CHAPTERELEVEN_RELIGIOUS BELIEFS

September 26, 2032

It’s now Saturday. Matt has been getting ready for his first date with his girlfriend, Kimmy. He was in his room, making sure he looked good enough for her. He kept having a nagging feeling that she wasn’t a normal girl, but he kept pushing it away. He even felt a bad feeling in his stomach.

Then he grabbed his car keys, and went downstairs. He saw his parents in the kitchen with his younger sister and brother. They were doing a kid-friendly Bible study. He never told them that he has a girlfriend, and he never told them that some of his friends seemed strange. Yes, he even noticed that some of his friends seemed…off. But he always shook off the weird feeling.

Soon, he slipped out of the house without telling his family he was going out in the evening. He got in his car, and drove off. He thought a lot about of things.

For one, his parents believe that Gen-Mods truly exist. They considered the Gen-Mods as abominations that humans created just so they can become their own version of God. But Matt didn’t believe the super-humans actually exist. They only existed as super heroes and monsters in the media and in print. Yet, he couldn’t help but struggle to shake off that belief. He grew up believing they’re abominations.

Then there’s a couple of his friends. For as long as he could remember, they came across as strange. Matt was very observant, so sometimes he would voluntarily take himself out of conversations just to watch how they really act.

He noticed their perfect looks. They looked too beautiful to be teenagers. He always found it odd that they would wear glasses, and if they played sports, they put on contacts. None of that made sense to him.

He saw how they seemed very…clingy towards their partners. Like they needed them for life support. He saw how loving they were, but to Matt, watching his beautiful friends get extremely close to their partners suffocated him. But one thing he did notice was that whenever he mentioned his parents’ beliefs, his strange friends would act defensively. It was like they believed that Gen-Mods actually existed. Even one of his strange friends was a Christian, and he felt the need to defend the Gen-Mods.

Then there’s Kimmy. She reminded him of his strange friends. She was too beautiful for her own good, wore glasses, and is very attached to Matt. At first he was okay with this, but the more he observed, the more he realized he’s now the partner that won’t get any breathing room, even though she’ll be very loving towards him.

Before he knew it, he arrived at her house. He walked up to the door, and knocked on it. It was soon opened, and Kimmy was standing there in her bright pink dress with a red spiked-shoulder leather jacket. She gave him a huge grin, revealing her perfectly perfect teeth.

Matt gave a smile as he asked, “Ready for our date?”

Kimmy squealed, “Of course! So where are we going?”

“We’re going to a restaurant. Don’t worry, it’s low-key, and no reservations were required.”

 “I’m already loving this place!”

Then she gave him a tight hug. Matt hugged back, but struggled not to cough. Then she pulled away. She searched his face as she saw his smile didn’t reach his eyes. She asked him, “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m fine. Why?” he replied.

She answered with a smile, “No reason.”

It’s now two hours later. They walked around the area near the restaurant. They got to know each other, though Kimmy came across as “mysterious.” She may have revealed some things about her and her life, but Matt felt like she was hiding something.

So he asked, “Why don’t we go over to your house? Don’t worry. I’m not gonna sleep with you.”

Kimmy blushed at his suggestion. She looked away, and asked, “Are you sure that’s a good idea?”

“Yeah, I guess. I mean, it sounds bad, but yeah.”

Kimmy looked at him. Matt just noticed that she was almost the same height as he was. He then remembered how some of his strange guy friends were slightly taller than most of the guys in school. Even the strange girls were taller than most of the girls. In fact, they were the same height as normal guys.

Kimmy noticed he looked lost in thought, so she asked him, “Matt? Are you okay?”

Matt blinked, and said, “Yeah, I’m good. So…your place?”

“I guess. My parents are out for the night, and my little brother and sister are being baby sat at home. Why not?”

Matt smiled. He was determined to know what Kimmy was hiding. They soon arrived back at her house. They went inside, and went to her room. She closed the door as she heard her younger siblings playing loudly with the babysitter.

Matt then sat on her bed, and asked, “So…what do your parents do for a living?”

Kimmy looked at him uneasily. She told him with hesitation, “They’re…scientists.”

He was impressed by this as he said, “Really? That’s really cool.”

She bit her lip as she looked away, “I guess so.”

“So what do they do as scientists?”

Kimmy turned so her back would face him. She told him as she took off her glasses, “You don’t want to know what they do.”

“Really? Why? Are they mad scientists?”

 “Something like that.”

Matt laughed nervously as he asked, “So how bad can it be? Are they experimenting on humans? Animals?”

Kimmy bit her lip. She realized now he was trying discover her secrets. She told him, “It’s…unethical what my parents and their teams of scientists all over the world are doing. No one knows their experiments exist. If the world finds out, then everyone would call them monsters. Because that’s what they are…monsters. They look like humans. They have their humanity…yet…the things they do are not human. They’re animalistic.”

Matt breathed slowly as he asked, “What…what’s going on, Kimmy? You’re kind of scaring me.”

Kimmy took a deep breath, and turned to face him. The glasses were in her hand. She placed them on a dresser as she walked slowly up to him. Her blue eyes looked a lot more vivid without the glasses.

Matt watched her cautiously. She sat down next to him. Then she told him, “I am one of those ‘experiments.’ I’m a Genetically-Modified Human…a Gen-Mod. And you…you’re my mate.”

Suddenly, Matt’s breaths became shorten. He stared at her with fear. Then he saw her blue eyes being covered completely by her pupils. Kimmy saw the fear in his eyes. She told him, “I’m a monster, Matthew. I’m practically a werewolf without the shifting and having a pack. I don’t even have this so-called ‘Alpha Trait.’ Some of your friends are Gen-Mods too.”

Matt stammered as he got off her bed, “No…no, you can’t be! Gen-Mods aren’t real! You’re can’t be an abomination! You’re…no!”

Kimmy stared at his neck as she told him hoarsely, “Trust me, I wish I wasn’t this monster. But I am, and…you’re mine.”

With that, she pounced on Matt with her superhuman strengths, and bit his neck hard. She made a tear, and soon pulled away. She licked the bite. She then looked at him with a satisfied smirk, but soon it changed into a frown.

Matt put his hand on where she bit him. He looked at her with fear and confusion. He got up onto his feet, and walked over to a mirror. He saw the tattoo-like mark, which consisted the seal of the Agency, and her name, Kimberly D. Stone, underneath it.

He whispered, “What did you do to me?”

Kimmy looked down as she replied, “I…I marked you. I told you that I’m a monster. But…please don’t reject me. I need you, or else I’ll die.”

That made Matt’s head spin more. He just found out that Gen-Mods actually existed. The kind his parents believed to be the worst of man-made “creations.” Now his girlfriend is one of them.

He turned to face her, and said, “You cannot be this thing! You’re one of the abominations that my parents hate! I bet you consider your parents as your gods!”

That angered Kimmy, but she took a deep breath to calm herself down. She told him sternly, “Matthew, there are Gen-Mods who practice religion, like Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. They don’t consider the scientists as their ‘gods.’ They lived a normal life, and after they found out what they are, they continued living their lives as normal as possible. They’re still humans, but…I don’t know. I’m so conflicted with this thing.”

Matt shook his head, and said, “I…I need to process this. You’re still my girlfriend, and I’m not rejecting you. I just…I need some time to process this.”

Kimmy nodded her head sadly, and watched him walk out of her room. With that, she began to cry. As for Matt, he drove home.
