"Aww, Ryan..." I smiled. His eyes fell back to the ground.

"But also, I..." His eyes went back to me, "I hope one day our paths meet again. Wether it be just for a few days or even longer. I'll always keep you in my mind next to the entire Beatles discography. As long as you keep me next to the greatest parties known to man." And I hugged him, tight.

"Oh Ryan, you're such a poet." I giggled into his shoulder.

"Thank you, I try." He chuckled. I pulled away, smiling.

"When I see you again, you're gonna be the most famous poet that ever lived!" I declared.

"Yeah, I dunno about that. I gotta beat out Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson."

"Which you can do!" He chuckled.

"Sure, only if you become the greatest artist of all time."

"Well I'm no Andy Warhol, but I could sure as hell try," We both broke out into laughter, "I'm gonna miss this."

"Me too..." The door opened and we both turned our heads. Gerard stood there, gazing down at us.

"Hey punk boy." I spoke.

"Hey-" He immediately began to shiver, "Fuck, it's cold out here." I hadn't even noticed the cold until he said something. It appeared as if it had been the same for Ryan.

"Right, let's go back inside." I said.

"Yeah, Pete's probably lookin' for me," Ryan spoke, standing up, then turned to me with a sad smile, as if he knew it would be the last time we'd see each other for a long time, "Don't you forget about me..."

And as he began walking through the front door he proceeded to punch the air in an upward motion as if to mimic the Breakfast Club. A movie we had discussed days before. I laughed at how cheesy that had been before he disappeared into the house.

Now, Gerard sat down beside me. He took my hand, and gazed up at the stars.

"Aren't you still cold?"

"Nah, I'll be fine." As I gazed up, the faint smell of smoke from nicotine sticks littered the night air. I rested my head against Gerard's shoulder. He kissed my head.

"It's actually, kinda nice out here." We sat in a sweet silence as we stared at the stimulating stars.

"They're so bright tonight..." I spoke.

"They're beautiful," Was all he said. After a few moments of silence, I felt his head move to gaze down at me, "Angel face?" I hummed, "I love you."

"I love you too..." He kissed my cheek. I then kissed his. Then hugged him. Lovingly, I buried my face into the crook of his neck. He held onto me tight, never wanting to let go. I didn't want to let go either. We sat there for a good three minutes before I spoke up.

"Gerard?"

"Yeah?"

"I've changed my mind..."

"Changed your mind?" He asked, confused, "About what?" I shut my eyes as if the next words would be painful.

"Run away with me tomorrow."

"Oh angel face," I could hear the joy in his voice, "You can run away with me anytime you want. Why don't we go right now?" Now my eyes only stayed shut out of drowsiness. I pulled away from him and just rested my head on his shoulder.

"Now?" I spoke, somewhat tiredly, "But, what about the party?"

"Pumpkin, this is your going away party. It'd only make sense to leave in the middle of it." I softly chuckled at his explanation.

"Alright, where are we going?" My voice became more hushed as the conversation went on.

"I'm going wherever you're going."

"I dunno then. Let's just, drive," I spoke, "Until we reach somewhere nice. I need to go home and pack some clothes and things." I opened my tired eyes.

"I will too..." We just stayed there, staring at the stars, never wanting to forget that particular moment. I took in his warmth and the dark silhouettes of cars parked up and down the drive.

There was a little tug in my brain at that moment. It told me to stay there, in that moment. Telling me I shouldn't run away, and that I'd eventually be content again in another town. But I knew full well that wasn't true. As much as I wanted it to be.

"Angel face," He whispered into the cold winter air.

"Punk boy?"

"Let's go." I took in one last look of the scenery before us.

"Okay," I pulled away from him and stood up. He did the same.

"We can't tell anyone. If anyone asks why we're in the basement or whatever, tell them we're making out," I spoke, "And when we leave, just say that I was getting tired." Gerard nodded.

He took my hand, and without a word, led me inside through the crowd of people and down the stairs into the basement. It was still spotless from the night before.

"What do I need?" He asked, grabbing a backpack bigger than the one he brought to school.

"Clothes, bathroom stuff, uhm, sentimental items..." I spoke. He just nodded along, grabbing things from his closet and drawers. As he stepped away to grab things from the bathroom, I heard the door open. Footsteps followed.

"Gerard?" I heard Mikey ask. When he made it down the stairs, he spotted me, "Where's Gerard?"

"Bathroom."

"What're you doing down here?"

