Christmas Dinner at the Way Household

Tyler and I now stepped towards the door of the Way household. I wore a red and black striped sweater that fell past my knees and held rips from being worn so much. Along with that I also wore long black leggings and a pair of black combat boots that made me just an inch taller.

For Tyler, he wore a baby blue collared shirt and white dress pants that fit the "goody two shoes" label well. As I knocked on the door, little snowflakes began to fall from the dark grey skies. The door opened and we were immediately met with punk boy. He held a little smile on his face.

"Angel face!" He beamed, "Come in, come in..." We did as told. His house... I haven't been here since the snowball...

"Thanks for inviting us." Tyler said, Gerard sent a look.

"Uh, yeah, it was nothing..." Tyler walked away into the living room, "Why's he here?"

"You invited him, remember?"

"Did I? I'm sure I just said you could bring him to be nice..." I sent a look, "What? He's mean to me!"

"Babe, he's not gonna do anything. It's Christmas! And besides, I made him promise not to."

"Alright..." I took Gerard's hand and smiled.

"C'mon, let's get outta the entryway." I lightly tugged on his hand.

"But I just wanna stand here all night!" He cried with a silly smirk.

"Too bad," I tugged on his fingers once again. He finally began to follow me.

We wandered into the living room where tons of Christmas decorations cluttered the walls and ceilings. There was a huge Christmas tree that almost touched the ceiling. Many adults sat around on couches or stood speaking to each other in nice attire. I could only assume they were relatives of Gerard's. Almost immediately, I got nervous.

So many people here... so many relatives... their eyes silently judge me... what would they say about me? Good things? With this wannabe Kurt Cobain look going on... I definitely don't look like a "good" kid... haha...

"Mom! Dad!" Gerard dragged me behind him. Oh shit... his parents... I didn't prepare for this...

"I'd like to introduce you to my girlfriend, Y/n." He motioned towards me. I held up a hand and waved it slightly.

"Hi, it's nice to meet you." I spoke in that super sweet tone only used for sucking up, or when talking to your boyfriend's parents for the first time.

"Oh, it's nice to meet you too," His mother said, "Gerard is always talking about you."

"Really...?" I eyed Gerard.

"Yeah, you're all he talks about," His father said, "It's a nice change from hearing his adventures in video games." They laughed, I just smiled.

"Uh, Y/n and I are gonna head downstairs now."

"It was nice meeting you." I said.

"Same here..." Gerard and I then broke away. He led me out of the living room.

"They seem nice," I said, "Why'd you pull us away so fast?"

"When it comes to having relatives over here you gotta get outta the mix quick. If we hadn't broken away right then, we'd have to sit through all my relatives sob stories." I giggled.

I've only ever had Christmas with my mom and dad... if I'm lucky I get to see a grandparent... but that's only if we're close enough...

"Alright..." He led me through the kitchen. Plates upon plates and dishes of food laid out on the counters. There wasn't an inch of exposed counter in sight.

"Woah..." I spoke, eying the food. Gerard hummed.

"That's how it always is. Everyone brings something so the counters are covered with food." I hummed.

"C'mon, I'm sure everyone is waiting for us."

"Right..."

He pulled me away and towards a door just beside the end of the counter wrapped around the kitchen wall. As soon as the door was open, the sound of laughter and happy talking could be heard. Gerard and I stepped down the stairs. Our friends all sat on the couch or old arm chairs around it.

"Sup guys," I greeted.

"Where've you two been?" A girl I hadn't met before asked. She had wavy dyed purple pastel hair that fell just past her chin. Her eyes were a dark brown which matched that of her nicely done eyebrows.

"I was introducing my girlfriend to my parents," He motioned towards me, "Y/n, this is my cousin, Michelle, Michelle, this is my girlfriend, Y/n."

"Hi," I smiled, before taking a seat on the couch beside Gerard and Tyler.

"Hi..." Now that I was sat down, I was able to see what she wore.

She's got a good amount of make up on... purple that matches her hair... a black dress that's more casual... but... it's like she's trying... but not too hard... who are you trying to impress at a family gathering? Weird...

"Y/n, is uh, is Hayley gonna be here?" Frank asked.

"Um, I dunno..." I said, trying to think if she said anything about tonight, "She didn't really say anything about it."

"Oh... okay..." He looked to the hardwood floor. Just then, we all heard the door open. Everyone's head turned.

