23 - Why Isn't Destiel Together Yet?

One month later... :O

I just realized. 23 CHAPTERS IN AND DESTIEL ISN'T TOGETHER, WHAT AM I DOING

"Hey Cas, whatcha doing?" Dean said, flopping down on Cas's couch after letting himself into the apartment.

"Shh," Cas said, reading something on his laptop screen. Dean tried to look over Cas's shoulder but Cas turned the screen away from him.

"What, you reading smut or something?" Dean said, smirking. Cas didn't react. "What is it?"

"An email from a book publisher," Cas said. "I sent my book to them after I finished it a few weeks ago."

"Do I ever get to read this mystery book?" Dean asked.

"Eventually," Cas said.

"So what'd they say?" Dean asked.

"They want to publish my book," Cas said.

"Oh dude that's awesome!" Dean said excitedly. Cas just looked a little in shock.

"They actually want to publish my book," he said quietly.

"Of course they do, you're an awesome writer," Dean said. "I mean, have you even read your own heartbreaking books?"

"Dean I wrote them, of course I've read them, it's kind of hard not to read the words as they appear on the screen."

Dean chuckled. "True. But really Cas, you deserve this. You're one of the best writers I know."

"Yeah but...it just seems a bit surreal."

"But it's definitely happening. So go reply to them and sort this out. Coz I want to read that book."

Cas smiled, before looking back to his laptop screen.

Gabriel smiled at Sam who was sleeping beside him. It had been just over a month since the Winchesters + Charlie moved to America, which meant Sam and Gabe had been together for like...four months? Sure, let's say four. There have been a lot of time skips after all.

Anyway. Sam pretty much lived with Gabriel now, most of his clothes had migrated to Gabe's house apartment thing and he stayed there almost every night.

Which didn't explain why Gabriel was so nervous about asking Sam to move in with him.

He had no idea how he was going to do it, and was currently contemplating just throwing the key at Sam when he woke up. It would work.

Gabe sighed and got up from the bed, going to make breakfast. Sam wouldn't be up for at least another hour, he liked to sleep in on days he didn't have classes.

Oh right, Sam had also started college. He'd transferred from his university back in Aus to the one nearby them in America, and was now doing some sort of course in teaching and literature.

Gabe made pancakes for himself, and none for Sam because Sam wasn't going to eat sugar covered pancakes in the morning.

He got dressed and went downstairs to open his shop, sliding over the counter because it looked cool and he could. Business went as usual, lots of teenage kids coming in and buying way too much candy, but hey Gabriel wasn't complaining.

"Morning Gabe," a voice said from behind Gabe and he turned to see Sam standing there, smiling at him.

"Hiya Samantha," Gabe said, smiling brightly. "You had breakfast right?"

"Yep," Sam said, moving to stand beside Gabe at the counter. "Seeing as someone finally stocked their fridge with healthy food."

"Who needs healthy when you have this?" Gabe asked, pulling out a lollipop from nowhere. Sam just laughed.

"You're going to die from too much sugar one day," Sam said, taking the lollipop. Gabe just stared at the lollipop.

"You just took my lollipop," Gabe said, staring as Sam unwrapped it and put it in his mouth.

"Yep," Sam said simply.

"I think I'm rubbing off on you, I just got you to eat sugar," Gabe said. "In the morning. Sam are you feeling okay?"

"I'm great," Sam said, chuckling.

"Oh I must be rubbing off on you," Gabe said. "Although...I could think of better ways to rub on you." Sam almost choked on the lollipop.

A sudden text interrupted them, and Sam pulled out his phone to read the text from Dean. "Dean wants to hang out with me. He's complaining that I spend all my time with you."

"Well you do pretty much live here," Gabe said. "Speaking of..." He pulled out the key, thought to hell with it, and threw it to Sam.

Sam caught it on reflex, then looked at what he was holding. "Okay, there are two ways I could interpret this," he said eventually. "You could just be giving me a key so you stop having to let me in all the time, or you could be asking me to move in with you."

