A.N: In English, we had to write an opening chapter to a book in 300 words or less. Initially I had over 400, and that was with my first idea. Now I've rewritten, scrapped, and rewritten again about five different stories, so I'm just using this one. Ignore how OOC they are pls, it's for the sake of headcanons

Claude and Canterbury's names are going to have to be changed once I hand it in ;-; But oh well, it isn't much of a change, really. Anyways, onwards!

He hates you.

I clenched my fists.

Nobody cares.

I felt tears stream down my cheeks.

Nobody ever will.

I climbed up the steps to the rooftop. My legs were shaking. I hated heights. But being up here was better than being down there, where no one wanted me and no one wanted to know me.

He'll never love you, so why are you here?

I stepped closer to the edge. My head was screaming at me to stop. Before I did something I'd regret, or rather, something that someone'd have to regret for me. But my heart was telling me to do it. To jump. To step off of the edge and let everything around me fade away. That no matter how many times I wound myself, it'll never be enough, so I should just die.

And it seemed like my heart was louder. I wanted to die.

I smiled through my tears. I wasn't scared anymore. After all, soon I'd be happy again. Not in pain. Since Claude didn't love me, I'd erase myself from the world.

As I stepped off the edge, everything seemed to be in slow motion. I heard footsteps behind me. I whipped my head around to see-

"Hannah...!"

Canterbury, my childhood friend. He was reaching out to me. Pleading with his eyes for me to take his hand. Sometimes, I didn't want to die. After all, I didn't want him to cry. But it was too late, I'd gone too far, I was already falling. I smiled.

When I awoke, I was surrounded by four white walls. The nurse's office. I could hardly remember half of what'd happened before then, until I looked to my right and saw Canterbury, asleep in the chair. My eyes widened.

He'd... He'd saved me.