"Making out."

"Eww..." He then spotted the bag on Gerard's bed, "Why's that out?" Fuck...

"No reason..." I said. He didn't buy that. Gerard then walked out of the bathroom and spotted his little brother.

"Gerard, what's going on!? Why's that out!?" He pointed to the bag, scared.

"Me and Y/n were making out."

"But why do you need the bag!? And the clothes!? And the bathroom stuff!? What's going on!?" And without a beat Gerard spoke up.

"It's for uh... sex stuff..." Mikey looked Gerard dead in the eyes, knowing full well that was a lie.

"Gerard..." Mikey spoke.

"Fine, you caught us! Y/n and I are running away together." And in an instant, Mikey's face went pale and his eyes grew wide.

"What...?" He spoke softly, on the verge of tears. Gerard sighed, set his things in the bag, and held a hand to his younger brothers shoulder.

"I'm sorry buddy. But I gotta go."

"No! You can't! What about mom and dad!? What about the guys!? What about me!?" From this reaction I suddenly felt guilty. Mikey... I'm so sorry...

"Mom and dad will be fine. The guys will be fine. You will be fine."

"Will I!?"

"Yes."

"Why are you doing this?"

"Mikey, you'll understand when you're older."

"Don't do that! Don't fucking do that! I'm not five anymore, just tell me what's up!" He cried, furiously.

"Okay, I'm in love," He said, "When you're in love, truly in love, you do crazy things to keep it going. I have to do this. You know how much she makes me happy."

Mikey stared at his brother with tears in his eyes, and then clung to him as if he were five years old again.

"Will you come back!? Will I see you again!?" He asked.

"Yeah, I'll see ya again Mikes." Then Mikey pulled away, wiping his tears with his fingers. He pulled off his glasses and cleaned the tears with the end of his t-shirt.

"But, since I'm leaving," Gerard began, Mikey kept his eyes on his brother, "I'm gonna need someone to lead the guys. That leader, is now you."

"What?" Mikey asked in disbelief. Then, he smiled, "I'm leader!?" Gerard nodded, "Oh my god! We won't be doing such stupid stuff anymore!" Gerard sent his brother a glare. They both began laughing.

Gerard walked away, pulling together things for his bag once again.

"Y/n?" Mikey asked. I hummed, "You really are in love with my brother, aren't you?"

"Oh yeah," I smiled down at the ground, "He's everything to me."

"I hope it works out for you two."

"Thanks Mikey," He nodded, "Hey, now you won't accidentally walk in on us making out." He laughed.

"Aw fuck yeah..." We both laughed. Gerard came over to me with his bag all packed.

"I think I got everything," He then gazed at Mikey with a sad smile, "See ya later, Mikes." He then messed up Mikey's hair. I smiled at the scene.

"You don't have to do that." Mikey spoke, now fixing his hair.

"Well I want to. Bye little brother, keep the house safe, I love you."

"I love you too, Gee." Gerard then stepped away from his little brother, and closer to me.

"Can you help us sneak outta here?" I asked.

"Yeah, I can distract everyone." Mikey suggested.

"Cool, let's go." Mikey went up before us, Gerard and I followed behind, waiting for something to happen.

"Hey guys! Look what I got!" Mikey began showing off his video camera. Somehow, that actually distracted everyone.

Quickly, Gerard and I snuck through the front door, and out to his car. He threw his bag into the back seat before starting the car.

"My parents are sleeping, we'll need to be insanely quiet." I spoke, buckling my seatbelt.

"Okay, I'll wait for you in the car, don't take too long."

"I won't..." He then began smiling as he drove.

"What?" I asked, curiously.

"I can't believe we're actually doing this," He happily spoke, "I thought we'd never see each other again or something."

"Aww..." I kissed his cheek as he slowly pulled up into the driveway as to make as little sound as possible, "I'll be back." Quickly, but quietly, I climbed out of the car, and went to the front door.

I went into the house, immediately going into my bedroom. I gazed at the plain walls I wouldn't miss at all. The tan carpet beneath my feet would forget me by tomorrow. My single window probably didn't even know I was here in the first place.

Then, I grabbed my black duffel bag from my closet, and began shoving clothes inside. Should I leave my parents a note? Do they deserve a note?

But as I was grabbing clothes, I came back across my father's letters. A fiery rage ran through me as I held those. No... no letter...

I put my father's letters in the bag, while grabbing one more band tee before heading into the bathroom. I grabbed things like my toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, and toiletries.