"Didn't think ya'd see me tonight, did ya?"

"Hayley!" I cheered. She came over with a smile across her face, "Sorry if I'm late, I was being held up by my grandmother calling my music satanic." I scooted over so she sat between Tyler and I.

"Well, I'm glad you could make it." I smiled.

"Who's this?" Hayley asked, referring to Michelle, "Tryna replace me?" She smirked.

"Nah, this is my cousin, Michelle."

"Ah, well I'm Hayley."

"Cool..." Michelle said, "It's nice to meet you." She spoke so politely, just as I did upstairs. There's no need for the fake politeness... we're chill here...

"Yeah..." The room went quiet for a moment. I wrapped my hands around Gerard's arm and leaned into him.

"So, how'd you two meet?" Michelle asked us.

"Oh it's uh..." Gerard began, scratching the back of his head, "It's a long story..."

"Really?" She asked.

"Yeah..." I spoke.

"Nah it ain't," Frank began, "They met at school. So, basically, Gerard bursts through the door of first period, late. He sees Y/n sittin' there in his seat and he's all like, 'wow she's hot.' Then he's all like, 'hey angel face! That's my seat!' And then, he calls her angel face a ton, he's a huge jerk to her," He pointed to himself, "Thanks to me. Then, this is also because of me, I dump punch on her at the snowball, she runs into the bathroom, Gerard comforts her, and now they're dating!"

"Wow..." Said Michelle, with wide eyes on the rug between the couch and various arm chairs.

"By the way, I told him not to do that. I told him to tell her how he felt!" Mikey cried, Gerard tensed a little.

"I told him to eat a crayon..." Ray said.

"He did do that though," Frank said, "And also shoved me into her locker, pushed her around, called her names, hit her with dodgeballs, spitballs, and was straight up annoying."

"Frank, you can stop." Gerard said, but Frank didn't take any notice.

"Oh, and he shoved a firecracker into her locker! It's actually really fuckin' weird that she wanted to go out with him after it all."

"Frank! Shut up!" Gerard cried. Everyone had their eyes on him, and he realized what he'd done, "I'm sorry."

Gerard then got up and stepped away from everyone. I followed him to the other side of the room where his bed sat.

"Punk boy..." I spoke as he sat on his bed with me close behind, "You okay?"

"Yeah, I just..." I rested my hand over his, "The way Frank was talking about us. It made me feel, weird."

"Weird?" He nodded.

"It just felt weird how he dissected our relationship like that. Angel face, are..." He hesitated, "...are you, happy with me?" I laughed, but then realized, he wasn't joking.

"Oh, uhm, yeah, I'm really happy with you. I've never been this happy before."

"Good..."

"Are you happy?" I asked. He nodded.

"Of course I am! I'm dating miss angel face! How could I not be!?"

"Good..." I smiled, he brought his lips to mine for just a second. Then the sound of the basement door opening rang through the room.

"Children! Dinner!" Gerard's mom cried down the stairs.

"Sick, c'mon angel face, I wanna sit next to ya."

"Alright, punk boy." He tugged on my hand as we walked upstairs behind the rest of the group. Our group now stood around the dinning room while all the adults did as well.

"Okay, children at that end, adults over here!" We did as told, punk boy sat beside me while Hayley sat on my other side. Tyler sat beside Hayley, Michelle was at the head, then Mikey, Frank, Ray, and an adult that was left to the end.

"So, Hayley," Frank began, "Uhm, you look really nice." She sighed.

"Thanks..." Everyone then began eating, and talking, and laughing. It was to the point where the adults were slightly annoyed, but we didn't take much notice.

"And then! And then he fuckin' he fuckin' socked the guy in the nose! He's insane when it comes to fuckin' people up." Frank explained, retelling what had happened between Gerard and Brendon just days ago.

"Frank," He turned as an adult spoke his name, "Please stop cursing."

"Oh, sorry..." But Frank just rolled his eyes as he turned back to us.

"Uhm, Michelle, are you from around here?" Hayley asked, trying to change the subject.

"No, I'm from Canada." Hayley hummed.

"Is it nice there?"

"Yes, I like it very much," Michelle then turned to an adult I didn't know, "May I be excused?" The adult nodded, and she left. She's so polite... and clean cut... the purple hair does not complement that at all...

"She's nice." Hayley said.

"Eh, she's okay. Ya shoulda been here when my uncle Dave was here," Gerard said, "He's so cool."