"Well, which one do you want it to be?" Gabe asked.

"The second one," Sam said immediately.

"Good coz that's how I intended it," Gabe said, smiling. "So, do you accept?"

"Obviously," Sam said, before stepping forward to pull Gabe into a kiss. Gabe smiled into the kiss, leaning up on his tip toes. Sam eventually pulled away. "As much as I'd like to continue this, Dean is waiting and won't hesitate to break in if I don't show up."

"Yeah I don't need an angry Deano around here," Gabe said. "See you later roomie."

"I'm your boyfriend, not your roommate," Sam said, smiling as he shoved Gabe.

"I mean, technically aren't you both now?" Gabe said. "Boyfriends are still roommates."

"True," Sam said. "Anyway, I'll see you later babe."

It was only after Sam walked out that Gabe realized Sam had changed one letter in his nickname.

~~

"Hey Dean," Sam said, walking into the coffee shop because that's cliche.

"Heya Sammy," Dean said as Sam sat down across from him. "Takes a lot to get you away from Gabriel these days."

"Well," Sam said. "I do live at his house now."

Dean blinked. "What."

"He just asked me to move in. Literally right after you texted me."

Dean blinked again before saying slowly, "he and I need to talk."

"Dean please don't threaten him or scare him off," Sam said.

"I can't make any promises," Dean said. "Anyway. How's college been?"

"It's fun," Sam said. "Quite different from Australia, but I'll get used to it." Dean nodded. "Hey I heard Cas got a reply from a publisher."

"Yeah and he still won't let me read the book," Dean muttered darkly. Sam smirked. "Wait have you read it?"

"Yep, he sent me a copy to proof read for him."

"No waay can you send it to me?"

"Nope, you'll get to see the final version?"

"But whyy?" Dean whined. "He's my friend not yours, so why do you get to read it?" Sam just kept smirking.

"You'll see why," Sam said. "I think there's something he wants to surprise you with in the printed copy." Dean perked up at this.

"Well that sounds interesting," he said, curious now.

"You know Dean," Sam said. "You should really just ask him out already."

"What?"

"We all know you love him."

"It's one sided."

"You're an idiot. A blind idiot."

(When did this become Song of the Heart?)

"What do you mean?"

Sam just sighed. "You're both idiots."

Dean just glared at his brother.

It was about a week after Cas had gotten a reply from the publisher. It was a publisher who published books fairly quickly for the sake of not needing a several month long time skip. They'd sent Cas a list of things that he needed to add into the book, like an Author's note and all that stuff.

Cas looked at the little dot point for a dedication, already knowing what to write. He hadn't want to put it in the original manuscript because he'd be sending that off to a lot of people, but would put it in now.

For Dean,

Because in the end, I fell for you

It made sense with the context of the ending of the book. The angel fell in love with the human, but people didn't like that. The other angels wanted to kill the human, and the humans didn't trust the angel and wanted to burn him. It was a whole star crossed lovers type thing.

However, in the end, the angel fights off the other angels, and throws himself out of heaven to be with the human. In a sense, he fell for the human.

Although, because this was a book written by Castiel, it had the usual twist. The angel had no memories and couldn't remember his human. The human was heartbroken when he found out what had happened.

Cas could've made the ending worse, but instead he left it on the human sticking by the fallen angels side, and the fallen angel slowly falling in love with the human all over again.

A few days later, because I really did underestimate how tired and exhausted I would be when I came home from camp.

But guyyyys it was literally A Summer Dream, that camp was amazing. Like, it was so amazing and I just want to go baack. Like, there were cabins in a forest and a lake and we could see the whole milky way and IT WAS A SUMMERS DREAM

Anyway xD I'm half tempted to write Castiel's book, maybe as another Destiel story :P

Anyway, I have a bunch of notifications to go through because I've been off for 6 days, wow I feel deprived

*Gives everyone red velvet cake*