As I did so I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, and stopped for a moment.

Is this really what I want? I want Gerard... this is what I want... even if it's... insane... but... rationally, is this really worth it? No time to think rationally! I must go! I can't stay in this house! I'm not going to California unless it's with Gerard!

"This is what I want..." I whispered to myself, and then smiled, "No more parents to decide for me. I go where I want." I kept smiling as I left the bathroom and went back into my room. I grabbed my backpack and quietly dumped everything out of it.

With my duffel bag around me and my backpack in one of my hands, I dumped the entire contents of the snack drawer into the backpack. Alright...

For one last look, I went into my room. Yeah... it's probably best I don't take all of Gerard's gifts... we wouldn't have any room... especially for that dog...

As I stood there, my smile never faded. I grabbed a random blanket from my closet and finally, left my room. I didn't even gaze at my parent's room across the hall as I walked out of the house. Gerard sat in the car, waiting for me. I ran to him, throwing open the car door, and chucking my stuff into the backseat. I sat in the passenger seat, and pulled Gerard in for a rough kiss.

He was taken by so much surprise, he didn't even kiss back. I pulled away, keeping my smile. He just laughed, and kissed me with his hands on my cheeks.

"I think I know where we could go..."

"Where?" I grabbed my duffel bag and shuffled through until I found one of my dad's letters.

"New York city. My dad's address is on these, so it won't be hard to find him. It's not too far from here, either."

"You wanna go to New York?" I nodded, "Alright, guess we're going to New York." He leaned over and kissed me again.

Then, he pulled away and backed out of the driveway. He began driving down the street, away from the house. I kept a smile on my face as we drove.

But then, something caught Gerard's eye in the rear view mirror.

"Hey, is that Frank behind us?" He asked. I turned around in my seat to see Frank's car filled with all our friends.

"Fuck, Mikey totally told."

"Damnit!" He pulled up to a random curb, Frank parked behind him. They all exited Frank's trashy little car and ran over to us. We rolled down the windows to see what they wanted.

"What the fuck!?" Frank cried.

"I told you not to tell, Mikey..." Gerard said.

"I know, but they started asking questions! I didn't know what to say!"

"How could you do this!? Without even saying goodbye!?" Hayley asked, standing beside my window.

"Wait, you just wanna say goodbye?" She nodded. I opened the car door and got out. She immediately hugged me.

"Y/n, you scared me half to death. Mikey made it sound like you guys had died or something." I just giggled.

"Well, I'm fine." I pulled away. Gerard was on the other side of the car, talking to the boys.

"I'm happy you're doing this instead of being dragged to California. I'm gonna miss ya though." She said.

"Yeah, I'll miss you too." We then joined the boys, standing around with Gerard.

"...yeah, Mikey's the new leader. Stop complaining Frank, it'll be fine." Gerard spoke.

"So you guys are really leaving then?" Ray asked. Gerard put an arm around me and nodded.

"Yeah..."

"Damn," Frank spoke, saddened. Gerard then pulled away to speak with Mikey.

"I've had a lot of fun with you guys," I said, "I'll miss that."

"Yeah, me too." Frank said.

"Same here." Said Ray. Gerard came back over with light tears in his eyes.

"We should go." He said, trying to hold them back.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm just... I'm just thinking about Mikey." I nodded.

"Alright, we'll see you guys again one day." I said. Frank then rested his hand on my shoulder.

"Godspeed, angel face." I smiled.

"Right back at ya Frankie." He pulled his hand away.

"Goodbye guys..." Ray said. Hayley hugged me one more time.

"I'm gonna miss you so damn much..." She whispered.

"I know..." I pulled away and smiled through my own tears. She did the same, "It'll be okay."

"Okay..." She wiped away her tears.

"Y/n," Mikey began, "Make sure Gerard doesn't do anything stupid and get himself killed or something." Everyone laughed. Gerard got in the car.

"I'll do my best. See ya guys." I waved, walking around the car to my side. I gazed at my friends one last time before Gerard began driving.

But then, I stuck my head out the window, towards my friends.

"Goodbye New Jersey!" I yelled. They all cheered, "And Rest In Peace castle Grayskull!" Everyone laughed, and I sat normally in the seat. Gerard was laughing as well. I leaned back in my seat, taking in the last moments in New Jersey. Goodbye New Jersey... goodbye friends... goodbye parents... hello to my new life...