"Yeah, he's gotta motorcycle, and listens to punk music. He wears a leather jacket and doesn't give a fuck about anything."

"Mikey!"

"Sorry mom..."

"But he usually only stops by for a bit. He doesn't like being around the other adults. Says it ruins his vibe." So that's where Gerard got his whole look from... makes sense now...

"He sounds really cool."

"He is," Gerard said, "C'mon, let's go back downstairs." Everyone stood up and began walking. Tyler pulled me towards the back, wanting to talk.

"What's going on?"

"Michelle tried to get me to leave the dinner table with her." His eyes were wide and scared.

"Really? Huh," I said, "What'd you say?"

"No," The others had left us as we stood outside the basement door, "I feel weird." He seemed so anxious.

"Oh, you wanna go? We can go back to my house."

"Please...?" I smiled.

"Alright..." Just then, the basement door opened.

"There ya are, angel face, c'mon..."

"Gerard, we gotta go. My parents don't want us out too late."

"Too late? It's seven thirty..."

"Really? Uhm, well, we still gotta go..." I hugged him, and kissed his cheek, "I'll tell ya later." I spoke. He nodded.

"Mkay, see ya later babe."

"See ya," He kissed my cheek before leaving us be, "C'mon, let's go." Tyler nodded.

"Uhm, Y/n?" He asked, climbing into the driver seat of my parents car, I sat in the passenger seat.

"Yeah?" He started the car and drove off.

"Could I tell you something?"

"Of course..."

"So, uh, y'know last night? When you said we could talk later?" I nodded, "Well, uhm, something happened."

"What happened?" He hesitated.

"Josh messaged me."

"Okay..."

"No! I mean, he sent me a message."

"What?"

"Oh my god he asked me out!" He cried, we both went silent. Really? Josh? Hm... was not expecting that...

"So uh, what'd you say?"

"I haven't responded yet." I hummed.

"Tyler, no matter what you say to him, I'll support you. I've got ya back." He pulled up to the house, but turned to me before climbing out.

"Thank you," He smiled.

"Of course..." We then got out of the car, and walked inside. My parents were sat at the dinning room table, talking. I didn't take much notice to this and just went to my room. Tiredly, I flopped onto my bed. Shit... I gotta pee...

Sighing, I got up and went into the bathroom. I did my business, and washed my hands, when I over heard my parents talking.

"...I dunno if we should, she's got such good friends here." My dad said.

"She knows we're not staying here forever. This is-" They turned their heads at the sound of the bathroom door open. My eyes were on them.

"Are we moving?" I asked, scared. I've been having so much fun... the thought of moving completely left my mind...

"Maybe, we aren't sure yet." My dad said. That always means it's gonna happen...

"We really don't know yet, so don't go telling people. It's not official." My eyes were on the floor. Maybe we'll be close... maybe I'll still be able to see him...

"Where will we be going?" I asked.

"California," My mom said. My head shot up.

"California!? But, that's so far!"

"I know, that's why we're still talking about it." She said. I took a step back.

"Y/n..." He tried, but I went to my room. I fell into my bed and buried my face in my pillow. We can't move! Not that far! Oh punk boy... no... I can't leave you... punk boy... and my friends...

There was a quiet knock on my door. Assuming it was my parents, I was not wanting to talk.

"Go away!" I cried.

"It's me..." Tyler stepped inside, "I heard what's going on," He sat at the end of my bed, "Y/n, I'm so sorry."

"Why're you sorry? You don't even like Gerard, or Mikey, or Frank, or Ray, or Hayley..."

"It doesn't matter what I think about them. They make you happy." I turned to him.

"Are you okay?" He sent a strange look and nodded, "Dude, you're serious?" He nodded once more, "You just... I wasn't expecting that. You're always so hateful towards them. Wanting me to stop hanging out with them and all."

"Not anymore," I now realized he had a strange little smile on his face.

"Did something happen?" He nodded.

"Uhm, I told Josh yes."

"Aww! I'm so happy for you!" I cried, then hugged my friend.

But almost immediately, a sadness took over me. The thought of really leaving Gerard, my friends, and all the other people I had come to know, hurt. It hurt bad. I pulled away from my friend, and just stared at the floor.

I should've known it was gonna happen... it always does... this time is different... I've never felt genuinely sad about leaving a place... although... no one's ever made my stay worth while...
